PSA - Incoming Weather
Mates,
Out of nowhere there is a pretty serious line of storms coming across a substantial part of the state. I am watching a pretty epic lightning storm up north and it'll be worse downstate. Anyway, FYI and be mindful if you're in that area. Looks like a gully-washer, combined with winds and some serious lightning.
of course the graphic didn't come through on the OP. suffice it to say it is non-stop lightning flickering across the entire horizon, lighting up it like day time, and the distant rumbling is non-stop as well.
be safe.
About 20 years ago i was working as a counselor at Camp Hayo-Went-Ha on Torch Lake which is just NE of Traverse City. One evening a few of us were able to watch the most amazing lightning storm work its way up the lake from the Boat House balcony. Just spectacular. One of those memories that jumps out at you because it is so vivid. Huge lightning strikes every few minutes striking the lake and others hitting Lake Michigan over the hill on the other side of the lake. it was both gorgeous and impressive in its ferocity.
I get by there., or close to it, pretty regularly. Love those storms you can see for miles as they approach and watching over water is the best because of the clear horizon.
That sounds like it was awesome. One of the great pleasures in life in my opinion is sitting outside on an early summer evening and watching an approaching thunderstorm. One of nature's great spectacles. Of course, you also have to know when to get inside and seek cover!
Living in Los Angeles I miss a good house shaking thunderstorm.
as documented earlier: you californians get your shakes below the foundation
i'll stick with a good old thunderstorm any day.
One of my most favorite things ever is a lightning storm . Its just so beautiful to watch .
I love a good lightning storm too, but this has the look of 'hide the women, children, and livestock ' fearsomeness.
Thanks for the warnings, XM, but it doesn't appear to be headed for my neck of the woods here in the SW corner of Michigan.
In the meantime, take cover.
Ty for the xtra heads up.
Was able to watch a storm come across Lake Michigan once. Lot of wind and lightning. Pretty cool. Drinking some St. Pauli Girl in honor of Franz Wagner.
Much ado about nothing in my neck of the woods.
I was thankful not to lose power during this heat wave.
we had the power still going out for tiny bits this morning, but not enough to get the house generator to kick on.
I like lamps and scotch
Stay safe out there last night!
We're getting a 'do over' on the serious storms today- big nasty red line coming over the lake.
rig for danger!
