McNamara going into Surgery

Submitted by WoodleyIsBeast on November 9th, 2022 at 11:37 AM

Cade just posted a thumbs up in what appears to be preparation for surgery.

Seems obvious that his season is over, and perhaps his Michigan career. No matter what...Michigan legend!!

A true Dude.  I bet he's not done here yet.  I see him sticking around -- who's going to better prepare him for the league, or to be a coach.  He knows how important it is for next man up to be champion caliber.

He's a RS Jr now, right?  Gets a COVID year, now a medical RS.  He's the 2024-5 starter!

If he transfers, he'll be a nice pickup for whatever program gets him.  If I'm Illinois or a decent Pac-12 school, I'm going after him.  He'd do well at UCLA or Oregon State where they're on the rise and have good coaches in place.  Could also be fun to see him at Miss St. with Leach, just chucking it all over the place.

B1G schools where he could logically start next year:

Illinois

Indiana

Iowa

Minnesota

Nebraska

Northwestern

PSU

Rutgers

I believe he's superior to what any of these schools have in the QB room (except maybe Allar at PSU if he develops). He might conceivably beat out Mertz at Wiscy and, if O'Donnell is gone, anyone Purdue has.

The only schools I would clearly leave out are Md (Taulia), Staee (because Staee) and OSU.

That's pretty impressive if you think about it.

Cade McNamara was committed to Notre Dame with Brian Kelly before he de-committed and chose Michigan. Alabama threw their hat into the ring after the de-commit from Notre Dame, and it looked like there was going to be a battle between Alabama and Michigan before he chose Michigan.

Though I don't think he will transfer to LSU because Brian Kelly got the high school QB he wanted in the 2022 class.

Here’s a scenario - what if he goes back home to Nevada and comes back to the big house on Sept. 9 as the starter for UNLV?  I think he could go to power 5 more likely- but that would be crazy.

Hypothetically, if Cade wanted to stay, I think that Cade would have a good shot at being granted a medical redshirt for this year.  His 2020 COVID year redshirt does not count towards his eligibility, so conceivably, if he gets a medical redshirt for his year, he could return with 3 years of remaining eligibility.  Again, who knows if that is what he wants, but Cade could come back next year to back up JJ and, assuming that JJ then goes to the NFL, still have 2 remaining years to start.

It seemed like he was on the verge of returning before the end of the regular season-but no. The injury was worse than thought. Too bad it had to end this way for Cade.

First off, I wish him a speedy recovery and second, for him to do what is best for him.

Thank you for 2021, Cade!

I wonder if it is something small that in most cases would/could have waited until off-season if he were starting? I could see Harbaugh saying hey let’s get you that medical, it’s the least we can do for saving my job and our program. I could be all wrong too.

glad to see the support the kid has earned in A2 going through highs and lows. Cade QBd us to a big ten title the year my dad passed, that season was so cathartic as me and my dad were M fans in a family of mostly Spartans, so I for one will never forget his contributions. I also hope he is being given the captaincy opportunity to be the emotion leader and rally around guy like Eric Mays

A winner who will be remembered fondly for a marvelous 2021 season.

I suspect a transfer to the PAC12. UCLA's Kelly likes running QBs so probably not a stop for him unless Chip doesn't have someone else to turn to (Speight did start part of a year there, but that was when Kelly was just getting started).

While neither Cal nor Stanford are doing well this year, he could clearly go there and be a two-year starter. And the scenery and weather would suit him well.

Cade McNamara is one of my all-time favorite Michigan players. Whether he was the most talented player on the field or not, he has always been a winner. His leadership was evident from when he first stepped foot on campus. If you haven't read his backstory, it's worth investigating his high school career.

Prayers for steady hands for the doctors and a quick recovery for Cade. God Bless.

What a bummer!  I was hoping that he would be in a position to finish out the year.

Last year was such a turning point for our program and his role in that will always be appreciated.  I sure hope the surgery goes well and he has the opportunity to play at full strength again.

I agree with you massblue. The past few weeks the passing game has made me take a look at things. It's ranked #93 now. And there has been some good plays. But last year was special. I thought McNamara was going to be even better than that this year.
