U-M officially out of the running for Zach Banner
He's been considered a long shot for awhile, but still has shown up in some U-M recruiting discussions. It's from the horse's mouth now--we're out. His top three is Washington, Oklahoma, and USC. Michigan "wasn't for [him]."
Would've been nice to have a true left tackle. I'm excited about Garnett, but it sounds like he's anticipating playing guard in college.
Funniest quote: "[Norman] was a good city."

Moment he visited Oklahoma.

Now though. He's a beast, on and off the field.

Garnett or Diamond, please!

Fer' sure!
Very unfair to have to view what little AA offers compared to Norman. They have the sky, crops, and even have surries with fringe on the top. Plus if you consider the proximity to KC, well "everything's just up-to-date in Kansas City!"
AA just pales in comparison after a vist to Oklahoma! We never had a chance!

Damn, I really wanted him badly. I'm praying Magnuson can get garnett here.
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:28 PM ^
I think your forgetting Magnuson and Kalis?
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:31 PM ^
Yeah, maybe. People who know more than me seem to think that Kalis is going to be a dominant guard and that Magnuson is best suited for right tackle. I'm really excited for both of those guys, but I was getting greedy and hoping for blue chips across the line.
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:49 PM ^
When Shane is our QB, it'll be probably be better if Magnuson is a RT because he'll be Shane's blindside.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:59 PM ^
When they refer to Magnuson being a better at RT they mean he's better at not protecting the blindside and more of a road grader. He would play LT if/when Shane starts and RT if a righty starts.

6-8 guards nowadays, huh?
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:32 PM ^
What do you mean?
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:36 PM ^
Lewan should have 2 more years left, so we can get our Prototyple Lefty guy next year and be fine. and who is to say magnison can't be Left, in college guys who should be on the right in he NFL play Left all the time just because they are the best tackle on the team
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:38 PM ^
but I'm sure the NFL will be calling after next season.
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:36 PM ^
Magnuson can play left tackle. I think he would be better on the right, but we have options.
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:41 PM ^
Ben Braden anyone?
January 2nd, 2012 at 2:24 PM ^
I think he's a strongside tackle.
Let's keep in mind that our general idea of "left tackle" and "right tackle" might be flip-flopped if/when Shane Morris, a left-hander, becomes our quarterback.
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:41 PM ^
Braden has looked very good and wouldn't be shocked if he played RT. Any truth to that?
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
He has gained some weight during the season, and has great size to be a dominant RT.
January 2nd, 2012 at 3:01 PM ^
he's beaten the "Braden has the feet and size to be a LT" drum several times this year
January 2nd, 2012 at 3:18 PM ^
I get the feeling that Sam Webb often overhypes University of Michigan recruits and in-state prospects.
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:42 PM ^
Play center. Extremely versatile.
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:41 PM ^
He has a great future ahead of him. A guy of his size will dominate! He is a player i'll still have my eye on throughout his career.
Best of luck to him

Whenever I see Zach Banner I think about his great grandfather.
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:48 PM ^
it wouldn't be a surprise.
January 2nd, 2012 at 2:36 PM ^
Aww i was hoping for the .... Michigan wraps up a "Banner" year in recruiting post. Best of luck to Banner where ever he ends up. No hard feelings I'm still amped over Garnet or Diamond to finish off the O line this year

Magnuson-Kalis-Stacey-Bars-Braden
Toss Garnett in there and I think Bars becomes the utility OL ala Schofield.

It's a little early to start putting these guys up there w/ the jake longs/hutchinsons.
But it is nice to imagine an all big ten line that will give our pro style QB all day to pick apart Ds and hit out pro style WRs.
o and MANBALL too
January 2nd, 2012 at 6:34 PM ^
If we get Garnett, I think Kalis would play strongside guard and Garnett would be the backside/pulling guard. Not that it really matters, because there will probably be some redshirts and injuries involved (although I hope no injuries), but Garnett is more mobile so I'd put him on the run instead of Kalis.

I highly doubt this line will ever play together as a whole. Guys will leave early, and there will be guys like Chris Bryant, who I think becomes a starter...and then we'll have younger guys from the '13 and '14 classes that will push for PT.
