Which departing players will be on a NFL roster week 1

Submitted by Coldwater on

Who's going to the League and sticking there?  Some will get drafted and make a NFL active roster, some will get drafted and NOT make the roster.  Others go the free agency route,  roll the dice and hope to make the dream a reality

Who will be on a NFL roster on week 1 of the 2017 season?

DEFENSE

Jabrill Peppers-100% The lockest of the locks

Jourdan Lewis-100% Elite coverage skills will keep him employed for years

Taco Charlton- 100% NFL size, speed, and edge pressure

Chris Wormley-85%  Not a lock.  He'll have to earn it.  But I think he sticks

Ryan Glasgow- 75% He'll have to prove he can hold up to blocks.  Stud in college.  Will it translate to the NFL?

Channing Stibling-75%  can be a lock down corner, but run support is lacking.  He'll have to prove he can tackle NFL skill guys

Dymonte Thomas-40% He has the speed, but does he have the skill?

Delano Hill-25% I'll be honest, I have no idea of his draft stock or projection  to the next level.  Most likely not

Ben Gedeon-5%  He's just not going to have the speed to hang in the NFL.

Matt Godin-0%  No chance.

OFFENSE

Jake Butt-Without knee injury he's 100% lock.  With the knee though he won't be back in time

Amara Darboh-50%  He could be a possession receiver ala Jason Avant

Jehu Chesson-20%  Not very productive this year.  I doubt he gets drafted

Erik Magnuson-20% Best chance of the olineman.  Not close to elite though.

Kyle Kalis-10% He's down in Arizona working with LeCharles Bentley.  That will help his chances

Ben Braden-2%  He just doesnt have what it takes to stick in the NFL

DeVeon Smith-0% We love him, but we know his game wont make it at the next level

I think you're wrong about DeVeon Smith. I think he can make a roster. He has great balance and decent size, sometimes that's enough in the NFL since everybody is fast.

I see Glasgow having a long career in the NFL. He'll be that guy who's on a DL and won't be a start, but will be productive enough to continue to stay in the league a long time.

Part of me hopes NFL teams are really really really dumb and they all take bad qbs and load up on edge rushers and offensive linemen so Peppers drops for my team. I feel like he could be Polamalu 2.0 and would like to see him on a playoff team, instead of a crap team.

I think you're pessimistic on the vast majority of these. It would be a shock if Wormley and Glasgow weren't on NFL rosters, since they'll most likely be drafted in the first 3-4 rounds. It's rare that an NFL team will cut a 3rd- or 4th-round pick; it happens, but far less than 15-25% of the time.

Likewise, while Thomas/Hill/Gedeon might not be stars, I think the percentages shown for all three are well short of their actual chances.

On offense, I think Magnuson, Kalis, and Braden are all more likely than their respective percentages. They might not be stars either, but there are a ton of offensive linemen in the NFL, and there are some downright shitty ones. All three of those guys have the build to get their shot.

I can see Kalis getting signed to practice squad, but ultimately making the transition to WWE. WD or someone else can fill in if there is a developmental stage before WWE because I have no idea.

I generally agree with most of the OP's numbers. I think Godin should be somewhere north of zero, though. He managed to get reps on a very talented D-line.

This is overall a really pessimistic take, particularly Darboh, Chesson, Mags and Hill. Wormley. Glasgow and Strib are all locks, too. I think at least 12 get drafted so give me 13 on NFL rosters after camp cuts (IR counts for Butt and anyone injured: this is about making the team), perhaps more with practice squads. Mags will be one of them (and drafted) and Kalis probably will be on a team, too. Given all the Lions fans here I'm surprised that this board forgets there are a lot of mediocre NFL linemen. Large, strong humans who start a ton of games in the B1G tend to end up on NFL teams for at least a cup of coffee.

Wormley is 100% lock. A few of the others are way too low also like Chesson. GMs don't let that kind of speed walk away if there are things that they can do well.

we say here, it matters only what they do when it matters. So, whether or not I think certain guys have a better chance of making it at the next level is irrelevant based on opportunity and perception of talen by those who make those choices.

I think you are a little hard on De'Veon Smith.  Fitz Toussaint, Thomas Rawls, and Mike Cox all made NFL rosters.  He may not be as athletic, but he has some NFL qualities.  I do think he makes a roster as a short-yardage, blocking running back.  Think Mike Tolbert.

If the Lions were to select a Michigan player in this draft (We selected Glasgow and Rudock this past draft) which of our players will likely end up in the D?

We've got needs pretty much everywhere on D. Taco, Wormley, Lewis as a slot corner. Gedeon as a late-round flyer? Peppers if he falls?

I just have that feeling.
