Visitors this weekend
Michigan has/had a bunch of recruits in town this weekend. For whatever reason, I don't think this weekend's visits have been blown up around here as much as I would normally expect. There is another huge visit weekend next week, but this weekend was a good mix and 4- and 3-star prospects.
The two headliners are probably top-100 prospects RB/CB Jeremiyah Love and S/CB Makari Vickers, but picks are coming in for TE Chico Holt to commit and some think Michigan is doing really well with 6'7" DE Collins Acheampong.
For those of you who are glad Don Brown is gone, Michigan even got a couple 310+ pound nose tackles on campus in Kayden McDonald and John Walker.
Here's the link to the full list: LINK.
On a side note, if you haven't heard, I have now started working part-time for Rivals. I may be stretched a bit thinner, but I am still going to maintain Touch the Banner and keep posting here on the message board and whatnot.
The failures of the 2018 Ohio State game had their fingerprints on the 2017 game. Michigan was leading 20-14 in the 3rd quarter with John O'Korn playing QB. Michigan injured JT Barett, which should have basically wrapped up the game. Instead, red shirt freshman QB named Dwayne Haskins comes in and goes 6/7 and basically shreds the Michigan defense.
You would figure that in 2018, Don Brown would have looked and saw what Haskins did in 2017 and maybe planned accordingly. I guess not.
2019 came and Justin Fields continued on right where Haskins had left off. By now, other people were watching what Ohio State was doing against Michigan and copying it.
2020 with Covid is difficult to judge but the on field results were giving a good indication that Don Brown's defense was good against bad teams but teams with a good QB could slice and dice up his secondary and there did not appear any fix on the horizon.
Last season Harbaugh had 99 problems but Don Brown's defense wasn't one of them.
We were more likely to win with JT Barrett in the game. Also Haskins pulled off several 50//50 3rd and longs that OsU needed to stay in the game. Just brutal.
OldSchoolWolverine seems like the kind of guy who'd say "Our O-line outweighs their D-line by an average of 3.7 pounds per position. We're going to steamroll them1"
Yeah, that backhanded comment in the OP was a bit weird. Are there still Don Brown loyalists here? Didn’t last year prove we needed something different to get over the hump?
Congrats on the well deserved opportunity Magnus!
Gracias!
Wiltfong has now crystal balled Acheampong to Michigan as well
With a 30 out of 10 confidence LOL.
And here I thought they only went up to 10.
Congratulations Magnus, someone should have hired you a decade ago!
Thank you!
I am happy that your network is expanding. I have looked at you as a voice of reason around here. May not always agree with your opinion, but certainly respect it. A well earned opportunity, to be sure, now go prove them right for giving you a shot.
You don't always agree with me?!?!?!?!
I wish this site had a "block" feature like Facebook! I don't like to hear opinions that don't parrot my own!
Seriously, though, thank you!
Congrats on the new gig and thanks for always providing great info! Go Blue!!
Thank you!
Congrats once again, and I'm glad to hear TTB will still be a thing. You do a great job with that!!
I appreciate it!
Magnus appreciate TTB and all of the MGoBlog contributions. This proves yet again that sometimes wonderful things happen to terrible people.
On a side note, Raylen Wilson rated his Florida visit a 10/10 and said he would visit there at least 2 more times before his season started. He visits Michigan next weekend so it’ll be interesting to see what his post visit thoughts are about Michigan.
Definite upgrade at Rivals. I've always admired your work.
Thanks!
If it's true (let's assume it is for the purposes of this comment) that we have silent commits who we are having wait until the BBQ to make it official, I wonder what people think of this strategy? Will the excitement of having multiple guys commit at the BBQ outweigh the current feeling that we're "off to a slow start"? Or would it have been better to have commits trickle in over time so that we'd be higher in the rankings at recruiting sites?
I honestly don't know which would have more impact on recruiting success overall, so I'm just throwing it out there to see what you guys think.
You would think that making into the playoffs in 2021 Michigan would have improved its recruiting. So, I'm expecting a big summer with some big recruits signing. I don't care how they come in just as long as by next February we have a top 10 recruiting class.
Congratulations Magnus!
I noticed some of your content there is free. Is that the plan moving forward?
And congratulations to us! More good stuff!
Some is going to be free, and some is going to be premium. I believe I am going to be handling the visitor lists for them going forward, so that is something that is going to be premium.
Jeremiyah Love is a multi faceted athlete. He is a good RB with WR skills.
If he is watching closely he should like what he sees. He wants to play the game the way we used Donovan Edwards last year.
I think Edwards game and the way we use him is going to blow up big this fall with the extra plays he is going to get.
He is going to be a match up nightmare for defenses.
We heard and congrats. I'm glad you will still be posting on mgoblog!
Thank you!
Appreciate you Magnus
