OT: Tigers option Rick Porcello to Toledo

Not a real big suprise in my opinon, he has struggled and hopefully he can fine tune that 2 seamer down in Toledo. Good Luck Rick and my the baseball gods bring you back to Detroit soon.
I wonder who the #5 starter is going to be...
Cliff Lee? Morosi thinks we will have to trade for a SP, but I doubt it's the guys I mentioned.
Gonzalez or Bonine, I hope.
Only a matter of time. He's def. suffering from the old sophomore slump.
We should trade for Oswalt ime
The team that gets him will have to shoulder quite the financial load, to the tune of 40 million over the next year and a half. I think that money is better spent elsewhere.
Sherzer and Galaraga.
He's struggling today and has had just one quality start in his last 4. So explain to me what worked for Max?
He has given up one run through 4, and has 5 Ks. Granted its taken him 85 pitches to get through 4 innings, but his high pitch counts have always been his drawback. He isn't pitching like Ubaldo, but he's on his way to a QS.
that was written in the 2nd inningafter Scherzer was lucky to get out of the first only having given up one and coming off a start where he didnt get through the fifth actually.
greatly on our expectations for the kid. It's gotta be tough enough having two different colored eyes.
I noticed that too. My dog has the same issue going on, on blue one brown, I can state for a fact it doesn't affect sleep, my old dog gets 18 hours a day minimum.
he has pitched better than when he left. He is 2-2 with 33 Strikeouts. I will take that for my 3rd or 4th starter.
I'm a Tigers fan who prefers to win and you are not. Pretty simple to me.
Didn't mean to upest you, big guy. I just think that complaining about a pitcher who has given up one run through 5 innings now, and not bringing up the fact that the offense has scattered 2 hits, (2 hits, is that all we got was 2 goddamn hits Uecker FTW) is well......um......short sighted? But cool, keep reaching for those stars and be pissed when the perfect game gets broken up in the first inning.
I'm a Tigers fan who prefers to live in reality and you are not. Pretty simple to me, and everyone else.
huh, 1 earned through 7 great innings and in line for a very respectable loss or possible no decision looks fine to me.
He's young. Treat him like it.
Oh, would you look at that, Boesch does it again and Max is in line for a WIN now.
I was wrong I guess... Good thing BB is a beast.
I want one.
I don't want any part of Oswalt. His stats against the AL aren't great. I don't want this to become the more expensive Jake Peavy 2.0
Last night and watch Porcello pitch. He got roughed up a bit in the third but then in the fifth and sixth innnings he left the ball up in the zone which cost him. He'll be back- he's only 21 years old- still learning how to pitch in the big leagues. I have all the faith in the world that the Mudhens can get him going again!!
For the same reason why you don't see starting pitchers throwing 30+ complete games a season.
Call it a hunch but I'll bet Porcello will be back with the Tigers someday
I was wondering when this was going to happen. I'm sure Rick wont take it personal and knows that he has some things he has to fine tune. Being an athlete is a job, you have to always work to get better and that's what he'll be doing. Porcello did pitch a gem game 163 last year though, and thats a hell of a lot of pressure to put on a 20 yr old.
I dont want to look too far ahead but if Jacob Turner can be what they expect...that pitching rotation is going to rule...i'll be a bunch of young studs a la Tampa Bay.
Its mid June...1.5 out....baseball season is awesome!
Ryan Ketchner, Lefty Starter, Toledo - 46.2 IP, 2.70 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 34/12 K/BB
Daniel Schlereth, Lefty Reliever, Toledo - 30.1 IP, 3.25 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, 41/26 K/BB
Andrew Oliver, Lefty Starter, Erie - 77.1 IP, 3.61 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 70/25 K/BB
Casey Fien, Righty Reliever, Toledo - 36.1 IP, 2.48 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 25/6 K/BB
Any starter they bring up would just fit into the rotation, any reliever would push one of either Bonine, Gonzalez, or Coke into the rotation. I'm not sure who I would prefer, I think Oliver and Schlereth are the only 2 with real futures in the Majors, but Schlereth needs to really work on his control and Oliver is in his first ever professional season. Fien and Ketchner are both only orginizational depth players, but they could certainly fill in nicely for a spell. It'd be interesting having Ketchner up, as he is nearly entirely deaf, and would be only the second deaf player to ever play in the show.
Curtis Pride, a former Tiger, being the first deaf player in the majors.
I'm hoping it's Oliver so I can continue my Elvis Costello jam session.
Jay Sborz is the one that got the call. He'll settle into the bullpen, and my guess is that Gonzalez is going to slide into Porcello's spot in the rotation.
that it's entirely possibly they make another move here. I read they don't need their 5th starter until another week or so because of the off day. I wouldn't be shocked to see either Gonzalez or Sborz to go back down and THEN to get a starter called up. But wtf do I know. They could just as easily just put someone like Bonine or Coke (as mentioned) in there. It will be interesting.
P.S. I wanna see Robbie Weindhardt soon.
