Who is traveling watch M in the Gator Bowl?
Woo! I started a thread last week regarding traveling to the Insight Bowl, but I'm glad that we're not going there. The Gator Bowl works out a lot better considering my family gatherings around Christmas and the fact that it is less expensive to fly to Jacksonville than Arizona. Who's planning on going?
December 5th, 2010 at 7:04 PM ^
Anyone going from Detroit? We should coordinate efforts on finding the cheapest flight. I may or may not be going on my own--most of my friends are "done with this team until things change." Oh well, their loss! I love this team and am so excited to be bowling again.
December 6th, 2010 at 1:20 PM ^
Oh man, my friends are all the same way. Or poor. In the end I don't have anyone to go with and it sucks.
December 6th, 2010 at 3:28 PM ^
If you really want to go, you should still do it! Everything else will work itself out. We should all have an MGoMeetUp in Jacksonville, I'm sure there'll be M fans everywhere.

Are there any websites or Phone Apps that cater to sports fans meeting up on game day?

Hey guys. If any of you are travelling to Jacksonville for the game, please email me ([email protected])
I live here in Jacksonville, and I was born and raised in MI. I'd like to get together & tailgate, hang out. I know the city well. I don't have any Wolverine friends down here, so this is a good chance for me to mingle w/my people.

I will be going. My wife's family lives in Charleston, SC. We will spend Christmas with her side of the family and drive down to Jacksonville. I will be interested in finding out which hotel all of the Michigan fans will be staying in.
I am buying through the Michigan AD so I can sit with the other cool Michigan fans.
Go Blue!!! Beat the Bulldogs!!!

The game is not yet sold out. If the Gators do get in the game will sell out but if it's MSU, you should have time to get seats at face value. Just check ticketmaster.com
December 5th, 2010 at 7:16 PM ^
I live in Venice, FL now...1 hour south of Tampa. Wife and I will be there and then out on the town for New Years..woohoo.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:12 PM ^
I live in Jacksonville and always buy tickets from scalpers for the Jags and Florida/ Georgia games. Prices are always better than from web sites or ticket office. Also it can be fun to sit among rival fans. The people here are generally friendly. Had a great experience at the Outback Bowl several years ago when I sat with Florida fans abd we beat them in Zook's last game.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:25 AM ^
But I don't know...Florida fans have been the biggest asshole opposing fans at any Bowl I've ever been to. They make USC fans look modest.
December 7th, 2010 at 8:49 AM ^
That's what made my walk back to my car after watching the Capital One Bowl so very nice.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:30 PM ^
With MSU being official I think you'll be able to find cheap seats day of the game...
December 5th, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
4 of them. They are in nose bleed but who the heck cares! It's MICHIGAN on New Years Day!!!!! Woo Hoo Let's go Blue!!!!!!!
December 5th, 2010 at 8:51 PM ^
Count me in...I'll be in Florida over New Years and will make the trek to Jacksonville to see the boys end the season with a bang...one way or another.
December 5th, 2010 at 9:14 PM ^
Mississippi State has already sold 19,000 tickets, Mgo_fly. We travel well. We hold the Liberty and held the Peach bowl attendance records.
December 8th, 2010 at 1:26 AM ^
Wasn't meant as a dig against the Bulldog fans, just an observation based on the last two Michigan bowl games vs the Gators here in Florida. I don't think there is any question but that the Gators could have sold more tickets to this bowl than either of us. Keep checking Stubhub as the prices keep going down.
Here's to a good game and your long drive home : )
December 5th, 2010 at 9:24 PM ^
on the assumption we'd get in to face the Gators (meaning it would sell out as soon as announced). Now with MSU tickets will be available. Regardless, this will be the first UM game I've got to see in 3 years. Can't wait.

I just booked my flight from Detroit to Jacksonville--I searched a bunch of sites and the best one came up on Kayak.com for cheaptickets.com. I played around with the dates, and the best price I found was leaving on 12/31 and returning on 1/3 for $265.60 with all taxes and fees on Delta.
December 6th, 2010 at 2:58 AM ^
I spent a while fiddling with the results until i got what I wanted. FWIW I found the best combination of flights/times from NYC is the 8:00AM from JFK that morning, returning at 6:45AM the next morning (ughhhh) on JetBlue. The only other way to get there on time leaving that day is a layover, which I do not trust when my butt needs to be in that stadium an hour before kick off.

on how great the level of enthusiasm is among the faithful.

