OT: Minnesota LB Gary Tinsley found dead in dorm room

A sad day for the Gophers. It's always awful to see this happen, especially to such a young kid.
I wish they gave more information in stories like these, such as cause of death.
My guess is unless it's absolutely apparent (and possibly even then...), they don't release that until they conduct an autopsy in situations like this. I'm sure it'll come out soon enough.
That info isn't always apparent even to the people who do the investigating. For example, it was widely assumed that Whitney Houston had died for drug-related reasons, but it wasn't until weeks later that they concluded that she drowned in her bathtub (for drug-related reasons).
These things do make a difference. What if there were drugs in the room? But then, what if they later determined that while the guy took something his death was actually due to a congenital heart defect, and he wasn't a heavy user?
I wish there were more info, but the truth will come out.
(directed at AAAMICHFAN):
You don't strike me as someone who works in medicine, but there is a reason they don't do this. It's impossible to know the cause immediately. Even if they are surrounded by beer cans, you don't know what exactly failed in their system. That's why they wait to release any details, IF they release any. They have to perform an autopsy, tox screen, etc etc etc.
Unfortunately this happens every off season at some school or other. Its really sad to see. RIP. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
Thats tough, after all the mistakes he made he turned the corner for the better and then this. Sad to see.
The reports here in the Twin Cities are that he was found in his dorm room, his heart had stopped, and they couldn't revive him.
Tinsley was a good guy and a senior leader for the team. It's just another setback for what seems to be an eternally snakebitten football program.
But when older people die...meh
Wow I wish there was a way to prevent these things from happening.
Unfortunately there isn't.
In theory, you could put an AICD (automated implantable cardioverter-dibrillator) in everyone, but the morbidty (adverse events assoc with implantation) would be higher than the lives saved.
Best wished to the young man's family and the Gophers.
What a loss. Wish the his and the greater Gopher family the best.
I think of his family at this time.
Sad day for Minny, the B1G, and the student body everywhere. It was always a dark week when someone died at the University I went to.
It is very tragic to see any life cut so tragically short, especially as Tinsley was trying to make a break with his past and make a go of the future. Condolences to his family and the University Of Minnesota community.
Prayers go out to the Tinsley family, on and off the field.
Rest in peace. I hope his family is okay.
very scary, and so very sad.
thoughts and prayers for his friends and family.
Awful to see this happen, especially since I myself am a 22 year old college student. Best wishes to your family, in such a difficult time.
Whoever is tagging everything as "funny" needs to stop. Can't believe some people on here..
It just stings that much more when the person is so young. Love and prayers to the Tinsley family and the University of Minnesota community as a whole.
Condolences and best of luck to the Tinsley family, the Minnesota football team and all of those affected by this tragedy. RIP Gary Tinsley. My only hope is that this doesn't turn out to be a tragedy that could have been avoided.
