CC: Desmond Howard on hiring timeline

Submitted by FabFiver5 on

A few minutes ago during the Boca Raton Bowl telecast, Desmond Howard was asked my his booth-mate when Michigan will fill their coaching vacancy.

He responded with, "Prooably about this time next week."

That's an interesting timeline :)

I am so tired of listening to these NFL talking heads from espn and nfl network saying Harbaugh is staying in the NFL. (Of coarse that's not what I want to hear)  But I am tired of hearing these assholes being so confident on Harbaugh staying in the NFL.  I just have a difficult time believing Jim would string Michigan along for so long.  Why do they want him to stay in the NFL so bad?  Maybe college might be more fun for him without having to deal with GMs and player egos.

It is mind blowing how petrified our rivals are. The talking troll aka jamele hill says Michigan can't even get dukes coach and no way we get Harbaugh. Robert smith has said Harbaugh won't choose Michigan bc he doesn't want another rebuilding job. Joey Galloway says Harbaugh won't matter bc Michigan can't recruit or land real athletes. Our rivals refuse to believe it bc they know once it happens, order will be restored. All of them deserve to be blasted on twitter. Can wait to hear the backtracking on all the shows those talking heads are on.

I know I can immediately disregard most comments like these because I don’t buy the “re-building” notion that outsiders seem to gravitate to. That’s an easy thing for an uninformed person to say because all they do is look at the W-L and jump to that. This team/roster is will be starting to mature in 2015 and should be ready to win, now, and not 2-3 years from this point. If a coach takes over this team and takes 2-3 years to win, I think it would be a failure.

I'll preface this by saying recruiting rankings aren't the end all be all, but in general they give you a pretty good idea of how much potential should be on a roster.  If you look at recruiting rankings over the last 4-5 years in the Big Ten, OSU and UM have far and away accumulated more 4 and 5 star players then the other Big Ten teams.  The 3rd place team, Nebraska, isn't even close to UM in terms of the amount of 4 and 5 star high school recruits on the roster.  If UM can get the right coach (Harbaugh please) that can develop players and can continue to recruit like Hoke did (if not possibly better), I don't think it's to far fetched to see UM and OSU dominating the Big Ten.

Honestly, I've never gotten the impression Des has any insider sources other than other former players. He even seems out of touch with the current team sometimes. We all love Des, but I suspect he's got more 'sources' in ESPN than he does with Michigan