Seeing as I started here at Michigan in '08, this is my first bowl game a student here. Does the university do anything for students or not?
December 6th, 2010 at 8:38 AM ^
Student season ticket-holders must order online using their student online ticket account. The deadline for seating in the designated student sections is Friday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. If you need assistance ordering online, please email [email protected] and include your name and student identification number. Orders received after Dec. 10 may be assigned seating on a first-come, first-served basis outside of the designated student sections.
Students may pick up their bowl tickets from Thursday, Dec. 16 through Wednesday, Dec. 22 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Athletic Ticket Office located at 1100 S. State St. Tickets may also be picked up at the Michigan will-call window at the Gator Bowl on the day of the game.
GROUP SEATING: Due to time constraints, we are unable to accommodate student group seating, but all U-M students will be seated in the same area. If you wish to sit with other students, please place orders together under a single account.
Student tickets are not transferable to any other person and will not be released to anyone other than the student season ticket-holder. There are no exceptions, and no refunds are permitted.

Most likely. Probably will fool around with not getting tickets for a while.
J'ville may not be so warm that time of year. Brrr.
December 5th, 2010 at 11:49 PM ^
I was thinking about making the drive from Tampa, but with those ticket prices, I think I'll put the money towards some brew and enjoy it from the comfort of my sofa.
December 6th, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
Oh come on man, those prices aren't bad at all. I wish I was in driving distance to see the bowl game, I was planning on driving to Tempe if we were in the Insight Bowl. If 80 bucks or whatever is discouraging you from going, that's weak sauce.
December 6th, 2010 at 1:49 PM ^
Insight Bowl would have been nice. We could have had an mgoblog caravan to the game. Now I am going to have to figure out plane tickets and hotel rooms. Hopefully my friend pulls through and gets cheap plane tickets for me.
December 8th, 2010 at 1:30 AM ^
Take a look at craigslist. There are tickets to be had for as little as $40. If you can't afford the gas from Tampa, let me know and I'll give you a ride.
December 6th, 2010 at 2:26 AM ^
for the holidays, returning to SF on 12/31, but kind of thinking I might turn around and get right back on a plane to go although not that jacked to fly on NYE.
If I stay until 1/3 the airfare is only $500 +/- and three nights hotel leave me at ~$1K, plus ticktes and drinks and possibly some food.
Hmmmmmmm......this is more than i have wanted to see a bowl game for a long time.
Hmmmmm....pondering. Going to be busy on kayak tonight.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:10 AM ^
will be there.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:27 AM ^
Any Jax natives have any comments on how easy it is to get around town without a rental car? Apparently it's the largest city in the continental US in terms of land area. Not too pleased to hear that.
December 6th, 2010 at 12:18 PM ^
While the city limits are huge, the downtown is compact. If you stay at one of the downtown hotels like the Hyatt or Omni you can comfortably walk to the game. Just remember that this is north Florida and can be chilly in January.
December 6th, 2010 at 1:34 PM ^
So I'm assuming you wouldn't suggest staying in the Deerwood Park or Baymeadow area unless we had a car then? I know there are a few buses that run around there, but those don't seem that convenient to get downtown with. Is most of the nightlife and restaurants in the downtown area also?
December 7th, 2010 at 8:45 AM ^
No that's too far away from the stadium unless you knew the bus schedules or had a car.
December 7th, 2010 at 8:47 AM ^
I've lived here 4 yrs. It's so easy really. I-95 is your main North / South road. Then every other road runs mostly East / West...if you go too far East, you'll end up in the ocean & if you're downtown, you won't wanna go west because you're going the opposite direction of the stadium, it's really not that bad.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:52 AM ^
Already got tickets. anyone know which hotel Michigan fans are staying at???
December 6th, 2010 at 11:28 AM ^
Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront
Still waiting to find out if that's the team hotel, or it's another one.
December 6th, 2010 at 1:07 PM ^
i had 4 rose bowl tickets which i just sold for 1300 to some stupid badgers fan.
Booking trip to Jacksonville now as we speak
I think the 695 dollar profit should pay for 3 days in Jacksonville or close to it
Gotta love taking advantage of Badger fans !
Go Blue !
December 6th, 2010 at 7:14 PM ^
Only 495 tickets left, guys.
December 7th, 2010 at 8:55 PM ^
The team was not told where they are staying yet. They're suppose to know tonight or tomorrow. The families were not told yet either. Just an FYI!! :)
