Best wishes for a quick and complete recovery.
Go Blue.

A true Dude. I bet he's not done here yet. I see him sticking around -- who's going to better prepare him for the league, or to be a coach. He knows how important it is for next man up to be champion caliber.
He's a RS Jr now, right? Gets a COVID year, now a medical RS. He's the 2024-5 starter!
November 9th, 2022 at 2:03 PM ^
Because of the Covid exemption, he's a sophomore, eligibility-wise.
2019 - Redshirt year
2020 - Covid
2021 - RS freshman
2022 - RS sophomore

Will be great to see him lead us to a B1G Championship after Davis Warren's natty sends him to the NFL early...
November 9th, 2022 at 8:36 PM ^
Why would he stay?
November 9th, 2022 at 11:55 AM ^
If he transfers, he'll be a nice pickup for whatever program gets him. If I'm Illinois or a decent Pac-12 school, I'm going after him. He'd do well at UCLA or Oregon State where they're on the rise and have good coaches in place. Could also be fun to see him at Miss St. with Leach, just chucking it all over the place.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
He'll be a nice contingency plan for the Ducks when Dante Moore decommits.
November 9th, 2022 at 2:11 PM ^
B1G schools where he could logically start next year:
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Minnesota
Nebraska
Northwestern
PSU
Rutgers
I believe he's superior to what any of these schools have in the QB room (except maybe Allar at PSU if he develops). He might conceivably beat out Mertz at Wiscy and, if O'Donnell is gone, anyone Purdue has.
The only schools I would clearly leave out are Md (Taulia), Staee (because Staee) and OSU.
That's pretty impressive if you think about it.
November 9th, 2022 at 2:56 PM ^
Allar was a 5-star recruit. Minnesota also has a promising freshman. Those two aren't going to be in the market for a transfer QB.
November 9th, 2022 at 7:20 PM ^
Georgia.
Stetson Bennett is in his last year. And, he's better than Stetson Bennett.
November 9th, 2022 at 8:19 PM ^
Better than Stetson Bennett. Ok.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:49 PM ^
Doesn't Kelly prefer mobile QBs?
November 9th, 2022 at 5:28 PM ^
Wisconsin
November 9th, 2022 at 5:43 PM ^
Not sure the UCLA offense is a fit, but if he can find somewhere with a defense in place to play some complimentary football, he will find success wherever he lands, if he does decide to go.
November 9th, 2022 at 7:11 PM ^
Cade McNamara was committed to Notre Dame with Brian Kelly before he de-committed and chose Michigan. Alabama threw their hat into the ring after the de-commit from Notre Dame, and it looked like there was going to be a battle between Alabama and Michigan before he chose Michigan.
Though I don't think he will transfer to LSU because Brian Kelly got the high school QB he wanted in the 2022 class.
November 9th, 2022 at 11:57 AM ^
Good luck, Cade. Wishing you the best.
November 9th, 2022 at 7:12 PM ^
I hope he has a 100% recovery and ends up with a playoff contender next year.
November 9th, 2022 at 11:59 AM ^
Here’s a scenario - what if he goes back home to Nevada and comes back to the big house on Sept. 9 as the starter for UNLV? I think he could go to power 5 more likely- but that would be crazy.
November 9th, 2022 at 1:31 PM ^
With or without subs???
November 9th, 2022 at 2:13 PM ^
For his sake I hope not. He would likely not survive.
November 9th, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
He's from Reno, not Las Vegas. He'd be closer to home if he went to Cal or Stanford. I doubt he'd play for University of Nevada Reno given the state of their program but who knows
November 9th, 2022 at 6:25 PM ^
His family lives near Nashville now. Maybe Vandy?
November 9th, 2022 at 6:59 PM ^
We're good with Swann
November 9th, 2022 at 12:00 PM ^
Hypothetically, if Cade wanted to stay, I think that Cade would have a good shot at being granted a medical redshirt for this year. His 2020 COVID year redshirt does not count towards his eligibility, so conceivably, if he gets a medical redshirt for his year, he could return with 3 years of remaining eligibility. Again, who knows if that is what he wants, but Cade could come back next year to back up JJ and, assuming that JJ then goes to the NFL, still have 2 remaining years to start.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:06 PM ^
But he redshirted in 2019. This is his fourth year at U-M. He could only get a medical redshirt this year if his 2019 one was also due to injury.
