OT: Rabbi In The Texas Synagogue Hostage Standoff Is '98 Michigan Grad
“I threw a chair at the gunman and I headed for the door,” Cytron-Walker said. “And all three of us were able to get out without even a shot being fired.”
Originally from Lansing, Michigan, Cytron-Walker is a married father of two daughters who became the Reform synagogue’s first full-time rabbi in 2006.

Charlie came to a few of my band’s shows at the Half-Ass. Really, really nice guy. He invited me, a Black Christian, to a Reform service, and I really enjoyed it. I seem to recall that “Oh no! Acid Rain” shirt.

Snaps for Charlie!!! He was quite heroic. We need to bring him to the North End Zone for one of our time outs at the Big House next season.
On a more serious note, although I haven't heard of evidence of anti-Semitism behind this attack it is quite troublesome that synagogues which historically have been open to the community need to be locked down and secured to prevent these types of attacks.

The guy targeted a synagogue. Seems to me that's some anti-Semitism.

Throwing a chair at a gunman is generally not a good idea.

Actually, in a live shooter situation, professionals have taught us educators/students to throw objects at the shooter (books, staplers, etc) and rush the shooter if they encroach on where you are hiding. It was a “bold” tactic in a hostage situation, but one that is taught by law enforcement to be effective, particularly if there are many vs 1.

There is a difference between hostage situation and active shooter though.
