OT: LA Rams fire Jeff Fisher

Submitted by mGrowOld on

This should tone down the rumor flames just a bit don't you think?

EDIT: For anyone who could possibly misunderstand this post I posted a link to an NFL.com article on the Fisher firing.  I DO NOT THINK HARBAUGH IS GOING ANYWHERE.  I thought the sarcasm above was self-evident but apparently not so I'l repeat I DO NOT THINK HARBAUGH IS GOING ANYWHERE.

This is not a rumor thread.  This is a thread about the firing of the Rams head coach.

I think it is just  bunch of trolls trying to stir the pot, to screw with the recruits. So being said, i think harbaugh may have contacted the recruits to say he is not going anywhere. l think this is why the recruits have moved up there committment dates.

RIDICOLOUS....Harbaugh isnt going anywhere...What has he accomplished here so far? Hasnt won a conference title or beat OSU or made the playoffs..He doesnt strike me as  the kinda of man that would leaving before all of those are accomplished..I think his word means alot...Hes not going anywhere..His family loves Ann Arbor, hes not changing schools for his kids for a LONG time....and most importantly he would NOT do that to Michigan...hes a MICHIGAN MAN...now can we stop with this nonsense

Bill Cowher with Gruden as QB coach.

Harbaugh brothers a possibility to join staff....Jim to handle special teams and John as defensive line coach. Bellicheck to handle the linebackers.

They are bringing Lombardi back from the dead to handle offensive play calling.

D coordinator still up in the air between Ditka and Tom Landry's brain in a vat.

While I don't think Harbaugh will take the job, the Rams are going to go balls to the wall for him. They are going to back an LA-sized dump truck full of money up to his house and force him to say no.

There's a LOTTTT of money in that town, and the Rams don't want to risk becoming irrelevant just a year after moving there. Just have to hope that Harbaugh realizes his shtick doesn't work as well on pro athletes as it does on college kids. And we have to hope that he's having too much damn fun here to want to go anywhere else.

the best way to have kept anyone from associating this thread with Harbaugh, was not to post it at all.  It is just NFL news.  It isn't even about Cleveland.  What were you thinking?

While my heart thinks Harbaugh would never leave AA after 2 years, this one is a little scary.  LA is the ultimate star-fucker town!  Who are the 3 names that would absolutely excite the LA base:  Belichick (not happening, the anti-LA guy). Saban (see Belichick and didn't do well in Miami).  HARBAUGH.  Kroenke has all the money and will be looking for star power.  Hopefully the Harbaugh going west would be John!

Not sure if serious or not, but because Meyer's system would never work in the NFL. He relies on great athletes in space in a very simple scheme that just beats you by out-athleting you.

Everyone in the NFL is a great athlete and great in space. Meyer's system would get eaten alive and spit back out.

This is a bit reductive but it's basically right. Rather than out-athleting other teams, Meyer's offenses, like all spread offenses, are about getting the defense in a situation where they're at a numbers disadvantage where the play goes. Better athletes are just drawn to the system more often

not necessarily yours.  Too much parity in the NFL talent wise and he can't outpay the competition like he could at UF and OSU.

He's perfect for college, gimmicky offenses do well for 1 - 1.5 years until defenses catch up in the NFL.

See Kelly, Chip for a real world example.

Also, his heart may not be able to handle a 16 game season.

99% of me thinks Harbaugh will stay for a long, long time. He's wanted this job since forever. He has everything he could ever want. He's regarded as practically Jesus here. He hasn't even done what he came here to do yet. Why the fuck would he leave? What would be the point of any of this? Anytime an NFL opening pops up I'll be a tad nervous. This one, however, doesn't phase me.

I don't buy the excuse the Urban's system is simple and thus can't work in the NFL. I believe it can and I believe the guy can adjust. Whenever an open job is available, it sucks that Harbaugh is ALWAYS considered. Let's hear it for other cfb coaches like Urban and Saban.

