Why? Greg Jones Returning to State
Via Yahoo!: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-michiganst-jones&pro…
Jones was one of the best players in the Big Ten this year, and one of the only things Michigan State had going for it.* I figured he was off to the NFL for sure. He's not. Dammit.
* the other two being Tom Izzo, and the Dairy Store.

He'd like a chance to win the Big Ten
A National Championship
Although those things are not very likely....
Can't fault the guy for wanting to come back and play one more year of college ball. He'll be getting a degree too.

This is a gray area. Can you define "degree"?

I heard he was so afraid of being drafted by the Lions that he would prefer an orange jumpsuit to the Honolulu Blue and Silver.

I heard he was disappointed he missed out on the Annual Engineer Roundup & Beatdown and looks forward to the opportunity to participate this year.

Mlive reported that he was only going to leave if he graded out as a first round pick. He announced he was staying right after he got his paperwork back. The site did not say/know where Jones was projected.

Running Backs and Linebackers who have first round talent should never come back to school IME...they have a lot of collisions (i.e. concussions from time to time) and have a finite number of years they can pull that off. With Ray Lewis, Derrick Brooks, and other being exceptions, linebackers (especially in todays pass happy nfl where they have to hit a bunch AND cover speedy TE's) do not age well just like RB's.
Not sure what he was thinking, he just shortened the number of years of Pro Football he will play by one.
EDIT: this most likely means he didn't grade out as first round talent and prolly wants to work on his coverage skills...my argument is invalid - Where's Morgan Freeman?

Eating cotton candy.

why he is staying either... his numbers were insane, it was almost like he was the only guy on the field making tackles for MSU... does anyone know where kiper or mcshay has him ranked???
January 13th, 2010 at 3:09 PM ^
because he wouldn't go in the first round....
January 13th, 2010 at 3:20 PM ^
not entering the draft if you're not going in the first round... but it will suck for him next year if he ends up going later in the draft then if he would have entered this year....

He must feel he will be able to improve himself, when they get their paperwork back it comes with a list of items they should try and improve to increase their attractiveness to pro scouts.
It would definitely suck to drop after deciding to wait it out a year.

i ever heard about him is that he can't cover a TE... but no one covers TE's in the big ten... he was all over the field against TT and didn't seem to have any issues covering the underneath routes....

Once I found out I was not going in the first round, I decided to forgo the draft altogether.

Maybe he doesn't want a winning record against Michigan.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:25 PM ^
wants to expand his skills at defending in a Prevent defense. MSU KILLED that this year.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:39 PM ^
him time returning kicks and possibly a chance at playing either RB or WR.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:44 PM ^
We are going to beat MSU by 14 points next season with or without Greg Jones. Him coming back at least makes the ass-kicking more legitimate.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:50 PM ^
His stock wasn't all that high. And really, can you ever fault a guy for staying four years?
January 13th, 2010 at 4:20 PM ^
At 6'1 222lbs, Jones doesn't have ideal size for an NFL LB. Coming back for an extra year is exactly what he needs to put on much needed weight in the eyes of NFL scouts.

I think he is just looking forward to "Co-Ed Beatdown 2010"
