Drive Chart: O'Korn vs. Peters
This is mostly a duh, but I wanted to post the drives for O'Korn and Peters in the Rutgers game.
O'Korn:
- 7 plays, 27 yards, punt
- 3 plays, 11 yards, INT
- 13 plays, 80 yards, TD
- 3 plays, 1 yard, punt
Peters:
- 8 plays, 77 yards, TD
- 7 plays, 49 yards, TD
- 4 plays, 54 yards, TD
- 11 plays, 47 yards, missed FG
- 2 plays, 61 yards, TD
- 11 plays, 52 yards, downs
- 3 plays, 7 yards, punt
Rutgers caveats, obviously, but that is a huge difference. Only drive Peters had were we didn't get a first down was the garbage time drive at the end. Every other drive besides that led us into a spot where we should get points.
Peters' final stat line also reminds me of the stats Speight was putting up last year when we were bludegeoning teams. Enough to keep the defense honest and let the run game go wild. Considering our improved run blocking, all our QB needs to do is keep the safeties from sprinting downhill at the snap.
I'm really having a hard time not getting excited about his performance. It was exactly what we needed.

That bet at this stage may make you a moron, but at least you can breathe easy that you're not one of those brake pumping morans!

but having an actual passing game has apparently breathed new life into this offense. If our passing game can be just 'ok', the running game appears to be solid enough to get us through every game but maybe OSU. I'm hyped

Agreed.. my immediate thought as "with an adequate passing game we may be able to beat Wisconsin, then the bowl and get to 10 wins!"
Unless our OL improves exponentially I don't see how we beat OSU though.. their front is crazy.

While we hope the Peters will lead us to many, many more victories, let us not "dance on the grave" of O'Korn. Good kid who did what he coud do given all the other issues.

Also it should be noted all the time he spends with Larry Prout Jr.
Very noble. All signs point to him being an outstanding young man and he will be successful in life.

I also heard JOK was helping in the search for your wife's killer. Does that have anything to do with it?

obviously hindsight is 20/20 but if we go for it on 4th and 1 instead of kicking the field goal we can assume based on how the game played out, Michigan either 1) get a closer FG attempt after a first down or 2) keeps the drive alive and scores a TD.
But really, Peters got Michigan into scoring position on 6 consecutive drives. They were still in FG range on the 4th down incompletion.
October 29th, 2017 at 12:24 PM ^
I thought the FG was the right call. If it was good, it would have put us up by three scores and would have put us out of the range of a Rutgers comeback.

Yeah, Edwards was tearing it up agianst us at the time. It llooked like he might drive it right down our throats again. We needed to actually win a game.

nobody is arguing that JOK played better than BP yesterday. but it doesn't mean he was ready earlier. or that he'll even play good next week.
hope he plays lights out from here on. but it still won't mean everything 'clicked' before recently.

Just give up. You've run into the "whatever Harbaugh does is right because Harbaugh did it" wall. If you hear it coming out of Alec Guinness' mouth on Tatooine while he gently waves his hand, you'll get it: "If Peters had been ready, Harbaugh would have started him. Because Harbaugh didn't start him, Peters wasn't ready."

In terms of productivity? Sure. In terms of the way they stand in the pocket? No, Peters looked like a normal freshman QB eg he locked on to his initial read but he stayed in the pocket and stepped up instead of bugging out and he at least looked to check down sometimes. In terms of one having minimal game experience, youth, and eligibility for 2018 to 2020? Yeah, only one of them offers that so from a strategic team development POV they are totally different things. Pumping the brakes is warranted for this year's outlook; the long-term future got brighter. That's a good thing.
