How bad were the matchups last year that Michigan got selected twice?

I believe Penn State we were 6-1 and still thought of to be decent, the only other ranked game was USC-Notre Dame, but that was on NBC so it probably was out. Wisconsin was the only ranked matchup of the week and at the time Michigan was 8-2.

I just realized that I was at several of these games and somehow never got myself even close to my 15 seconds of national fame. I kind of feel like a loser in a way now.

I was at the Gameday location at EL in 1997. Trust me when I say the true losers were the ones trying to get their 15 seconds of fame. It was so bad that Chris Fowler left his chair during a commercial break and threatened the crowd to send in the police if they kept throwing crap at the studio set.

I worked the Gameday show in 99 in EL. I thought it was odd that the set was in the end zone and not somewhere outside of the stadium. The one time they used the prison to keep the inmates out.

15 seconds? Isn't it more something like 1.5?

Last year's Penn State loss sure was an ass reaming. I think that probably hammered our recruiting as much as anything else.

To be fair, we were ranked lower in all those previous games.

A little OT, but there were lots of whiny SEC fans (is that being redundant?) last week because Game Day was in Ann Arbor instead of Baton Rouge. But it made sense because:
- to my knowledge, ESPN generally goes to a school location not more than once per season (no matter how many times the visitor has been on)
- the same Ann Arbor/Baton Rouge conflict will occur on 11/3, and (especially now) Alabama at LSU looks like a 'bigger' match-up nationally speaking than PSU at Michigan.
- Baton Rouge is generally a safer choice in November than Ann Arbor weather-wise, which means better crowds, etc.
- ESPN is ABC owned - why not promote the location for the game you are showing that night?*
- Herbstreit and Fowler were doing the night game in AA, so no transportation worries like you'd have if they'd been in Baton Rouge and had to get to Ann Arbor by evening.
- Frankly, Michigan is a bigger brand nationally than LSU (while arguably the SEC brand is bigger than the B1G brand currently), and it's in ESPN/ABC's interest to keep the attention of audiences in the north and the midwest relevant as long as they can.
*The Notre Dame location for the opener was an exception (was going to be broadcast on NBC), but it was the opener; with two big name brands; certainly the biggest game of the day; in a northern location where the weather was more likely to be bearable at the beginning of September; close enough to airports in Chicago that transportation to the evening game would not be a problem.

Anyway, where Game Day chooses to situate it's program has no effect on the players or the outcome of the game that day or night.
However, I will concede that it has an effect on the atmosphere of the whole game day experience for fans, and how the fans feel about the day when their team and school are in a national spotlight.
