An MGoBlog look back at Lions' 3rd-round pick Ifeatu Melifonwu
It was (of course) noted that ex-Wolverine Ben St-Juste got picked in the draft. Later, the Lions took a guy who was "on the radar" back in 2017:

Quote from the second link (emphasis mine):
"It's odd, but Melifonwu is a guy I'd really like Michigan to add. They don't have a lot of safeties, is brother is headed for the early rounds of the NFL draft, and Don Brown is familiar with the area and the family. I'd be more bummed about missing out on him than one of the WRs despite the WRs being highly touted folks."
Funny how things work out sometimes ...
I mean a broken clock is right twice a day. I kid. Brian tends to have a keen eye. He’s been looking at these things for a bit.
Oliver Martin, Willie Gay(who didn’t come), Aubrey Solomon, [Dereon Irvin-bay]are all in that post. 2017 has to be the most disappointing/under-performing recruiting class in the history of college football.
Edit: Not to continue the bellyache, but James Hudson was drafted 110 overall.
Interesting thing about St Juste, we've been hearing for years he was a tall CB. 6-1, to 6-3 range. He officially measured at 6"0.
Sounds like another great deduction from our medical group that declared he should medically retire.
Wow! I always liked him because of his potential at 6'3. That's crazy!
I'm not sure where you got this but Benjamin St. Juste was measured at 6033 at the Senior Bowl so he always has been 6'3". He never got measured out at 6'. He was measured out at 6'3 1/4" at pro day. So where are you getting 6' from? Unless you got confused by 6033 as 6' tall
We also recruited Onwuzurike
We also badly wanted Alim McNeill
The major issue here is both of these players are cover 3 press corners (think of Sherman) they didn’t fit the Michigan scheme and both would have been burnt daily.
Sounds like bad scheme if you can’t get NFL caliber athletes to fit into it.
Doesn’t mean your scheme is bad at all. It might mean you’re stubborn to not alter your scheme to fit your talent, but you can have a great scheme and have really good players simply not fit it. That’s not uncommon.
Exactly
Here's how much the world has messed me up. I look at the picture in the link of Harbaugh talking to the kid (with Brown and Partridge) and my first thought is "why the **** isn't anyone wearing a mask?" I'm so depressed.
Actually went to this same high school, but a while back. I might be misremembering but I feel like there was talk about Syracuse putting in a big pitch for having Iffy play running back too, which he preferred, but Michigan wanted him to just be a pure DB. Seems like a great kid, great family and would have been real nice to have in the secondary, dismissive comments about New England recruits aside.
