Phoenix Travel Advice

Submitted by Lionsfan on

The last few years we've had more than a few threads with advice for anyone going to the bowl game. So I'm asking any West Coast people on here if you've got any advice for Phoenix?

Bars? Restaurants? Clubs? Shopping? Places to see? Places to stay? Places to avoid?

I like the Yard House in Scottsdale's Fashion Square. It has about 100 beers in tap and the appetizers - really like the Spring rolls - are really good. Also like Blue Adobe Grill in Mesa (not far from Tempe).

Cowboy Ciao, in Scottsdale has a world class wine list and very good food for a fair price. If you're serious about food and wine, this is the place.

Forgive me.

An earlier post noted a few good restaurants in downtown Phoenix (Bianco, Rose and Crown), but there are literally dozens of other really good options downtown (Windsor, ST. Francis, the Parlor, Carly's, Sit-Stay).  While I wouldn't choose PHX for bar hopping, the hotels there are significantly less expensive than those in Scottsdale/Tempe.  In addition, the light rail line goes directly to Sun Devil Stadium (and the Airport for that matter).  I'm not saying it is for everyone, but certainly an option for a clean hotel and decent dining/entertainment/cultural options. The Team will either be staying at the Hyatt Gainey Ranch in Scottdale, or they will be at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass south of Phoenix on the Gila River Indian reservation. Both are very nice resorts, but neither is in great location for those wthout their own transporation. WHP is especially remote, though it does have a tribal casino next door. As noted above, DUI is Arizona's second preferred revenue stream behind tourism. FWIW, I think the band will be at the Arizona Grand or the Buttes (if DB allows them to make the trip).
