OT: Wimbledon Semis
Roger Federer is back in the Wimbledon final after beating Novak Djokovic 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The second semifinal today is the brit Andy Murray vs. Jo Wilfried Tsonga. Obviously the crowd will be rooting strongly for their countryman Murray, but he tends to choke in these situations.
Amazingly, Federer can regain the number 1 ranking by winning the tournament, a feat which not many thought possible at this stage in his career.
Come on Roger!
Rooting for a Federer/Murray final just to see an entire country have a 3 hour heart attack.
This is Murray's 4th straight Wimbledon semifinal appearances. The last two he lost to Nadal (who can blame him) and in 2009 he lost to Andy Roddick (can only blame yourself on that one). Let's see if he can get over the hump and get to the finals, where he would face Federer, to whom he has lost 2 Grand Slame Finals to. An Englishmen hasn't even appeared in the Wimbledon Finals since before WWII !!!! Alot of demons that Murray could exorcise today.
Murray is actually Scottish. The joke among the fans at Wimbledon is "If he wins he's British, if he loses he's a Scot."
Didn't know that. Sucks for the English.
Eh, if he wins on Sunday, fans will probably forget all that and sing this song:
Roddick was playing some of the best tennis of his career at Wimbledon in 2009. That's the final where he gave an in-his-prime Federer absolutely everything he could handle.
Roddick's backhand has always been his Achilles backhand. It's just a punchback in the hope that he can run around a forehand. It never really materialized.
Andy Roddick's serve is just insane. I think he still holds the record of fastest serve at 155 MPH.
Ivo Karlovic broke that record at 156 MPH. But it also looks like some young dude served in the 160s just this year. That is wild.
If Federer wins the final and regains the #1 ranking at his age it would be pretty damn remarkable, especially considering Nadal and Djokovic are going to also go down as greats.
I don't think Roger should be the number one if he wins Wimbledon, but he just might be simply because Nadal (who won Rolland Garros) shockingly lost in the second round of Wimbledon. Either way, Novak will not be the number one player any longer until he wins a few smaller tournaments or the U.S. Open in August.
What time is Murray Tsonga? tyia
It's always such a pain figuring out match schedules in tennis for some reason
Unfortunately, it just ended half an hour ago. The match started at about 16.00 BST (11 am EDT).
Finals are at 9 am EDT Saturday (women) and Sunday (men).
