HTTV release party

Submitted by Blazefire on

I just wanted to say thank to everyone who came out to Underground Printing today for the HTTV release event. A number of people showed up, including the full MGoStaff, and it was great to meet them all. Were you there? Post your notes if you were. My notes:

Brian seemed less hairy than expected. I think Troy Polamalu stole his suave.

Most of the staff brought their wives. They were wonderful ladies and fantastic conversationalists. Plus, the MGoStaff could totally coach at Vanderbilt. Whoo!

I'm trying to remember everyone I met. I know that Brian, Ace, Heiko, Chewer_D, Misopogon, Misopogal, LSAClassof2000 and M-Wolverine were there. Lots and lots of other too that I know I'm forgetting. I wish I didn't have to run off so fast. We could've all wandered over to the Jug for a round.

brian is nice, and sort of awkward in the way that all of us would be awkward if we had to stand in a retail space while a large number of people who effectively stalk our internet personae were milling about, taking turns coming over to have detailed conversations about the many ways we might realize we actually know who they are, and/or demanding autographs. i really wasn't prepared for unassuming niceness to be a more prominent feature of his personality than sarcasm, so that threw me a bit. but his music preferences make more sense to me now.

i think that's the last noteworthy thing i learned.

That I didn't go over and talk to him more, when I talked to everyone else quite a bit. But I figured he had enough on his plate. And he seems like a guy who if he knows you will chat your ear off, but isn't big on stranger chat or being a "celebrity". So I wasn't avoiding you Brian. Never got to ask him and his wife how much they get for web clicks, and if I managed to cover their honeymoon, though....

Thanks everyone who came out. I saw M-Wolverine and Blazefire and kept wanting to talk to you guys but there was a lot going on. Everyone else I think I made it around to. Folks were conversing so well we just canned the Q&A. I think after this we all felt a little more comfortable with the idea of MGoEvents, either in town or out. Not all cities will be feasible and we can only do a few a year, but contact your local alumni groups to get in touch with me if you want to do something.

I was kinda quiet and didn't stay too long, just long enough to pick up my book, tell brian thanks, and get to know a couple other people... anyway, I wanted to ask Brian and I also wonder all of your opinions on the fact that Denard Robinson graces the cover and yet he doesn't get a cent.   This we know, but my question was:  how much did mgoblog people have to pay the university to use the pictures and create the guide?

I have no idea how it works with licensing, does anyone here know?

thanks,

jdon

The photos were all covered under fair use. The university's involvement was limited only to credentialing our reporters and our/Ann Arbor Observer's photographer. Their return is the increased excitement and depth of fandom that we bring to them. If you read the book you're more likely to support the football program after.

How in the hell did I go to this event, and somehow not meet Blazefire, Section One or LSAClassof2000? I feel like I failed.

But I had fun anyway.

Just stopped by to say hi to Brian and see how he was doing, pick up an early HTTV, and check out Underground Printing which I hadn't seen previously.
