Philadelphia Eagles Looking at Ryan Day for HC Job (Unlikely to happen, but who knows?)
According to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Eagles are interested in Ryan Day of Ohio State for their head coach position. He would replace Doug Pederson, who was fired earlier this week.
Reuben Frank says that this is a long shot, but who knows? As an Eagles fan I would love this move. We would get a good coach and take a bat to Ohio State's knees.
h/t to SB Nation's Bleeding Green Nation for bringing this to my attention.

We aren't that lucky
January 13th, 2021 at 12:01 PM ^
Money talks, bullshit walks. Maybe they would promote G Matt to HC.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:47 PM ^
If Day leaves, there is a 99.9% chance that OSU would hire Fickell.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:43 PM ^
This is our problem. We leave everything to luck. Whereas winners go out and make it happen.
I say we start a Kickstarter campaign to make him the highest paid coach in the history of sports. And we should also all go start burner accounts on Twitter, pretend to be OSU fans, and get #FireDay trending.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
I'm too cheap and way too lazy for any of that Brutus.
January 13th, 2021 at 7:43 PM ^
Hire him as Michigan OC in that case why not?
January 13th, 2021 at 12:53 PM ^
"Ryan Day hired as Eagles head coach"
1 day later...
"Urban Meyer backs out of Jaguars deal and returns to Columbus"
January 13th, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
Nah, just means Matt Campbell would head to Columbus and then would have a recruiting class of 25 five-star players every year.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:30 PM ^
January 13th, 2021 at 1:39 PM ^
Got me on that one. +1
January 13th, 2021 at 11:43 AM ^
Didn't Day come from the pros ? He doesn't seem like the type to jump ship... then again, Fields is leaving.
See, everyone so afraid we won't catch OSU.... lose a starting QB and the window is there. lose a coach and the window is there.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:03 PM ^
Lose Tressel --> upgrade, lose Urban --> no dropoff, lose Braxton --> upgrade, lose Barrett --> upgrade, lose Haskins --> no dropoff.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:33 PM ^
That's for sure. For awhile that's what our QB situation looked like
Taylor - Grbac - Collins - Dreisbach - Griese - Brady - Henson - Navarre - Henne - Mallett (maybe)
January 13th, 2021 at 12:37 PM ^
Unfortunately there was a pretty significant downgrade from 2000 Henson (who was awesome) to 2001 Navarre (who was . . . not ready that year).
January 13th, 2021 at 12:31 PM ^
He doesn't seem like the type to jump ship.
Day's coaching career:
2002 - New Hampshire
2003-04 - Boston College
2005 - Florida
2006 - Temple
2007-11 - Boston College
2012 - Temple
2013-14 - Boston College
2015 - Philadelphia Eagles
2016 - San Francisco 49ers
2017-present - Ohio State
Seems like he jumps ship quite often.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:38 PM ^
Ah, yeah... Not really. With the exception of Philly to Frisco, every job was an upgrade. Philly had a coaching change and he left and went to San Fran.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:41 PM ^
Downvote for frisco AND san fran in the same post.

Regardless, he's clearly shown a willingness to move on for bigger things whenever they've presented themselves. Many in the coaching fraternity consider an NFL head job to be an upgrade over college.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:17 PM ^
That's what every college coach in America does. This isn't rocket science, but listing those other moves as a reason is just stupid. You could've started with : Many in the coaching fraternity consider an NFL head job to be an upgrade over college.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:30 PM ^
A lot of coaches don't switch schools this frequently. Many will land an P5 assistant job and stay there until they are promoted to coordinator.
But this is beside the point, which is that there's nothing in the man's history to suggest he's "not the type to jump ship."
January 13th, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
And as much as he might've thought "I'd like to be at OSU for 4-5 years and win a National Championship before I test the NFL waters" being handed an opportunity, at a good franchise, is a hard opportunity to pass up just because you were hoping it'd be in a few years.
Similar worry for me for Howard. If the NBA comes calling early, would he leave? Hoping he at least wants to spend 6-7 years here to coach both of his sons' college careers.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
It's possible, but one very key difference is that Juwan's coaching his alma mater (and now his son).
January 13th, 2021 at 12:40 PM ^
I will say this again. We all should be lighting candles and praying Day takes Philly and Urb takes JAX. Best case scenario for osu they keep 1-2 of: Mariotti, Pantoni, Combs, Hartline, Judas, and LJohnson.
Additionally, this would also cause more problems within their staff. The next coach won't be Larry Johnson or Judas, they are too old.
Would probably come down to Fickell, Vrabel, and Campbell. If they pass on Fickell again that bridge is also burned and will lead to nothing positive for OSU.
One can only pray, but this is much bigger than a recruiting win, or a random assistant. IF DAY and URB move on, the Big Ten becomes more fair (not sure that's a good way to say it)
Cheers

