Heisman Trophy Ceremony Open Thread (& Marinovich Project after)
December 10th, 2011 at 7:30 PM ^
I'm waiting until after the hockey game to watch the Marinovich Project.
As for the Heisman...not interested.
December 10th, 2011 at 7:32 PM ^
I think everybody knows that RGIII is going to win. People are hyping this up way to much and saying it's a hard year to chose when it shouldn't even be close. Robert Griffin is by far the best choice.
December 10th, 2011 at 7:36 PM ^
Best choice doesn't win the Heisman that often and I don't think RG3 is near the lock you are saying he is.
If he wins, I'll enjoy watching it since it represents a crumbling of the ridiculously unfair BCS title game wall the moron voters have put up around the trophy.
December 10th, 2011 at 7:55 PM ^
I must be reading something else because I never said he was a lock at all. I said it shouldn't be close because he's by far the best but that doesn't mean it won't actually be close. I also said I think everybody knows he'll win considering every prediction out there agrees with me. That doesn't mean I think he's a lock though.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
I wouldn't be shocked if Luck wins, because so many folks that vote for these things are fricken clueless and probably haven't even seen them all play.
December 10th, 2011 at 7:33 PM ^
Pretty close. RG3 wins. Richardson 2nd then Luck
December 10th, 2011 at 7:35 PM ^
....that I am much more interested in "The Marinovich Project"?
December 10th, 2011 at 7:39 PM ^
Not at all. I think most of us would rather see it
December 10th, 2011 at 7:39 PM ^
How about saying that I'm more interested in F5-ing the photobomb thread?
December 10th, 2011 at 7:42 PM ^
30 for 30/ESPN Films has lost a lot of luster for me. It's really become overproduced and overdramatic. Some of the musical choices are embarrassing and play like a Michael Bay parody.
Also doesn't help that a few of the recent editions were very Boston-slanted (not surprising given you-know-who's involvement).
December 10th, 2011 at 7:45 PM ^
posted a comment with a generally positive tone?

Wonder if the ESPN crew has their tissues ready in case Richardson doesn't win it

If Denard plays like he did in the last couple of games, I don't only think Denard has the best chance to get there but I think he wins the whole damn thing. His passing was pretty damn good and with the addition of running back yardage on the ground, he'd be a lock. Problem is him keeping that up.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:03 PM ^
If Michigan has the year we want/expect them to have - just being the quarterback on that team will make him a contender - and the same for Fitz just by being the running back. His numbers are important for the award - but secondary to the number of wins we have.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:04 PM ^
If Denard is to win it...
December 10th, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
He wins by being the leader of a team that wins a lot of games. He starts that by shocking the world on a national stage. Woodson and Desmond dominated games and made big plays on the biggest stages. Denard started that at the end of the year. He's got to do it all year.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
I agree with this. He needs a breakout performance to set the tone for the season. He'll also need another huge OSU game and we'd have to win that as well.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
Nah, Fitz has almost no chance. Barring a ridiculous year stats wise, the answer has to be Denard 100%. The Heisman is much more about the hype you have surrounding you. Denard's the more exciting player to watch and the story surrounding every Michigan game for the rest of the country is how Denard does. That's the kind of hype you need.
December 10th, 2011 at 7:52 PM ^
It's a sham regardless.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
so much hate for the Heisman? If RG III wins, they will have actually gotten it right this year (unless you're a big Honey Badger fan, who has an incredibly strong case as well).
December 10th, 2011 at 8:29 PM ^
It's just a silly popularity contest. A huge portion of the voters don't watch many games, so they're essentially told who to vote for by the highlight shows.
The Most Outstanding Player in college football isn't always the best quarterback or running back on the best team. It's just an impossible question to answer. I think it's resonable to have some fun by picking the best players on each team to create All-American teams, but picking anything close to the best player in the country as voted on by an amalgamation of people who may not even watch more than one game a week is silly.
December 10th, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
Contest, as one of the cool kids we can hardly complain. If Denard has a statistically similar season to RGIII's next year, he'll win the Heisman.
December 10th, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
Y'all are bitchin about The Heisman??
<br>Were you bitchin when Desmond and Woodson won it?
December 11th, 2011 at 2:20 AM ^
Denard needs to one-up RGIII's superman socks. He has his work cut out for him.
December 10th, 2011 at 9:49 PM ^
There are far too many voters and from too many levels of media. When half the staff at 97.1 says "this is who I voted for in the Heisman" instead of "this is who I would vote for," you know there's a problem.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
Sara Walsh. Not really my type, but kinda WOW. Where'd she come from?
December 10th, 2011 at 8:02 PM ^
No kidding!!! Many more possible "Erin Andrews" waiting in wings I think!!
December 10th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
I'm going to go take a shit for 50 minutes. I know I won't miss anything.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
So, yeah, basically, nothing.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:03 PM ^
Based on stats but I'm about to puke if RG3 wins...Baylor? 3 losses? JOKE
December 10th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
Can't tell if serious? RGIII did about everything you could ask for and more. You're basically saying someone shouldn't win the heisman because they have a mediocre defense...
December 10th, 2011 at 8:12 PM ^
In a league that doesn't play a damn lick of defense. (See Oklahoma State). Ball put u 38 tds in a defensive league. #bigdifference
December 10th, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
for playing in a league that's never smelled an offense?
December 10th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
He will be
December 10th, 2011 at 8:13 PM ^
Dude, none of those players play two ways. Baylor's defense is Michigan 2010 bad.
I remember listening to EDSBS Live a few years ago and Peter Bean, one of the co-hosts and a Texas fan, was telling everyone every week to figure out ways to watch Baylor play because this Freshman named Robert Griffin was amazing. After watching him, he's as close as anyone has come to being Vince Young since he left college.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
Deserve it last year either. You have to win (and win big)
December 10th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
Denard didn't deserve it last year because he wasn't nearly good enough.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:21 PM ^
who is your pick?
December 10th, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
Statistically, he's been the MOST dominant
December 10th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
He's a product of his offensive line and many could fill his place. That's the reason everybody puts Richardson over Ball, because Richardson has great stats still while being irreplacable.
I keep thinking about Barry Sanders though and his amazing yardage. Nobody for awhile has even sniffed his single season rushing record (though I wish they included the bowl game as well) except Kevin Smith at UCF a couple years ago.
December 10th, 2011 at 8:29 PM ^
Griffin 2011 stats
3998 yards 36 tds 6 ints 72.4 completion % 192.3 QB rating 644 rushing yards 9 tds
team record: 9-3
Denards 2010 stats
2570 18 tds 11 ints 62.5 % 149.6 rating 1702 rushing yards 14 tds
team record- 7-5
Griffin accounted for about 400 more total yards, 13 more touchdowns, 5 less ints, a much better completion percentage and Qb rating and more wins.

Is anyone else confused by the smooth Jazz music for this ceremony? Are they giving the Heisman away in an elevator?
