Max Preps top 100 for 2011
a nice class being put together at LSU - 5 players in the top 30 already. Anyone know when Rivals unveils the Rivals 100 and 250???
Their rankings will be out June 1st. That´s next Tuesday. Don´t have a link but saw it on some mailbag they had.
Rivals 250 comes out the day after the 100 per Rivals Radio.
I know it's Flemming, but he's actually been kind to us the last couple years. Not too many probables on that list.
Are by far the teams to beat so far. Not as much here, but on Scout Texas is scattered across the top players fairly frequently (as usual after their junior days). Hopefully we can manage to pouch some of the talent from LA this year as there seems to be an abundance, especially on the lines.
By my count, we've offered 36 of those guys, including the top three. Unfortunately, our chances are slim with the vast majority of those guys.
Justice Hayes was ranked #59 or something like that. Which . . . like . . . he's really not that good. That was the biggest "overrated" alarm that went off in my head.
Marqise Williams is pretty high up there. It would be swell if we could pick him up and he likes us, but I think the depth chart will end up hurting us there.
Yeah I was surprised too by how high Marquise Williams was rated. I think we have a really good chance with him. But why do you think Hayes isn't that good? Do you really have any evidence to give, such as his vision isn't that great or that he runs too upright or what? Or are you just saying that b/c more people want Hart rather than Hayes. As far as I'm concerned, Hayes has an offer from every single Big Ten school with the lone exception of OSU, and unless every Big Ten school has no eye for talent, I think that Hayes must be pretty damn good. Now, is he better than other players that he's ranked in front of like Deanthony Arnett, Garrett Greenlea, Doran Grant? Most likely not. But to say that he's not very good would be inaccurate.
Saying someone is overrated at #59 overall is not the same as saying he isn't very good. We don't have a RB on our team who was ever in the top 100 (Shaw was 102 to Rivals).
Also, saying a kid has offers from almost everyone in the Big Ten outside of OSU (Rivals doesn't report a PSU offer either, FTR) does not a fringe top 50 player make. A RB at #59 should have more than just above average local offers - he should either have some elite schools from outside the area, or have every elite team in the area after him, and Hayes does not. If he wasn't an in-state kid, I'm not every sure if M would have offered. Take a look at Arnett's offer list, and compare it to Hayes, and tell me if they should be ranked anywhere near each other.
You didn't say a single thing that disagreed with anything I said. I addressed myself that he was overrated at 59 by saying that other players that he was ranked higher than were better than him. What my post was addressing was the comment Magnus made that Hayes "like.... he's really not that good." I understand what Magnus was getting at, that he is overrated on this list, and he is. But a lot of people on this blog have been saying that he's just not all that great, period. He is very good. He's definitely a top 250 player. And he's definitely someone that we should be recruiting very hard, which a lot of people seem to be saying the opposite.
Then that's not what I thought you were saying. When Magnus said "not that good" he meant "not good" to mean "#59." Because you were refuting that statement, I assumed you felt that he was worthy of that ranking. At no point did you say anything along the lines of "I too believe he's not the 59th best player in the country, but I still feel he's worthy of an offer." Had you said that, and if you feel that way, then I agree.
Obviously he's pretty good, or a bunch of Big Ten teams wouldn't have offered. But the fact that he doesn't have any big time offers outside of his home state suggests he's not "very good."
That said, I'm glad we offered him, and I'd be happy if we got him, but I hope he's not the #1 RB in our class.
When I say "he's not that good," I don't mean that he's bad. I mean he's not #59 good. He's not top-100 good. Is he top 250? Sure. I'll agree with that. His offer list isn't out of this world, and he's not a fringe 5-star player. He's probably the 5th best player in the state and I'd take a bunch of running backs ahead of him (Hart, Huggins, Bellamy, and Blakely, to name a few).
Another list with no mention of Dee Hart. What is the deal with this? How come no recruiting services are showing him any love?
I don't think it's so much that he isn't getting any love, but more that a lot of people think he's a 101-250 type player, not top 100.
Part of that might be due to size. He's not a perfect fit for as many offenses as a 5'11" or 6'0" RB would be. For us, though, he's great. Poor, poor fit at Bama or Auburn (Dee, are you reading this???)
Malzahn's offense at Auburn would suit Hart well, I think.
This may be true, but don't say that. (HE MIGHT BE READING THIS)
/sarcasm
Yeah, I thought it was a compliment to Hart to say that he'd fit in another spread offense. I guess not.
Yes, but we're not looking to compliment Auburn, got it?
Well Gene Chizik is an extremely mediocre coach who is a cheater when he recruits. Basically he's Kiffin, just worse. Malzahn is the only thing going for them. Auburn is a little brother.
Shut yer mouth, ya hur?
Regardless of ability, it's tough to be ranked as an elite player when you're only 5'8" or 5'9".
Though he is an anomaly. He is also pretty damn good. And if he was 6'0 he may have been the #1 player in the nation, not just the #1 RB
...and with all due respect to Hart, he's not as good as Noel Devine. That kid is an amazing runner.
We all know rankings are great indicators of the top 10 talent, but how many guys were unranked or 3 stars based on physical attributes that can just flat out run? Dion Lewis immediately leaps to mind
3 star out of high school IIRC.
Kevin Grady
I like that Marquise Willams is so high on there. Would be sweet if we could land him but with the current depth chart it's a little iffy if we do.
Do I hear an echo?
were submitted in a span of 21 minutes.... and they were all in different threads. So I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he doesn't put all that much thought into content.
Why the Lemmings continue to give the guy love, even though he rarely shares an original thought, is difficult to understand.