1. It requires running your QB a lot, and in the NFL, the QB is a high-cost investment.

2. DEs and LBs are much faster/stronger in the NFL, creating issues for a system predicated on optioning off DEs and getting OL to second-level blocks on LBs.

Zone-read, inverted veer, pistol, etc. all work situationally in the NFL, but these are the reasons why no one installs a spread-to-run offense in the NFL.

It doesn't suck that he's always considered.  He is a great coach and should be considered by everyone with half a brain (most NFL ownership).

That said, he's got the best job in the world and in another year or two, he will have this team running like the machine it was in the past. Obviously there is a part of him that will wonder "what if I were to go to the NFL" but I want to believe he is very rational and knows that the Ira and Nicki Harris Family head coach job is the best job for him. If he goes back to the NFL, it will last 5-7 years or so before the ownership fires him and then he gave up the UM job for nothing but a few extra million dollars. He had the opportunity to make more money before he took this job two years ago and he took this job because he knew UM was the right place for him then and now.

Why should Harbaugh respond? In this day and age when Twitter feeds are archived like they belong in a Smithsonian vault along with Archie Bunker's comfy chair. Makes no sense. Are we really supposed to believe he's motivated by "revenge on the '49ers?" Really. When all they've done since Harbaugh was let go is 5-11 and 1-12? That's the best they've got? The man got to coach in the Super Bowl against his brother. Sure, losing stunk, but what an incredible accomplishment for him and for his father and his entire family. He's a success story in the NFL, just like he's been a success story pretty much every day going back to Junior Wolverines. There's no need to respond in public. If a recruit has a question, he'll ask it privately. But if you're a recruit in this modern age, you're well aware that "fake news" is constant and everyone has an agenda. I see no need to respond or give this b.s. any more attention than it deserves. And I choose to believe that Harbaugh grew up completely understanding and living the Bo phenomenon and what Saturdays in the fall are in Ann Arbor. He's home now.

I disagree , Silence can say a lot to many people. He cant contact every rercuit to say he isnt leaving.

Until he says " I am not leaving Michigan" Every other team that we are competing with for a recruit will use this against us .

The sooner he says something, the happier I will be .

I get where you're coming from but don't think responding changes anything. Competitors will still say he's leaving.

Plenty of coaches say that they are staying and end up leaving anyways so why dignify a rumor with a response?

Can't expect Harbaugh to tweet everytime an NFL head coach is fired and some NFL shit-stirrer desperate for clicks decides to mention his name in an article.

Journalism in 2016 sadly. There are no consequences when they are wrong, it's just about being the first to publish it and getting those clicks. Look how that headline is worded "reportedly a very real possibliity." Says something without saying anything.

Other sources, for whatever they're worth, are already saying the story's false and Harbaugh is not an option.

So again, I don't think this warrants a response. Harbaugh can talk to any recruit that is concerned about it.

Agree with this. Should he have to respond to every single dumbass report every time an opening comes up? No, but if he would come out and eviscerate one of these reporters, it would slow down. Plus, I'm a bit surprised we haven't seen a response from a recruit at this point. Usually they are the ones that respond to this garbage.

Now that you mention it, it would be hilarious to see him roast someone for starting a false rumor. Not sure that would prevent them in the future... also could contribute to the talking heads' narrative that he doesn't like interacting with the press, etc. etc. but would probably be worth it.

Harbaugh may need to come out and say something.  Cannot say I like it but ESPN is assessing the chances that he goes to the Rams ad nauseum.   Might be in our best interest that he busts the bubble.

No way he takes off now. He will avenge that loss to Urban. I think he stays put for a long time. It is Meyer who is out soon in my opinion. He seems to be very welcomed at ESPN.

Some of this is probably gamesmanship by his agent.  But those of you who think he's not leaving michgan under any circumstances are mistaken.  He's not here out of his love for Michigan, he's here because of $9m a year.  And if LA were to offer him say $12-15m and we didn't match it, I think he's gone.

These aren't the days of Bo and Woody making $75k a year. There's no loyalty anywhere.
