UM-OSU most-watched regular season game EVER on FOX

My new take on the long commercial breaks (and replays) might be a little out of left field. For a team such as Michigan vs a faster paced, throw the ball 50 times/game team (OSU) perhaps it’s an advantage. It gives our defense time to catch their breath and make better in-game adjustments. Same with the offense as far as making adjustments. I’m sure after Edward’s first huge TD that OSU would of been happier with no tv commercials, a quick kickoff and try to catch UM’s D out of breath after their previous drive.
Plus, I’m at home and can tend to other matters during the breaks.

I agree with that. I think it helped the Michigan defense in the first half because Ohio State had an advantage in time of possession.

I thought the game started late too. Usually for a noon game kickoff is like 12:05ish. I dont think they kicked off until like 12:15.

Glad the record setting Fox viewership got a taste of what it's like to whip Ohio State's ass on their own field.
I promise to all the third party fans out there that tuned in, it's every bit as sweet as it looked.

I'm still amazed at how throughly we beat them, especially without Corun.

Winning (big) without Corum was a total surprise. This game felt closer than the score, whereas last year’s score was closer than the feel. When we missed the field goal and OSU was driving, I thought that we needed another boa constrictor drive to prevent a last minute deciding play. Then Edwards did his thing. Regardless, it’s damn great to be a Michigan Wolverine.

I didn't relax until Edwards did his second thing.

The lack of secondary support and poor man to man really doomed OSU. It was a big sieve in an otherwise close contest.
Remember the crossing routes a few years back where OSU scored over 60? That was an issue for Michigan in an otherwise close contest that blew it up too.
There were other reasons for an M win, but I think it def was a surprise that the man to man failed so unbelievably for OSU. Or maybe a surprise that they stayed with it, despite Michigan eventually getting their 4 biggest plays of season.

Kazoo, I am not sure what you are saying - and believe that I may - respectfully - disagree. I loved the Buckeyes defensive schemes and man to man coverage.
Their decision to hire Knowles was fantastic - and a hire that I was very glad to see.
Hopefully, the Buckeyes don’t change a thing…
Go Blue!

So what was the one 11 years ago that had a higher viewership?
2011 1 LSU @ 2 Alabama had 20M viewers
The 2006 edition of The Game had 21M viewers.
The 2016 edition of The Game had 16.8M viewers.
Article is a little dated, but fortunately, facts don't change. https://247sports.com/LongFormArticle/College-footballs-most-watched-regular-season-games-in-25-years-120768069/#120768069_5

That stat should come with the caveat that - this was NOT a prime time game (or even close to it).
As a Left Coast transplant I have certainly gotten used to the 9am starts, and actually prefer them, but I doubt that the casual fan with no rooting interest is tuning in en masse at that time.

Same but in the MST. I love me a 10am kickoff. The game is wrapped up by mid-afternoon allowing other, healthier, pursuits.
This year has been extra convenient with my wife and I having a 14 month old (hasn’t seen UM lose to OSU yet!). I graciously told her to take Saturday mornings this Fall to get herself outside while I watch the boy and watch UM at the same time. Winning!

Maybe the Big 10 will get the message that a real rivalry between these schools is a great thing and stop assigning officials from the state of Ohio who are lifelong Buckeye fans...?

That game had some bad officiating but I don't recall many game changing calls. I was surprised. It wasn't a close game. May be that is why.

Greatest rivalry in college sports.

I was waiting for this to come out. I actually saw people yesterday on Twitter (OSU fans most likely) say no one was even watching this game, they were watching soccer. LOL
November 27th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
OSU fans are going to tune off if this continues. They are going to find something else to do with their time. LOL.

Boom.... crushed it

And it was going up against the World Cup.
It was predicted that we would've gotten 19M in a normal year.

UM OSU 2022 - like Godfather II, and Empire Strikes Back, the rare sequel that was as good if not better as the first one. :) Now next year, let's see a great trilogy ending - Lord of the Rings, Return of the King style.

Why does it need to end?
It can be like Star Wars. Crank out a new episode each year.

Hope a whole lot of really good high school football players were part of that crowd.

Do they count all the people at sports bars packed with hundreds of people? Youre looking at more than 17 million.
