Lock in a spot and seee how things shake out.
Where does he sit on UM's CB board?
February 13th, 2017 at 10:48 AM ^
If we have our CBs prioritized on talent alone he would be somewhere in the middle. We are going to take our shot at some of the big dogs like Isaac Taylor-Stuart, Olaijah Griffin (son of Warren G), Al Blades Jr, Brendan Radley-Hines, and Houston Grifftith. Gervin is probably next talent-wise, but he may get a bump in priority as the best player at Cass Tech this year. We've seen that Jim doesn't recruit kids from Michigan if they're not the best talent available to us & just because they're from Michigan, but I think he also realizes the importance of our pipeline at CT.

Except for maybe one thing, file this under WTF.
- Michigan has out-recruited ND lately.
- Michigan has out-performed ND lately.
- Harbaugh >>> Kelly
- Gervin is an in-state player.
- Cass Tech has been good to UMich lately.
That one thing: Some people (possibly including Gervin and his parents) are *really* enamored of private schools.
I guess I can see where playing time would be an issue, too.

I have Gervin as the #2 player in the state, but he's not as good as Ambry Thomas was in the 2017 class. It's a bit of a down year.

Yeah, Notre Dame didn't take any cornerbacks in the 2017 class. Michigan has 4 in the last two classes.

I ain't even mad.
February 13th, 2017 at 10:12 AM ^
Is he projecting to play CB? If so, he probably sees a better chance to play early at ND.
February 13th, 2017 at 10:22 AM ^
Yeah, I think he's a corner all the way. He's 5'10" or 5'11" and pretty slightly built. I don't think he'll have the size to play safety.

No worries
February 13th, 2017 at 10:29 AM ^
though that's hyperbole, according to those close to him, he's very aware of the player's Michigan's brought in at corner in the two classes ahead of him, and he's been leaning elsewhere for a while.
Not sure ND is a great pick for him, unless he just really likes the school, as Kelly might have a difficult time keeping his job barring a big turnaround from last season's disaster.

but why Notre Dame? Purple face and a downward trajectory? At least go to Penn State or Ohio State or something

Long way to go. Let's see how it all looks after ND goes 7-5 and Kelly is under fire.
February 13th, 2017 at 12:01 PM ^
7-5? That's awfully optimistic.
February 13th, 2017 at 12:11 PM ^
I love adding CBs from Cass Tech, but there's a ton of young talent at CB after the last two classes so I'm not worried.
February 13th, 2017 at 12:46 PM ^
Not to hijack the thread, but there's a pretty decent corner from Detroit (MI) King named Jaeveyon Morton, too. He might be an option down the road if Michigan needs someone.

In this rivals he makes it sound like Michigan wan't really int he picture and that ND was way up on the top of his list. I would think the UM would want this kid, Rivals puts him at #90 in the country right around where Thomas was this year.

Does anyone know if we are looking at him? Local kid, all state 1st team and dream team last year as a junior, from a school who has sent some good players our way over the years, also some big misses..(Dion Sims, Allen Robinson, and the kid that blocked "the punt") Ross bros. x2, Dave Bowens, Morgan Trent, & Grant Mason etc.