Are we glad we have Harbaugh now?
If we had been able to hire Campbell, he let most of the coaching staff go, then decided to take the OSU job a week or two later... I'm not sure how the program would be able to recover from that.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:17 PM ^
Vrabel isn't going to OSU.
1. He is a pretty successful NFL head coach right now.
2. When he was on Taylor Lewan's podcast he talked about he didn't like the recruiting aspect of coaching in college.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:32 PM ^
Talk is cheap. He still owns a monster home in Lewis Center, and is a celebrity in Columbus.
Cheers
January 13th, 2021 at 5:11 PM ^
that it is.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:58 PM ^
Ah yes and he's a total nobody in Tennessee.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:38 PM ^
+1 for captain obvious sarcasm! Love it.

Why does it feel seedy to hope for OSU to blow up in order for UM to succeed...
January 13th, 2021 at 5:13 PM ^
Why would that feel seedy? Fuck them. It's exactly what I'm hoping for.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
So the Luke Fickell and Markus Freeman show can go back to Columbus.
That is not a big step down overall (if any) and probably a step up on defense.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:48 AM ^
Freeman went to ND this year. Doubt he would leave
January 13th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
He would absolutely leave ND for OSU.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
Hard to say - OSU is his dream job. You might be right and he is probably going to be a HC by 2022.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:48 AM ^
I doubt Marcus Freeman would immediately leave Notre Dame for OSU no matter his desire to be there.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
Who knows how the rest of Day's career at Ohio State would be but at his current rate, replacing Day with Fickell would definitely be a step down, likely closer to Tressel levels of success at best. I doubt Fickell can recruit outside of Ohio as well as the current staff but they would pull in the best Midwestern talent which would be enough to continue winning the Big Ten, but in less dominant fashion.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:06 PM ^
Tressel levels of success
3 championship game appearance and 1 natty
9-1 vs Michigan
January 13th, 2021 at 12:27 PM ^
Automatic -1 for "natty"
Let that PSU term stay over there (along with its friends "tuddy" and the like).
January 13th, 2021 at 12:21 PM ^
the whole luke fickell as coaching god narrative has gone completely around the bend.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:56 PM ^
Yeah, I don't know why everyone thinks Fickell is a genius. He's the only coach who has made OSU look bad in the last 20 years. Yes, Cincinnati had Kelly and Dantonio do well there, but Butch Jones was a successful UC coach too. By no means a guarantee of future success
January 13th, 2021 at 8:58 PM ^
He has had a lot of success at Cincinnati and he has them recruiting pretty well given the program's resources. Personally though, I think he loses a lot of appeal without Marcus Freeman. The defense carried Cincinnati at times this year (admittedly he is a defensive coach) and he made some baffling decisions in that bowl game.

The last time Luke Fickell coached OSU, they went 6-7.
Is he a better coach now than 10 years ago? Probably. But I'd rather take my chances against him than the current program they have going.
January 13th, 2021 at 2:23 PM ^
OSU was under sanctions and four of their best players were suspended. The team got better as the suspended players returned. OSU was at full strength for our game and almost got us.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:45 AM ^
Lol, this would just mean that Urban Meyer would come back as coach.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:48 AM ^
No chance - Fickell is the hottest coaching name and that is his stated dream job. It is a virtual certainty that he would go to Columbus and take Freeman with him.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:45 AM ^
If Day leaves, Urban comes back.
Michigan Football BPONE
January 13th, 2021 at 11:48 AM ^
Wouldn't them hiring Campbell, the fan favorite to go to UM if JH left, and continuing to dominate the rivalry be more in-line with BPONE?
