Dawson is starting LT right now as well. Mags and LTT out for spring it appears. Hadn't heard about LTT before. Hope he's alright. Could use that huge body of his.

It sort of makes sense to go with the 4-3 Over if Ross would play at SAM and Jake Ryan at MIKE. Was their any indication of who might be at WILL for the time being?
I have to say, I had a feeling that Funchess might end up as a WR since the role change seemed to work out well overall this past season. That's actually a pretty good move, I think.

Looks like Desmond Morgan at WILL. Same three starters, they just played a little musical chairs.

I thought he was drafted by the Spurs. He may not be eligible to go pro in football this season, but he's fair game in basketball.

Heitzman has moved to TE, but who knows if he can catch passes.
I don't see Ian Bunting coming in having the same impact that Butt had.
February 25th, 2014 at 7:12 PM ^
If Butt really is back by the third game maybe they'll just put Funchess at TE as needed. They've got a good number of WRs on the roster and I would think they would want to redshirt Bunting to keep a log jam from developing there.

Khalid Hill is also an option. I think they can make do with the guys they have (Williams, Paskorz, Hill, Heitzman, Bunting) until Butt comes back.

I'd throw Shallman in there since he has now officially been moved to H-back, meaning he'll likely play a TE-type role.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:33 AM ^
I've been saying since Shallman signed his LOI that he's got much more of a future as TE than he does running the ball. For a RB, he's slow-footed, but as a TE he's potentially a force.

True. To add to what you said, we don't even really know if Coach Nuss is going to heavily feature 2 TE sets.
We will have AJ Williams to be the primary blocking TE. Maybe the U/H back guys get used in the new offense.

Hmm. So the starting LBs just all changed positions...Interesting...
February 25th, 2014 at 7:06 PM ^
Alright, well you know what this means right? Someone has to now do a diary explaining the intricacys of the 4-3 over defense and how it differs from the under in terms of responsibilities and duties required of each player, and who the 'ideal' type player is at each position. Ready, go! Someone who is not me.
February 25th, 2014 at 7:12 PM ^
I searched after the front page post mentioned the 4-3 over, but I couldn't really find explanation for what type of player fits where.
We need a ELI5 post for the 4-3 over.

Thanks for the reply before I caught my mistake. Now my total botching of the word 'intricacies' is there for everyone to point and laugh at. Douche. Just kidding. But not really.
February 25th, 2014 at 7:06 PM ^
I think we should employ the "all weight changes are good" logic to position changes.
February 25th, 2014 at 7:20 PM ^
I agree...if its broke you must fix it!

Oh snap!! You just name dropped a source, son!
Kudos to the inside info though. Is 'they're going to run the over' mean they're actually going to run it as the base, or is it more along the lines of Borges' 'we're going to keep spread concepts in the offense?'

I'll correct you without being a dick about it: it's WR corps.
February 25th, 2014 at 8:19 PM ^
I think he was talking about their abs.

OMG shirtless
February 25th, 2014 at 10:57 PM ^
Couldn't he have meant core as in key contributors of the position group?
If our three most talented and most productive WRs are all ~6'5" and then we also had a half dozen 5'8" slot ninjas, wouldn't our *core* still be taller than the norm?

I dont see this mentioned anywhere but apparently Gardner is a full go at spring practice now

I'm honestly most excited to see how Shallman looks. I don't know much about Douglas and whether he can be a boost to the RB position, the linebacker changes are going to probably look sloppy at first, and Heitzman to TE is hardly a "wow" move. Not to say that I doubt the changes, but I think Shallman could be pretty damned productive from the H-back spot.
