Zach Gentry Question . . . should he wear number 16?

Watching Zach Gentry's video makes me think he could end up as a tight end similar to the way that Jay Riemersma (Zeeland's own) did back in the day!

Kid is a beast and could play another position is my point -- Like Riemersma (recruited as a QB but ended up growing into a TE)!

If they get rid of the legacy numbers, he wouldn't be able to wear it because it is retired. If he wants 11, give him 11. Whether on Saturdays, on the practice field, or in the classroom, I am sure he will "earn" it by the end of his career here.

I'd like our chances much better with a true freshman hand-picked by Harbaugh than a junior Shane Morris who has shown absolutely nothing.

I think Shane is broken like Bellomy and DG were after their traumatic outings.

Except you realize Harbaugh probably hand picked him to start in a few years, not next year right? Every scouting report available talks about raw Gentry is. If he plays next year, even at I'm garbage time, we're probably in trouble.

I'm not entirely sure it's accurate to say Gentry was "hand-picked" by Harbaugh.  Gentry looks like a gifted player and was certainly the best QB available in the limited time Harbaugh had to work with, but we won't ever know which QB Harbaugh would have targeted as his #1 choice in 2015 had he been here for the entire recruiting cycle.

Similarly, we can't rule out the possibility that Harbaugh would have pursued Morris, had Harbaugh still been coaching in the NCAA during Morris' year.  Morris ticks off a lot of the same boxes that Gentry does: tall, big arm, decent speed.  And Morris is still a pretty young player; the light bulb could still come on.

I think that Shane or Speight can be rejuvanated. Hoke was horrible at QB development, but while each had to get not developed properly, only Shane plane any amount of time under the Gotterdamerung line. And I think that Harbaugh will be able to coax him back. These kids are players and want to play. Harbaugh will test them but that will instill some confidence in them.

Further, Harbaugh doesn't need them to be world beaters. He can deal with game managers. And I certainly think that Harbaugh can bring them back to that level.

I am old enough to remember Riemersma and was in attendance at his first game.  He switched to Tight End because he tore his rotator cuff.  Let's hope that doesn't happen to Gentry.  I would like to see him stay at qb.

Does anyone have any insight as to whether that confounded noodle will be taken down (and hopefully blown to smithereens) prior to the season? That POS has to go!!

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I'd like to see 98 continue to be used for the starting QB. I think it's pretty cool and would an interesting unique tradition.

What's wrong with 98 for a QB?  Oh, the NFL doesn't do it.  Whatever.

I don't like retiring numbers.  At what point do you stop?  So 11 is a number that should not be issued, but 7 is ok?  25 just went into the HOF & is fine to give to a walk-on LB, but 48 is a no-go because he ascended to the presidency?

If a kid wants a number, give it to him.  Let him know the legacy of that number.  If he does well, his legacy will be added to it.

Or, just tell him he's not good enough to wear the number he wants to, he never will be, and because we have to have enough numbers to give out that no matter what he does he will never be viewed in the same light as these other guys because we need to be able to issue his number to a backup kicker in the future.  Here's a number you don't want kid.  Thanks for coming.

Retiring numbers is stupid.

No number 98 or 22 or something. Somewhere between 5-18 is fine.  I prefer they retire the Legends numbers and put them up in maize on the Blue section below the windows of the suites.  That area looks bland and boring.  If they displayed them right it would be impressive.

this is how we end up with the only the best wide reciever wears the number 1, or only the best corner back wears the number 2. it's a number... not the name.