November 9th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
Kind of wild to even think about. Clifford has been qb'ing psu since 1998 and Cade could break that record it seems lmao. Kidding aside, it is kind of crazy and doubt he'd be up for that but who knows!
November 9th, 2022 at 8:22 PM ^
That’s quite a hypothetical. The only possible scenario for McNamara returning would be McCarthy suffering a horrible injury that puts his ability to play next year in doubt.
November 10th, 2022 at 12:06 AM ^
But he does have a covid shirt too.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:00 PM ^
It seemed like he was on the verge of returning before the end of the regular season-but no. The injury was worse than thought. Too bad it had to end this way for Cade.
First off, I wish him a speedy recovery and second, for him to do what is best for him.
Thank you for 2021, Cade!
November 9th, 2022 at 12:03 PM ^
Wish we knew why, but best of luck to him in any case. I'd really like to see him back on the field this coming Spring - the kid is a winner.
November 9th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
I think it’s cuz he got hurt. That’s where most of my surgeries started.
November 9th, 2022 at 5:49 PM ^
I wonder if it is something small that in most cases would/could have waited until off-season if he were starting? I could see Harbaugh saying hey let’s get you that medical, it’s the least we can do for saving my job and our program. I could be all wrong too.
glad to see the support the kid has earned in A2 going through highs and lows. Cade QBd us to a big ten title the year my dad passed, that season was so cathartic as me and my dad were M fans in a family of mostly Spartans, so I for one will never forget his contributions. I also hope he is being given the captaincy opportunity to be the emotion leader and rally around guy like Eric Mays
November 10th, 2022 at 7:58 AM ^
I would guess it was an injury that they hoped would heal on its own.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:07 PM ^
A winner who will be remembered fondly for a marvelous 2021 season.
I suspect a transfer to the PAC12. UCLA's Kelly likes running QBs so probably not a stop for him unless Chip doesn't have someone else to turn to (Speight did start part of a year there, but that was when Kelly was just getting started).
While neither Cal nor Stanford are doing well this year, he could clearly go there and be a two-year starter. And the scenery and weather would suit him well.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:18 PM ^
if he must leave Michigan, i would love to see him at Cal under Wilcox. Roll On You Bears.
November 9th, 2022 at 5:51 PM ^
Guessing pac 12 to get back home? Wouldn’t love it but he was an ND commit at one point…
November 9th, 2022 at 12:08 PM ^
Cade McNamara is one of my all-time favorite Michigan players. Whether he was the most talented player on the field or not, he has always been a winner. His leadership was evident from when he first stepped foot on campus. If you haven't read his backstory, it's worth investigating his high school career.
Prayers for steady hands for the doctors and a quick recovery for Cade. God Bless.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
What are the odds he ends up at ND?
November 9th, 2022 at 5:53 PM ^
Hopefully not good because I don’t want to lighten up on my Irish hatred. My only stipulation is that if he goes there, he doesn’t resurrect their program like he did ours
November 9th, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
Good luck Captain Cade!!!!👍
November 9th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Good luck, Cade. Here's hoping you are remembered as the quarterback who turned around the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry as the first winner in a long, long streak.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
What a bummer! I was hoping that he would be in a position to finish out the year.
Last year was such a turning point for our program and his role in that will always be appreciated. I sure hope the surgery goes well and he has the opportunity to play at full strength again.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:18 PM ^
Good luck, Cade!
November 9th, 2022 at 12:19 PM ^
I really liked him, and I think he will have a future in the NFL. Also, I think he could have done as well, if not better, than JJ this season.
November 9th, 2022 at 5:55 PM ^
I think cade could have also gotten us to 9-0, but the way the run game is going, Steven Threat coulda been 9-0 too! /s
November 9th, 2022 at 7:52 PM ^
I agree with you massblue. The past few weeks the passing game has made me take a look at things. It's ranked #93 now. And there has been some good plays. But last year was special. I thought McNamara was going to be even better than that this year.
November 10th, 2022 at 12:11 AM ^
Passing wise maybe but JJ's running ability has really helped the overall running game.
November 9th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
Get well soon, my Prince. I'll be watching your 42 - 27 masterpiece on YouTube for years to come.
