OT- 21 in AA

Submitted by shoes untied on
So today is a monumental day for me: 21 years old. So my question to all of you Mgobloggers is what are the best bars in Ann Arbor that I must go to tonight? Edit: went to charleys and brown jug and had plenty of shots...thanks for advice

Agreed, no need to overbooze. What you want to be doing is focusing on getting laid, not getting drunk. You have decades of time to get drunk with the boys. The years of easily pursuaded college girls paying any attention to you vanish more quickly than shot number 10 on the night of your bday. Remember this day for something special, like a bj in the Ashley's bathroom! It is your birthday, ask a girl for something special.

I've seen it done ... numerous times. Oddly enough, the guys who did it always ended up puking ridiculous amounts of alcohol back up and sobered up pretty quick. The best was my friend's 21 - he did 21 shots, turned green and passed out around 11pm. I stopped around 15, drank gatorade, had pizza, etc. At about 5 in the morning, I gotta go pee. I stumble into the bathroom and wonder if he's still alive - so I check his room (he was my roommate). There he is, completely sober, uploading pictures onto facebook.

21 shots on your birthday is not completely crazy, you just need to start quite early (might be a bit late for tonight already), and pace yourself, drink some water here and there. And you should be aware of your tolerance level; if the most you've ever had in a day is 5-7 drinks, I wouldn't recommend going for 21. As for bars, turning 21 at Charley's is the best option. Cheap drinks all around, and the best shot list on South U for your friends to choose from. Playing "Guess the shot" is always a good time

21 is tough no matter how you space them out - unless you're Alex Boone who apparently drank 30 beers on a regular basis. If you try to go for 21 quickly, you'll black out before you even realize you're drunk. If you do it slowly, you'll start to feel tired and drunk before you hit 21. Frankly I think you need to accept that 21 is a terrible idea (though it's awesome in hindsight).

Good food, best beer selection on tap in Ann Arbor (at least the last time I was in town). Tuesday will be a slow night for the usual suspects (FWIW, Scorekeeper's was the Tuesday night bar of chose circa 2004, but I bet that's changed).

I lived south of campus off Division, so for birthdays we tended to hang out more on the Main Street side of town. A good protein base and a few pints of good brews at Grizzly Peak was always a solid start. Then off to The Full Moon for another few pints of something tasty, then down to the 8 Ball to get your drink on. At closing time, you could take a quick turn by the Fleetwood to get some more grease in your system to make the morning just that much more enjoyable. It has been almost 15 years, so I am not sure if the Full Moon or the 8 Ball are still there, but I had a great time hitting those places on my 21st, and many, many times afterward.

Well mostly. My birthday was on the 1st day of classes, so everone was in town, and nobody had a reason to bail out. We went to Mitch's when it was on the Northeast corner of S. U. and Forest. I think we ended up at the Jug and Charley's too. Man it was such a great time, and damn you all for making me long for my days on campus!

(It wasn't even their birthday) they were just a really huge dude who drank a TON). It isn't for mere mortals though.
