Scouting Report: 2016 Quarterbacks

And here...the moment that four of you have been waiting for...the one...the only...(unless Michigan recruits more of them)...

2016 QUARTERBACK SCOUTING REPORTS!!!!!!!!!!1

Okay, but seriously. Over the past week, I've been looking at the quarterbacks Michigan has recruited throughout the 2016 cycle. This includes a couple guys that Hoke recruited but maybe have not necessarily been actively pursued yet by Harbaugh. I then went through and ranked the guys in order of their fit with Michigan/Harbaugh.

Have at it if you wish:

Now these potential recruits are more than just a name and numbers.

I wonder which other college coaches have the best track record of developing successful quarterbacks?  JH has to be near the top.

Eason is head and shoulders above the rest as a pro-style guy, IMO. Patterson seems to have that "it" fact where he'll get the job done. I had a hard time choosing between Costello/Haskins for the third spot, and I picked Costello based on his level of competition.

I'll say this: anyone below Haskins would be slightly disappointing to me. They have their good qualities, but they won't leave with me with rosy feelings.

He is a great athlete...but does not have a great head on his shoulders for the QB position. I know several families with kids that played on his team this year. He is the type of guy that you watch in practice and say wow...but in games makes head scratching decisions, locks down one receiver, you know the rest

It seems that Harbaugh is not only creating a lot of competition at the QB position on campus, but (with the number of offers we have out there), he's creating a competition for the recruits too.

Especially if there's only one slot available this class, and especially if Michigan is viewed in the top 5 schools for pro-style QBs in the country now, to what degree is there pressure on these kids to get to campus and be the first to commit and take up that slot?  Weeds out the serious vs unserious kids pretty fast.

As Magnus mentioned, if we can lock down one of our top 3 choices at QB by March or April (and assuming we can KEEP him on lockdown), that really helps out the rest of the recruiting class. First, it's one of the big key positions already taken off the board.  The staff can focus on other slots.  Second, since it is such a key leadership role, getting a blue chip recruit in that slot it signals to all the other kids in the class (WRs, OL, etc) that they'll be joining a winning class.  Creates momentum.

In years past it was great having a hung-ho true blue QB becoming the unofficial "mayor" of the recruiting class, but more often that not, the kid was a local Michigan product.  But if we can get a 5 star or super high composite 4 star QB (especially one with a big national profile) to fill that role, it helps.

Steve Wilfong tweeted that Shea Patterson is announcing his commitment on Tuesday, Feb 17th. It looks like Steve believes that Ole Miss is the favorite for now.
