OT: Rick Pitino Files Lawsuit Against Adidas
I am curious how this will play out. I am not a lawyer but if 'ol Slick Rick is indeed Coach # 2, and is caught lying about it, I can't imagine this will go very well.

1. Pitino presumably doesn't need money.
2. A settlement would likely do little to salvage Pitino's reputation. A pre-discovery dismissal of this case won't help his reputation.
3. A deep dive into the facts here seems unlikely to be good for Pitino. It's hard to prove a negative, so it will be hard to prove his sweeping denial if nothing else.

Most people in this situation would reason as you would.
Two thoughts: (1) sheer arrogant nerve or (2) sly indirect move.
1. Most people haven't done things and then boldly declared not only their innocence but that they were also the wronged party. There is an odd mental point of view that always cast themselves as the innocent party and the whole world as being the evil entity out to get them.
He really believes it - that it was perfectly ok to do everything he did, and that one day he'll coach a major college or NBA team again. This is certainly possible.
2. If it isn't flat out crazy lunacy, and actually has a rationale behind it, it might be that he is using the suit as a way of putting pressure back on Louisville. Suppose this case does go further and he intimates that he will reveal stuff that showed that Louisville not only knew about his actions but encouraged and endorsed it, they might go easier on their contract squabble and he'll make out ok witih a settlement there. That might actually be why he is doing this.
It is the old give and go with a back door cut.

So he'll have to testify in a deposition? Cool!

It makes perfect sense that he thinks he’s entitled to more. Also consider the fact that his reputation is ruined forever. No school at any level will ever hire him now. What’s it going to hurt to try and squeeze a little more money out of the organization that he thinks is out to get him? As far as he’s concerned he’s got nothing to lose.

Somehow I don't think "I'd like to sue Adidas for the deal I negotiated" is going to hold up in court.

There's a lot of people here that are going to look really foolish if it ever comes out that Pitino isn't guilty. For so many people that go around bleating the superiority of Michigan it makes me sad when discussions like this come up and everyone here becomes the equivalent of a drunken peasant convinced that their assumptions are anywhere near accurate.
Was pitino involved? Likely. Is Pitino stupid enough to file a lawsuit that would cause him to implicate or bring witness against himself? Probably not, especially with the good lawyers that real money can get you.

I guess it depends if "Coach #2" is Pitino or not and if the FBI really does have audio recordings of him making deals. Somebody is bluffing here and we'll find out soon.

They've got metadata showing calls between Pitino's phone and Gatto the week before Bowen flipped, but if that phone was tapped they haven't said so yet.

Fuck Pitino. You don't think he knew about the hookers? He knew about that, he knew about this. There might not be any hard evidence that he knew, but he did.

I don't see this ending well for either party.
