lol!
Nothing says morality like the Crusades & the Inquisition!
I attended a Catholic school for a couple of years. I don't recall being encouraged to fight holy war.
I attended an all boys strict private prep school before Michigan. Great education. However, when people say they are going to send their kids to a private school to learn "morals and ethics", I laugh. If only parents knew what goes on at an all boys private school...lots of drinking, drugs, etc. A couple of years after me a student at my school shot and killed a public school friend over a girl and buried his body.
I'm taking my chances and sending my own kids to the local public schools. They are learning about kindness and respect in ways that were never taught to me. (although I learned them at home anyway).
I believe the article notes that MAAR is not a practicing Muslim.
I've been pleasantly surprised by MAAR this season. He makes a lot of effort plays, which I like, and he also handles the ball pretty well. I thought Dawkins would be ahead of him on the development curve at this point, but Dawkins is too inconsistent.
Another well-done Quinn article. I didn't know much about MAAR other than what I had seen on the court. Thanks for the find!
That was a great article. I appreciate well done long form journalism, and loved reading some of the back story of MAAR. Despite this disappointing season, I hope he continues to do well.
Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman. That's a name you can take a ride with.
This article was definitely worth the time to read - great story.
I like MAAR because when his shot isn't falling or if he sees an obvious opportunity to get a high percentage shot, he'll take the ball to the basket. At times this system looks like the laziest offense in sports.
We need more players with MAAR's mentality.I don't agree with that. He's averaging nearly 10 points a game in Big Ten games and shoots almost 50%.
Is he a Five Star Recruit? Nope...but how many of those do we have on the roster?

That's a failure in logic. Nobody said here that the team should be full of MAAR-like players. However, he is capable of being a starter or role player on a good team. Your complaint that he's not in the top 40 in scoring is pretty irrelevant.
I don't think you're really enlightening anyone by telling us that 10 points/game isn't at the top of the heap.
I think compared to the other guys on the team, including guys like Irvin, Walton, Donnal, Doyle and Chatman, who were much more highly coveted coming out of high school, I think he's doing pretty well for a sophomore.
I think 10ppg is pretty decent especially when you seem to think he's no better than a MAC player. That's ridiculous. You don't average 10 a game and shoot 50% from the field in the Big Ten and deserve to get called a MAC player.
But look at the stats on our team in Big Ten play through 3/5.
Walton 13 ppg (36% FG)
Irvin 13 ppg (40%)
Donnal 10.6 ppg (57%)
Robinson 10.1 ppg (39%)
MAAR 9.8 ppg (48%)
Dawkins 6.6 ppg (50%)
So, according to your argument, Robinson and Donnal should be in the MAC, too?
Best dribble penetrator on our team
So, the best dribble penetrator on the team, and circus shots that go in. That's not good enough for you?

MAAR is clearly a Big Ten player. He could find a spot on most teams in the conference as at least a scorer off the bench. We haven't had a guy who could get to the rim and finish like him since, well who? Even Burke didn't finish as well as MAAR does honestly, though Burke was obviously a much better overall player.
Since Stauskas.
