Hockey announces 2016 recruiting class
No goalie (Lavigne?).
Michigan signs 5 from the US NTDP in Ann Arbor Plymouth (sigh). BU and BC both signed 4, but they got the goalies.
Player | Pos. | Ht/Wt | Team (League) |
Will Lockwood | F | 5-11/172 | US NTDP Under-18 (USHL) |
Griffin Luce | D | 6-3/214 | US NTDP Under-18 (USHL) |
Luke Martin | D | 6-2/201 | US NTDP Under-18 (USHL) |
Christian Meike | D | 6-0/172 | Sioux City (USHL) |
Steve Merl | F | 6-3/200 | Bloomington (USHL) |
Nick Pastujov | F | 6-0/199 | US NTDP Under-18 (USHL) |
James Sanchez | F | 6-1/184 | US NTDP Under-18 (USHL) |
We'll get a close-up look when Michigan plays 5 of the 7 incoming freshmen in the annual struggle with the Under-18 team. That game will be on January 21.
Based on their stats, it appears the Boston schools picked up the top talent on the NTDP. Guys like Clayton Keller and Kieffer Bellows both have over 25 points.
Neat little factoid. This is the last class that will sign with Red Berenson's Wolverines. Will Lockwood's father, Joe, signed with his first class at Michigan.
Will Lockwood is 4th on USA in goals with 7.

BU's recruiting class might be one of the best ever if they can get everyone to show up.

He'll play at least a year of juniors next season. He's not close to being ready for college hockey.

Lots of players signing on, not all will show up and either move to the OHL or USHL.
Goalie Hayden Lavigne signed an LOI in 2013.
Forward Connor Murphy signed an LOI in 2014.
With only three seniors,
Racine (Lavigne)
Nieves (Pastujov)
Selman (Lockwood)
the team is probably bracing for between 3-5 players to sign early this summer.
Werenski (Luce)
Compher (Sanchez)
Downing (L Martin)
with Motte (C Murphy) and Connor (?) as pro candidates too pending how strong their seasons are.
This class does not seem to be offensive-minded.
