OT: Halloween Costume Ideas

Submitted by 707oxford on

We're a few weeks out from October 31st, so the Halloween parties are right around the corner.  Post your costume ideas here.

I've always felt that costumes are for trick-or-treaters and college students going to parties.  As I've aged though, I've also discovered that that parents are encouraged to be in costume at kids' events as well, so hopefully this is a thread most people can make use of.

I personally have never been fond of wearing big/ornate costumes and favor those that are clever and super easy to make...think Jim from The Office:

Last year I was so inspired by Brady Hoke that I taped a football to my shoe and wore a T-Rex hat: Puntasaurus

one year in school walked into class in full uniform - overalls, goalie mask and chainsaw, and then fired up the chainsaw.  it was amazing to see how fast some students are despite their outward appearance....

1)Take a white garbage bag or parchment paper 2) spray all the mustard, ketchup, mayo, peanut butter and cream cheese you have on the bag and any clothes you may be wearing 3) wrap the bag over your head Lady Gaga

and nobody at the party knew who he was. One drunk douche kept calling him Einstein. He was serious. I guess this idiot just attributes funky hair (even if facial hair) to Albert Einstein. I dunno? Everyone else had no idea and he even had to tell most of our other friends. I knew right away as it was done well but very few knew who it was even after explaining. He was so bummed out that he became angry and just took it off.

I got a stuffed toy goat. I'm going to hollow it out, put my beverage in the hollowed out body with a straw and go as a chupacabra. Might go all out and wear some vampire fangs.

I made it last year but didn't go to a party so I'll wear it this year. It's Eddie Krueger, Freddy's sexually ambiguous twin brother. The shtick being that the deal Freddy made with the devil (whoever) to haunt dreams, etc was inadvertently applied to his twin brother when he died of autoerotic asphyxiation due to having identical genetics. A bureaucratic mistake that forces Eddie - a man that has never and would never harm anyone - to invade dreams and generally look like Freddy. He has no relationship with Freddy and detests his actions. Eddie moved away to the South when he was 18 and speaks with a slightly effeminate southern drawl. He invades dreams but those of fashionistas, etc. He LOVES fashion and can be quite sassy so he doesn't murder anyone but he invades dreams to give fashion tips and scold terrible designers. The famous Krueger hat is bedazzled to say "JUICY". The famous Krueger outfit is one tossed together in a much more hipster (hate that term but you get me), fashionable look. Striped sweater but nice and with nice brown skinny pants tucked into unlaced boots, lmao. I have the character down. You'd think he was gay but he talks a lot about how much "puss" he gets so it's confusing, it's ambiguous. It's funny in my head and the few I've shown (behavior/character/voice and all) were crying with laughter. It's a dud or winner but my last costume ('13) destroyed the room. Instant hit that a few friends blatantly stole last year for their parties. My only reservation is that some may think I'm just doing Zach Galifianakis doing his fake brother (cousin?) in a Krueger look. It's not that and not the inspiration. Different people/characters.

The past few years in Japan, I was Indiana Jones.  Easy costume, you just need the hat and whip and clothes we all already have.  However, the JP folks kept calling me Crocodile Dundee, so I think I'll move on to something else this year.

Have to admit, though, the whip was a big attention getter from the ladies....  ; )
