Candid Harbaugh interview with our old friend Kawakami

Submitted by Raskolnikov on

1/2 hour really great interview with JH & Timmy K. Harbaugh is being quite open and honest about his departure from SF and the job at Michigan.

A couple points of interest:

- Said he felt that he didn't leave the 49ers, that management left him

- Said people would look at him and then look away, and otherwise act a little off in his last days in SF

- Didn't look at any other jobs (Raiders, etc.), made Michigan choice from his heart

- Feels a ton of nostalgia at Michigan, it hasn't changed so much that it feels new to him

- Is enjoying twitter

- Has Netflix

etc.

During commercials he watches... the commercials.  People put time and effort into them, so why should they be skipped?  They are not bathroom breaks or snack breaks.  A well-produced commercial can be enjoyed just as much as the show itself.  Once, Jim Harbaugh was 45 minutes late for practice because he watched a Snickers commercial repeatedly, admiring the cinematography and editing.  It was astounding.

I don't know about you, but when I'm pumped about something going on in my life, I sure as heck don't mind me talking about it if someone asks me to. Getting to speak about one of your ultimate passions in life is something that is hard to turn down.

Plus, these guys have a history with each other while he coached the Niners - They know each other. If you listened, even his wife addressed Tim as if she's cooked a meal for him in the past.

...Now that I think about it, this may actually be more about helping Tim get his Podcasts a good headstart (this is the first one he's done) than actually all about Jim himself.

Either way, Harbaugh.

The 49ers loss is definitely our gain! I'm glad to hear that Harbaugh was not interested in any other jobs, except for Michigan!  I still wake up every morning saying to myself, damn, we got Harbaugh!

For some reason I just love that he coached in one of the best food cities in the world and his answer for the best restaurant he's ever been to is Cracker Barrel.

completely validates the NFL reporters stories?! JH handled the SF final weeks about as professionally as could be expected considering the social media trashing he received by the 32 year old owner.

That was a great interview, and Harbaugh came off friendly and polished, a very good guy.

I like that he had generous things to say about the conference, too.

I could listen to him talk football and life for hours. "Attacking this day with enthusiasm unknown to mankind" isn't just a line, you can tell he genuinely feels that way about life. I would like to take this time to give a shoutout to my Valentine this year: 49ers management. I love how you submarined one of the best coaches in the NFL and allowed him to come home to turn Michigan football around.

I loved Harbaugh's tweet on deceit.  I never went to law school (would've flunked out) but I couldn't help thinking about Urban Liar's employment agreement.  Did OSU miss the boat on requiring him to be honest and forthright in his dealings on behalf of THE OSU?  Is that level of deceit tasteless yet somehow acceptable to his employer?

So I found his contract, thanks to sunshine / foia laws.

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/osu/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/2012-1…;

Section 1.5: Coach shall... comport himself at all times in a manner consistent with good sportsmanship and with the high moral, ethical, and academic standards of Ohio State and its Department of Athletics.

Section 5.1.e and 5.1.o: (Coach's employement may be terminated "for cause" if there is) fraud or dishonesty of the coach... or acts of dishonesty, misrepresentation...

Seems like Coach Urban Liar is either in breach of his contract for his deceit in Webergate, or he is acting per the standards at The OSU.  What's worse?

The irony of all this?  In his term sheet (signed before his employment agreement) Urban Liar demanded that OSU cooperate in creating the "Urban Meyer Fellowship for Ethics in Leadership in Sports."

LOL :)
