Garrett Fishaw Source for Kareem Walker: He is "a lock" for Michigan

Submitted by alum96 on

Yes Fishaw is a sunshine blower optimist but his source was first the guy who broke Walker was looking elsewhere when he was an OSU committ.  That source is updating it to "a lock" to Michigan after saying UM was heavy favorite for many weeks.

Plus Kareem wore that UM towel folks - so it must be true.

(Wiltfong Lorenz Ace - "the 3 amigos" of UM crystal ballz - all are Walker to UM and have been for weeks).

Going off the crystal ball, I'm optimistic about Walker coming to Michigan. I'm more nervous about Gary because defensive line depth is something this team really needs, plus he's an instant impact player. Not saying Jordan Elliot isn't but having both would bode well for next year. These next few months will make me quite anxious for February 3rd!

We dont need Jordan Elliott next year.  We have Glasgow Mone Hurst et al.  He can spend the year learning and molding the body into a college player type and unleash in 2017.  I'd be shocked to see him play next year - maybe if we have a ton of injuries but the interior of the line will be the deepest in the conf if not nation.  It's the ends we have some questions about , esp BUCK or someone to back up Charlton if we end up not using BUCK much since Marshall is not ready.

Gary can supposedly play end so he would be a guy you would see next year.

Next year we probably can roll through 2 entire lines ala

Charlton - Glasgow - Henry - Wormley

Marshall/Gary (hopefully) - Mone - Hurst - Godin

And behind THOSE you have the 2015 DE guys like Shelton Johnson and reuben jones (Buck).  I mean that's in theory 10 (No Gary) - 11 (w/ Gary) potential guys we could be rolling thru our DL if the 2015 rs fr are ready to contribute.

Or we might just go 6-0-5 formation and play with no LBs next year. :D

I think the best indicator is the fact that the staff is not pushing (so it seems) real hard to find a RB to replace Falcon. That would indicate they feel really good about Walker. So do I.....

Hopefully true. Assuming he can step in and play right away, he and Smith at FB could be a decent backfield.

I'm not a professional talent evaluator but he seems to have a 2nd/3rd step speed explosion that no RB on the current roster displays.

Well, I kind of suspected this anyway.  Click on his "favorites" tab.  He pretty much favorites every Michigan fan telling him to go to Michigan.

In addition, he just posted last night that his visit with Coach Wheatley (THE LEGEND) went very well!

I can screenshot, but don't know where to post the image to (and I can't link to it because it's not a web page).  You can just google his twitter page (without having your own account) and click on his favorites.

I googled his twitter account, and was able to read several of the tweets.

One thing stuck out to me, interestingly. There was a tweet from an OSU fan suggesting that with Zeke gone to the NFL, Walker should reconsider and come to the Buckeyes. His reply was that Buckeye fans had made very clear they didn't want him. He had another tweet stating he would be blocking negative fans.

This underscores for me:  NO FAN SHOULD EVER TWEET A RECRUIT. I suppose there are rare exceptions somewhere (Michigan fans at his high school currently? Michigan fans/players from Jersey who want Walker to join them?) But for the likes of me, and 99% plus of readers on mgoblog, there's no good reason to ever contact a recruit. Certainly not negatively. But really, I think it is creepy for a fan to contact a recruit "positively." I mean, I need to have enough of a life not to be on the board much anyway. Let alone contacting recruits.

I hope Walker comes to Michigan. Regardless, I trust that the coaches are doing everything they can within the rules to improve the talent level on the team.

We need playmakers at the runningback position, plain and simple.  Walker would instantly give this team a big boost going into next season.  Harbaugh needs to land Walker, Gary, Nauta and a couple more top shelf linebackers.  We will be in great shape if he's able to close strong with this recruiting class.

Walker is good no doubt and will be a huge get for this class. But expecting him to make an impact from day 1 may be setting the expectations a little high. As we have seen with Ty Isaac and Derrick Green, it takes more than some stars next to your name on Rivals & 24/7 to make it in college football. There is a chance that he can come in and win the starting position as a TF but my thought is our best bet for next year is Peppers at RB.

Of course it takes more than stars.  But math and research continues to prove that someone is more likely to contribute at a higher level the higher rated they are.  Eventually one of these high level RBs has to at least somewhat meet expectations.  But you also don't put all your eggs in the Walker basket.  I hope they bring in a couple more RBs as well.  I imagine we'll see some significant attrition this offseason at RB and I would prefer to not have Peppers be the starting RB as well as a starting DB.

I would agree. Law of averages. My only point is that planning on a large contribution as a true freshmen is probably an unrealistic expectation.

I would prefer to continue to use Peppers as we did this season and develop him has  a DB but we may not have any other option next year unless we get some major improvement on the interior line and a healthy RB group that can improve their vision.

RB is one position where freshman can contribute immediately. The skills needed to be a great RB are innate not taught. One area that can hold a great runner back though is picking up the blitz. That can keep you as a 2 down back rather than the all-purpose game breaker this team desperately needs.

I'll believe it when after the end of the respectable rap song I see the helicopter pulling a huge Michigan banner after which KW puts on the winged helmet and states Go Blue!

Just checked out his 2014 highlights. Me likey a lot.  Ridicuously feet and vision. Doesn't seem like a power guy or a bruiser but then again he doesn't seem to take direct hits because he water dances through the line and the second level so efficiently and reads blocks so well. A backfield of him and Deveon in the Houma role would be tough to stop in a Harbaugh offense.

Would be great news.  Hopefully UM can hold onto the other RB commits they have.  Need some fresh bullets in the RB chamber and hopefully one of them hits.  Offense is always going to have a significant ceiling until the running game clicks.

I'm more excited for the OLinemen we're landing. It's too much damn effort to gain 2-3 yards behind this current group. Even Peppers had to scramble looking for a glimpse of daylight.

FreddieMercuryHayes

December 1st, 2015 at 11:54 AM ^

Problem is that it will take 2-3 years for these linemen to really be ready.  What is of more importance is what steps forward the current personnel can take, and then getting and RB to make the most out of what is provided.  Look at what Barkley did at PSU with a terrible OL.  There are limitations for sure, but man, he can make the most of nothing.

I would absolutely hate to see any FR on the two deep next year. It means the older guys who are more experienced and physically developed aren't panning out and will likely mean another year of inconsistent and wildly variable offensive production as the young guys get used to the physical play of the B10 and learn the playbook.

MotownGoBlue

Precisely my sarcastic point. Holes that our OLine created against Oregon State and UNLV, that anyone on this board could run through, are not impressive. Vision, speed, and elusiveness have all been lacking from our RBs lately, but from 2012-present may be the worst stretch of Michigan OLine play that I have ever seen, namely run-blocking.

Ivan Karamazov

I understand your point but I believe it's much harder to find five guys who can work together as world beaters on the Oline, than it is to find one guy at RB who can take advantage of the majority of opportunities given to him by the Oline. Therefore I really want Kareem Walker as most of our Oline are who they are at this point in their careers.
