This has been a great statement series so far. Gotta finish the job tonight - Hunwick, no punching!

What a 180 from what we thought coming into the season. Most thought our defense would have to carry us while our offense found its footing. Instead, it's gonna be the other way around with Merrill out

Hey, U-M getting a PP opportunity!
October 28th, 2011 at 8:43 PM ^
Tripping on Wohlberg.

with Merrill out and to start a season off hot also, seems we seem to start slower most years. So only loss so far this year is without our top goalie and when he went out it was 0-0. Go Blue and keep up the great work.

Refs sending someone to the box.
Wait, they had a 1s PP. LOL.

FSU has now hit the post 3 times, but still no goals - we're getting a bit lucky here, but I'll take it.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brown with the laser! 4 - 0, and the rout is on!

getting the new recruit today and being a goalie is a huge pickup for the future.

Another post for them!!

Gametracker is showing 1-0 after the 1st period (for me at least).
Edit: Oh, look, they just woke up!

Seems like we're just putting it in cruise control here in the 3rd. Not too much adrenaline, just hanging on to the big lead.
October 28th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
Still taking too many penalties. Can't do that all season.

The overrated chant kinda made me cringe. Just last weekend U of M were the overrated ones.
October 29th, 2011 at 1:01 AM ^
"Over-rated" is a chant for fans of a bad team, and used when their bad team upsets a good team. "Over-rated" essentially means "you are better than us, but we beat you today." Michigan hockey fans do not chant "over-rated."

WOOOOOOO!!!! Sweep! Sweep!!
October 28th, 2011 at 9:50 PM ^
4 - 0 shutout, 9-2 goals for/against on the weekend, and Hunwick's second shut-out of the season. That's what I like to see on a Friday night!

Offense doing pretty well, putting 9 past a team that had been pretty stingy before these games.

Yeah, and the freshmen are getting their goals. Bodes very well for the future - both in the rest of this year and in years to come.

Good to see them stepping up and clearing out that uncertain feeling when you saw who left and didn't know what the new kids would bring.

We are. It's the same one that was at the Big Chill last year.

If you had told me Yost was going to get a goal horn, I would probably be pretty furious, and while I don't particularly like it still, making noise is what a crowd is (supposed to be, looking at you Michigan Stadium) for, but for having one, it's about as good as it can be. Not obnoxiously loud (may be a product of Yost's horrible sound system and upgrades will see an obnoxiously loud goal horn) and it stops in time for the band to play "The Victors" (at least it did on Thursday or my proximity to the band negated it).
If they're dead set on having a goal horn (and I'd still rather be rid of it, but it could be far worse) I'd like to have it be someone sounding Ufer's old scoring horn into a mic. It wouldn't be the greatest goal horn in the world, but Yost has the greatest crowd, it doesn't need the greatest (or indeed, any, but if they're going to insist...) goal horn and at least that way, that part of it would be uniquely Michigan.

Michigan Tech upsets #2 Denver 7-2 in Houghton. Wow. It would surprise me if Denver didnt win tomorrow, but still, VERY impressive by Mel and his boys. Mel Pearson is now 5-2 as the Head Coach of Michigan Tech with sweeps over American International (not a good team) and Wisconsin (good, but probably not their best year, so not that good) and one win so far against Denver (VERY good, or at least supposed to be) with the series closer tomorrow. All the wins are in Houghton and Tech got swept by Bemidji in Bemidji last weekend.
Denver puller their goalie with about 7!!!!!!! minutes left in third, down 4-1, Tech put 3 in the open net and Denver scored with a minute left to give the final margin. Denver had a 40-28 advantage in shots and is playing their freshman back-up goalie, because their real goalie is injured, but very nice win nonetheless.

Great to see Mel having early success. I'm still holding out hope that his time in Houghton is just to build his resume so that when Red finally retires, Mel can ride back in a a great white horse and lead us into a bright new day.

also, this is the first time I've seen the return of the block-M maize jerseys. They look real sharp. I was a fan of the diagonal "MICHIGAN" the last few years but these look pretty sweet too

I have to say I liked the Alumni band more than the usual pep band. More energy and a nice change of pace in songs (and, a bit more energy from the band director).
Like Brian I don't like that all of seniors are one end, The students on the north end are mostly silent. They've never really been particularly loud on that end, but this year it seems particularly bad.
