OT: Ohio - A Paradise for the Incompetent
I thought you all would appreciate this new tshirt from the podcast Maintenance Phase even tho it's not technically Michigan related.

(Not getting anything back from linking, it just made me laugh and thought you all might too.)

Thats the first time i can recall seeing the state of Ohios borders in its entirety alone . It looks just as ugly and boring as one would imagine .

I’ve worked with an Ohio company where I work. This shirt is 100% accurate.
February 13th, 2021 at 10:57 PM ^
I've never been to Ohio, and don't see that changing this decade.
February 13th, 2021 at 11:03 PM ^
It’s what you drive through to get to nicer places
February 13th, 2021 at 11:17 PM ^
Definitely true.
February 14th, 2021 at 6:38 AM ^
I regularly take long detours through Ontario, Indiana and even Wisconsin to avoid driving through that place. My wife doesn't like not being able to see her family in Cleveland, but we made this deal a long time ago.
February 14th, 2021 at 8:15 AM ^
I'll drive through Ohio, but I won't gas up there or spend money. I just use their roads and deposit human waste and trash.
February 14th, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
Dude. I do/say the same thing. You know how Google alerts you when you enter a new state? When you enter Ohio there is just a fart noise
February 13th, 2021 at 10:57 PM ^
If that's Ohio, what does that make Florida?
February 13th, 2021 at 11:04 PM ^
Don’t be jealous we have “Florida Man”
February 13th, 2021 at 11:19 PM ^
Isn’t that spelled, Floriduh man?
February 14th, 2021 at 9:56 AM ^
wait wait, live in St Pete. We have an awesome U of M alumni club here and in Naples. Many M associates down here working, raising families and freedom. Sunsets and all the other bullshit. Not getting sensitive I get the humor as we also have inbreds. And speaking of inbreds good morning Paul Finebaum.

Well according to Shutdown Fullcast, Orlando is the Paris of Ohio.
February 14th, 2021 at 10:38 AM ^
I've been saying for years Orlando is where the worst people from Ohio go to live. I'm in Orlando now. What a shit hole. And I live in Columbus. What an overgrown suburb full of second generation city dwellers who came from the hills.

Warm?!
February 14th, 2021 at 12:43 AM ^
Not gloomy January to March?
February 14th, 2021 at 1:04 AM ^
It's a Mecca of high culture, relative to Ohio
February 14th, 2021 at 7:29 AM ^
A retirement destination for many Michiganders?!

'Ohio' is an old Native American word. It means, literally, 'land of poor white people.' - Dave Chappelle
February 13th, 2021 at 11:35 PM ^
I always thought Ohio was a Miami (the tribe of western Ohio) word roughly translated as sewer or sewage. Both work.
February 14th, 2021 at 8:32 AM ^
I think the poor white people is a bad label to use since ohio and michigan are near identical when it comes to income and diversity. In per capita income MI is 34 and OH 36, both well below average. Household income MI 78400 OH 76958, also well below US average. Overall diversity rankings MI 38 and OH 43, again well below US average. MI actually has more people living in poverty, 14.1% versus OH 13.9%. Making an income or diversity argument between ohio and michigan is like the two slowest kids in the class arguing who is faster....kind of sad. Someone reading this from an 'average' state would get a good laugh at MI and OHs expense.
February 14th, 2021 at 10:22 AM ^
Chappelle's line was funnier.

All I can say is that I escaped Ohio — twice. Got caught the first time and brought back.

Having recently moved to Ohio... hard to defend. They don't let their roads get as bad as what you see almost everywhere in Michigan, so there's that. But I always thought that was by design a challenge to get the auto makers to put out more durable cars.
February 14th, 2021 at 1:05 AM ^
I read somewhere that there was a gentleman's agreement between BMW and Germany that a certain portion of road around BMW's testing facility is to be poorly maintained in order for the company to be able to test their cars on shitty roads

In relative terms, ODOT gets about twice the annual funding of MDOT, and that's a problem that has crippled maintenance in Michigan for a long time. I think MDOT is has the smallest budget of any Midwestern DOT in study after study, in fact. When people say "Fix the roads", the problem usually isn't because MDOT doesn't have ideas - I know these guys through my work and they surely do - but the fact that the funding formula in the state budget couldn't hope to achieve what needs to be achieved.
I have always been a fan of what Illinois and Wisconsin do actually - they actually pave with treated concrete. Meanwhile in Michigan, we're still finding patches from the state's days of experimenting (disastrously) with continuous reinforcement in pavement, which is a fancy way of saying that we spent uncounted millions to watch concrete turn to gravel inside a few weather cycles.

I’m from Ohio and I like it here. In fact, what led me to become a Michigan fan was, at the time, Ohio players is what made Michigan great. Even Chris Spielman admitted he wanted to be a Wolverine, but his dad told him he was going to be a Buckeye. Michigan was just as big in Ohio as OSU was back then. In elementary/middle school, we would play football on recess by spitting up teams with Michigan fans vs Buckeye fans. It was close to 50/50. Now my kids say that nobody wears Michigan gear at school and everyone wears OSU and a few Alabama fans.
Harbaugh’s best team had Ohio guys like Taco, Wormley, and Butt. I’m not saying Ohio is the key to Michigan’s future, but it would be nice to steal a couple of the states top players every year.

I've been wanting someone to make this shirt in maize and blue (not political) as it is an accurate depiction of how we can actually make America great (and something we can unite behind). Or, at least create a better graphic with a block M in Make and America.
February 14th, 2021 at 3:16 PM ^
MGoStore has this
February 14th, 2021 at 8:25 AM ^
What does the Michigan shirt say?
February 14th, 2021 at 9:51 AM ^
One of our U of M regents has this bumper sticker on their car, I saw when walking thru the parking deck, EPIC....

My guess is Ron Weiser given the initials. Don't know what 77 is for - he graduated in '66.

Ok Ok... I haven’t replied to anything in forever... love everyone’s insight usually BUT LISTEN... I live in Cincinnati... this city is quite nice. Full of breweries and tons of amazing food... if you ever get a chance to watch a Michigan sporting event at Kittys ... you won’t regret it! Yes tons of OSU fans mixed with UK basketball... but don’t worry, they’re all really good at serving food!
February 14th, 2021 at 1:58 PM ^
We lived there for 8 years, good city. It’s basically Kentucky though.. we never claimed the Ohio part of Cincy.
February 14th, 2021 at 12:34 PM ^
I think that's one charge we'd probably like to wait to levy against an opponent until we have our own stuff together? Those have been fairly competent thrashings they've been administering to us lo this decade and more. . .
February 14th, 2021 at 12:49 PM ^
I wish their football coaches were more incompetent. That doesn’t seem to be a problem.
