Urban Meyer says Michigan finally has a spread offense
“Well, I went back and watched it and I think Gattis did a heckuva job,” Meyer said. “That’s a legitimate spread offense. And he has options.

F that guy.

Exactly! I can't stand how he is revered as some sort of genius....he's a scumbug who did anything to win at all costs and certainly cut corners in his career!

You can say that again!

Thrice is better than once?
October 27th, 2020 at 8:35 AM ^
You can post the same comment fifty more times, but it doesn't change the fact that Meyer is one of the best coaches in college football history.
If cutting corners and "doing anything to win at all costs" guaranteed success by itself, guys like Bobby Petrino and Lane Kiffin and Art Briles would already have an armload of national championships.
October 27th, 2020 at 8:42 AM ^
Exactly. I will always question that guy’s integrity and morality. I will Never question that guy’s coaching acumen.
October 27th, 2020 at 9:10 AM ^
Bet net-net, F Urban Meyer.
October 27th, 2020 at 9:53 AM ^
I don't like him even a little bit, but there's a case to be made that he's the best: Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State. Those first two prove his ability to coach without immense advantages, the last two demonstrated that with huge advantages he has been able to exploit his advantages.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:46 AM ^
Right. "Genius" and "scumbag" aren't two ends of the same scale - a guy can be both.
October 27th, 2020 at 11:17 AM ^
It’s not a binary choice. You can be both a fantastic coach and a scumbag. In fact, the two often go together.
October 27th, 2020 at 9:41 AM ^
And again!
October 27th, 2020 at 9:59 AM ^
That's a 15-yard penalty, right?
October 27th, 2020 at 11:12 AM ^
yes, i believe it was..... sideline interference.
I bet the line judge wished he had some hand sanitizer in his pocket after that.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:45 AM ^
Why? He is right. We've been delusional for years. And don't forget, he had an out in his contract when at Utah, to coach here...
October 27th, 2020 at 11:26 AM ^
I honestly never knew that. I knew he always said that ND would be his "dream job", but I didn't realize we were part of that contract "out" clause. Man...really makes you wonder what could have been...instead of the rise of OSU under Tressel and then Meyer, it could have been us on the national stage.
October 27th, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
In 2004, most any coach at Utah would have had an out to go to nearly any Power 5 team. That's probably how he ended up at Florida, where he really had no established connections. I'm not sure how many Power 5 openings there were going into 2005 season, but Meyer has said that he choose Florida because its roster was way better than Notre Dame's. Had Carr chosen to retire after 2004, yes there's a good chance that Meyer would have looked at the roster and said "hey, I'm going to Michigan". He probably would have had similar options at USC, Texas and a dozen other schools, if they had openings.
October 28th, 2020 at 5:24 AM ^
Harlan, if that is your dream job don’t you take it regardless of the roster?Unless UF was offering twice the dollars’. Not saying he didn’t I just don’t remember him being offered the job @ ND when he took the Florida job.say what you want about ND, they don’t make exceptions like other programs do for borderline academics. Meyer was all about national championships imo. Hard to do that when you can’t even consider top 100 players with a 2.2 gpa. Much more liberal admissions @ a land-grant school.
October 27th, 2020 at 5:48 AM ^
What a revelation. He is earning his analyst pay.
October 27th, 2020 at 8:45 AM ^
Urban approves? Great, now I can sleep at night.
October 27th, 2020 at 1:14 PM ^
Hahaha, exactly what I thought when I saw this thread, I actually saw it on the B1G Show yesterday.
I was like yippee ki yay mother fucker!
October 27th, 2020 at 10:06 AM ^
I hate Urban Meyer, but I have to admit he's a good analyst. The segments where he breaks down an offensive/defensive concept are so well-explained that even a dummy like me can understand it.
October 27th, 2020 at 10:55 AM ^
I admit I'd like Urban Meyer a lot more if he'd been an analyst ever since he'd left Florida.
October 27th, 2020 at 11:13 AM ^
his 'health reasons' come and go with the contract offers
October 27th, 2020 at 12:29 PM ^
And the public knowledge of his various scandals.
October 27th, 2020 at 5:53 AM ^

two penalties. . . six fucking yards. .. . and one "Oh my goodness" by Chris Fowler. . .

I have to wonder if Urban is getting tired of the TV role. Coaching and being in the thick of CFB competition is in his DNA, and here he is, sitting at home and offering opinions (not that they are ill-founded) to a chucklehead on FOX. My bet is that he will be coaching somewhere, away from the B1G, in the next couple of years. Think MSU will be interested in that timeframe?
October 27th, 2020 at 7:29 AM ^
Why would Urban consider MSU?????
October 27th, 2020 at 7:39 AM ^
He will replace Saban next year and win 10 straight NCs-and this might not be a joke.
October 27th, 2020 at 7:42 AM ^
I could see Meyer coaching again but I am not sure MSU could afford him. Buying out Tucker and paying Urban would be an insane amount of money.
October 27th, 2020 at 7:58 AM ^
Money has nothing to do with it
October 27th, 2020 at 8:18 AM ^
If he coaches again I bet it would be out west and by that I mean Cali
October 27th, 2020 at 1:19 PM ^
Don't count out Texas if they drop Herman, would be just like Urbs to take the job, and win National Title in 2 years as a big FU to Herman.
October 27th, 2020 at 2:27 PM ^
Thats true, I could certainly see Urbs at Texas
October 27th, 2020 at 2:28 PM ^
Thats true, I could certainly see Urbs at Texas. He would recruit top 5 talent every year too
October 27th, 2020 at 8:23 AM ^
They could just cut their Field Hockey and Track and Field teams to offset the money. They've already shown they will cut lesser sports to feed the football payroll.
October 27th, 2020 at 9:38 AM ^
Not to mention the drugging, kidnapping, brainwash/mind control operations can't be cheap.
October 27th, 2020 at 7:57 AM ^
My cursor was on the upvote button until you said MSU. If Meyer returns to coaching it will be at a blue blood program. Never in a million years would he coach at MSU.
October 27th, 2020 at 8:14 AM ^
I am assuming this was humor on your part. Meyer will end up at a TX, USC, FL/Miami, etc. He will walk into a recruiting hotbed and own it from day 1.
October 27th, 2020 at 8:30 AM ^
I agree with your assertion here. I sort of doubt Florida would have him back but the other three, and I could see Alabama too, and UCLA would be real options. As despicable as he is in character he is one helluva football coach.
October 27th, 2020 at 8:38 AM ^
If Meyer let it be known that he'd be interested in Florida State, the boosters in Tallahassee would be tumescent with joy.
I bet the same thing would be the case in Austin.
While it's not exactly a blueblood, Tennessee is vastly underperforming—it's close enough to the recruiting southern hotbeds to have no real trouble getting recruits, it's got a huge stadium, and it's the major football power in the state.
