So, I apparently cannot begin a new thread yet and I apologize for inserting this into a different (though not completely unrelated thread):

I have heard that, in general, the relationship between the the Ath. Dept. and the outside media declined during the DB years.  Can anyone elaborate more on this... is it even true?  If so, have things improved with the current AD administration.

Thanks for the info!

I don't know if it is true or not, but I wouldn't be surprised. The previous administration liked to keep things close to their chest and reveal little, if any, information. Last year in particular was an absolute mess with the whole Morris debacle. There were a lot of negative articles about Michigan and Brandon/Administration. I don't know if things have improved but some of these issues are due to on field play. Winning solves a lot of problems

Moncrief is the most common agreed upon name as to who the DB transfer is, not only because he is transferring anyways, but also because he is from Prattville, AL where we have pulled 2 recruits from and are hosting a camp this spring.

As for people concerned that he went to a Juco...so did Aaron Rodgers before he transferred to Cal, which is by some peoples accounts the only public U better than Michigan. Since he is an undergrad and would have to sit a year, I bet he is able to get past admissions if they want him bad enough.

As others have pointed out, the only guy in Auburns front 7 that would be a grad transfer is Cassanova McKinzy. He had 93 tackles last year, starting 12/13 games for Auburn. As Sam said, he would certainly vie for a starting position immediately.

McKinzy is not a guy who is transferring - this guy was a potential NFL early entry.  Some of these guesses are outlandish - this was the team's 2nd leading tackle:

"The auburn family means to [sic] much to me to not take advantage of the time I have here," McKinzy tweeted. "I'm looking forward to helping us build the best defense in college football. Can't forget my brothers an [sic] that grind we embrace. I love you all. Couldn't ask for a better back bone."

And if someone told you at the spring game that Blake Countess was going to transfer would you not have been shocked?

The way Sam has described the grad transfer "a former 4star for a traditional southern power that would come in and start" (paraphrased obviously), whoever it ends up being is going to come as somewhat of a surprise no matter what. We have a good front seven as it is and if they are a starting senior on an SEC power, no one is betting on them leaving...just like Countess.

I don't know that it's McKinzy but I don't know that it's not. Auburn just got a new DC. Florida just got a whole new staff and Durkin recruited a lot of those kids for his system, so it could easily be a pair of kids on the Gators too.

Blake is not a potential top 3 round NFL player who was the 2nd leading tackler on his team and who considered early entry.  One has nothing to do with other.  Again some of these guesses of Florida's or Auburn's 1st or 2nd best defensive player coming here are a bit silly.  Auburn also didnt change its head coach.

It's going to be a player similar to Moncrief who is getting pushed out for playing time - just like Blake.

cut and pasted this from the last thread on the topic.  Moncrief is the only one who really even has played much at all.  And is constantly getting passed by other guys incl a true freshman this spring.

RE: Auburn guys

Damn Muschamp is cleaning house - 5 DB attrition alone since he showed up!  fyi - 12 players (!!!) have left Auburn since end of the 14 season.

1) S Derrick Moncrief was a 4 star but at the community college level (sounds like he played 1 year there in between HS and college).  Ironically his community college's logo looks like the split UM that Brandon banished.  He was a true JR last year so would have to sit out a year.  In spring ball he was behind a true freshman named Tim Irvin. He indicated he would pursue transfer to a ACC school

A native of Prattville, Ala., Moncrief told the Advertiser he may try to transfer to an ACC school. If that occurs, Moncrief would have to sit out next season to satisfy the NCAA's transfer rules. Moncrief has one year of eligibility remaining.

.

  Reasons for leaving:

"I came in as the No. 1 safety in the country and things are just not going well there.  But Auburn was a good place, I just want to thank them for everything, for them recruiting me, and I wish them the best of luck."

Moncrief was rated the nation's No. 1 safety in the country out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and was expected to step in and start for Auburn in 2014, but he failed to do so and spent most of the season as Auburn's third safety. He averaged 20.8 snaps per game and made 27 tackles.

Originally from Prattville High School, Moncrief signed with Auburn out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He was rated by some services as the nation's top junior college safety prospect.

After spring practice, Muschamp said Moncrief needed to "continue to come on."

2) CB Kamryn Melton was a SO who did not crack Auburn's 2 deep depth chart.  Only played 3 games - did not record a tackle.   Prior year suffered a season ending knee injury after 3 game hence eligible for medical RS.   He was only a 3 star prospect so doesnt seem to fit the bill per Webb's description.

3) CB Joe Turner is another JUCO transfer into Auburn.  He was a 3 star at the JUCO level not 4 so again doesn't fit Webb's description.  He didn't play a game last year and has not been with the program for a while it seems.

After becoming the final signee of Auburn's 2014 recruiting class, Turner was unable to find his niche in the secondary. He didn't appear in a single game last fall.

------------

I don't know - I guess Moncrief makes some sense other than the idea he said he plans on attempting to latch on with the ACC.  He is the only 4 star of these 3 but a 4 star at the JUCO level.  These other 2 guys really have contributed little to nothing at the NCAA level and even Moncrief really is a bit player for Auburn.

The other 2 DBs who left Auburn are already elsewhere - this is just the way of the SEC it appears with massive turnover:

The first departure was safety Mackenro Alexander, who transferred to South Florida in January. One month later, corner Kalvaraz Bessent — who redshirted in 2014 — left to pursue other opportunities. He reportedly enrolled at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kan., last month.

I guess that I'll break this here... it's me. I run a 5.42 40 yard dash, benched 225 lbs .5x & won like 12 National Championships in a row when I used to play NCAA on the PS2.

Have really been tearing up rec league kickball lately and Jim flew out to New York to check me out in action after Peru. Needless to say I crushed it, he and I had celebratory whole milks after to celebrate. And yes, yes you are a little more dumb upon reading this.

Also, the plus of getting a kid from Auburn is that you can guarantee his body is in perfect health. I mean, that's where all the kids from OSU with completely damaged bodies go to, get dipped in the AL waters and get completely whole and healed.
