OT: NBC's Chicago Blackhawk Homerism

Submitted by Blueisgood on

Sitting here watching the hockey game and the homerism the crew shows Chicago is bit sickening. Hossa just got a penalty for goalie interference and Pierre and Edzo were like what a terrible call. It was a terrible call, but last game when Briere took a high stick to the face that wasn't called, nothing was said at all except, so and so stick caught Briere in the face, and that was pretty much the extent of it.

But its not just that.  The whole crew is terrible. I mean they got Chicago's play by play guy in Olczyk trying to be "neutral" and then they bring in Jeremy Roenick, another Blackhawk. Why couldn't they get Darren Pang, Bill Clement, Gary Thorne, or hell why not Jim Hughson. I really don't care who wins. But the more I watch the more I hope Chicago loses.

Yeah!   Sure must be a lot of fairweather fans in a city that has one of the original six!  You Detroit fans don't get it.  Our owner, for the longest time, blocked any chance we had of seeing the Hawks do anything, not to mention his absurd player movements.  Now we won the Stanley Cup and all we hear from Detroit is "Well, none of you were hockey fans anyway."

Seriously, grow the fuck up.

did that mean he wouldn't sell tickets to home games? As a fan of the sport, I have a been to many Hawks games since I moved here  in '03 and there is no excuse for a home games with only 6-8000 fans in attendance in an original 6 city.  This was still happening as recently as few years back when I first started buying my partial season ticket packages.

As I said I am happy for the die hards as they suffered through a lot, but you have to admit the bandwagon is enormous now with people who could care less about hockey sporting jerseys, hats etc.

I agree that the bandwagon is enormous.  Without a doubt.  And there will be those that wander away as the season begins next year.  But guess what?  It's true for every major city.  I saw it happen when the Red Wings entered the playoffs every year.  A lot of fans just don't care enough to watch an entire season, be it in basketball or hockey.  I bet there are far more Celtics fans right now than there were 5 weeks ago.  It's a part of the game.

As for how things were back before the renaissance, I don't think you fully understand what Dollar Bill did to that team.  As others have said around these parts, we were damn good back in the early 90s.  And from then on it was like the dark ages.  A lot of fans refused to support Wirtz as a result, including a diehard like my dad.  I understand it, but I don't expect many Red Wings fans to understand.

It'd be great if Red Wings fans could just congratulate the Hawks and move on.  But a lot of the smug whininess seen here is exactly why fans across the NHL aren't exactly sad when the Wings get knocked out.

Let the Hawks have their time.

The Chicago Blackhawks Championship starts with the owner and the front office Rocy Wirtz has assembled.  Although the Hawks will need to manuver the cap this team is poised to be very good for a very long time.

Look the Hawks have 1 in 49 years...sweet. The fans will talk this and that but they have a far ways to go to be on Detroit Red Wings Cup winning level.

With Ken Holland as the GM the Wings will almost certainly be in it. The Hawks have MAJOR cap issues coming up soon so their ability to sustain will be tough.

Call me a sourpuss cuz Detroit didnt win but I'm spoiled. I live in Chicago. fuck the Black Hawks.

Please go back to Detroit.  This is a Michigan blog but that does not mean that everyone here grew up in Michigan.  My mom's side is from Detroit and my dad and uncles all played for Bo, so I'm a diehard fan.  I will always hate anyone who came from a hell-hole of a city and set up shop in Chicago only to bash on us.  And to those who say Chicago is not exactly a hockeytown, it's because we had to deal with management that led to fan apathy.  If lack of success is your what you are measuring by, then we can disqualify Detroit as a football town.  If you want to say "fuck so and so," then lets agree to say "fuck the fucking fuckeyes."

And yes, you are spoiled, you live in Chicago.  Happy you made it out alive

...that their own drought of 42 years ended only 13 years ago.  Yes, the Red Wings are now the closest thing to an NHL dynasty and they are one of the top 4 teams in the league every year, but most of you remember the drought and when it ended.  Most of you remember how sweet that was for your city and your team.  That is the elation that Chicago is feeling now.  You all have had 4 cups in the last 13 years, but you've also had 4 in the last 55 years.  Never forget where you came from, Red Wings fans, because it wasn't that long ago that you all hoisted the cup for the first time in a very long time.

... anticlimactic goal to end the game, i didn't expect the winning goal to be so soft, and i sat on my couch for about 15 seconds thinking the puck was at center ice with kane
