Ohio Running Back Alden Hill Offered by Michigan
Ohio running back Alden Hill (6'2", 220 lbs) planned on going up to Michigan's camp to prove to the coaches he was worthy of an offer. He was happy with his performance and so were the Michigan coaching staff. Hill called me today to let me know that he spoke with the coaches and they have offered him a scholarship. Here's a look at his film and what he said about the offer.
TOM: What did the coaches say?
ALDEN: I talked to Coach Hoke and he said that I have an offer to Michigan.
TOM: Did they tell you what role you would be playing, or what position you would have on the team?
ALDEN: They want me as an all purpose back, a full back and running back. Someone they don't have to change personnel if they switch plays out of the two back system. I'm definitely good with that role, it's good for competition. I actually just got an offer from Iowa too, so the Big Ten is starting to come in now.
TOM: What's next for you then, are you heading out to any other camps? Are you going to try to make it out to Iowa?
ALDEN: I haven't been to Iowa yet, but I'll be at Ohio State on Saturday. I'll go up there and workout because I know there will be other coaches there too.
TOM: What do you want your timeline to look like? How is your recruitment going to play out?
ALDEN: I'll probably make my decision early to mid football season, I'll have it done by then. I'll have it narrowed down by the time my season starts up.
TOM: With this Michigan offer now where does that put the Wolverines? Are they in your top group?
ALDEN: Oh definitely. They're in my top five with Illinois, Boston College, Vanderbilt, and Iowa now.
TOM: You have a few teammates that are also being recruited. I know Zach Higgins is committed to Michigan State and 2013 ATH Dymonte Thomas has a Michigan offer. Are you close with them?
ALDEN: Yeah, we are real good friends. I have been friends with Dymonte before he came to our school through sports. Dymonte, Zach, and I all stay close through this recruiting process because we can all relate in this unique situation. We would love to play together, not too many guys get to play with their teammates from division three high school to a division one college.
If we can pick up an elite linemen or two (Kalis and Banner) and say Diamond, then a running back like Hill. Man our 2011 class players will have plenty of holes to run through in the near future...
He seems like a wonderful human being. I tell by the way that he explodes out of his cuts...
REALLY? BRAEKING NEWS!!!
Just kidding. Sorry to be a jackass, but that happened last night.. There's a thread on the second page of the MGoBoard with about 300 comments if you wanna read about it
Love to have you!
Go blue!
And I'm impressed--he does not go down on arm tackles, very rugged back. His speed surprised me; Hill's got wheels on him. He must have impressed the hell out of coaches too to get that offer, given the limit in spots now. Askew is a great comparison--would love to have Hill go Blue.
I know people are going with B.J. Askew as a comparison for Hill, but the first name that popped into my head was actually a recent non Michigan guy: Toby Gerhart.
And lest I forget, Congratulations young man! We would love to have you be a part of the Michigan family!
To be a fullback. With the backfield we have right now, plus the coaching staff going after dunn in this class and his cousin dymonte thomas I just don't see any room for him the the RB position.
wouldn't it be even better if he can play both?
do you know who else was 6-2, 220 pounds?

OMG, if this guy could become the next A-Train. WOO. give me the chills just thinking about him pounding the rock....
I would love to see Hill join this class! On his way to UM, he can stop in Canton to pick up Dunn, Akron to pick up Wilson, and then head up to Lakewood to grab Kalis - grabbing Wormley as they come through Toledo. That would be a nice car full of commits! Then we just need a different car to bring Washington and Stanford and that's a beautiful 7 player grab from OH to put with the guys we already have.
As much as I hate Ohio, I would kneel down and kiss the ground in Ohio on signing day (instead of spitting) if the state delivered 10 of its top 25 to Ann Arbor.
Hopkins in the closest comparison on the roster but I think he looks more like the Falcon's Michael Turner myself, and I love me some Michael Turner. In that vid some of those tacklers bounced off of him like bowling pins and he has some speed as well. My guess is that his early three star ranking is due to him playing against generally less talented teams in division III.
"I haven't been to Iowa yet, but I'll be at Ohio State on Saturday. I'll go up there and workout because I know there will be other coaches there too."
That's awesome - he's going to tOSU on Saturday "because I know there will be other coaches there too." Love it!
His name is Alden Hill. He is the Stark County Player of the Year and he will not apologize for his tone tonight!
If he can catch the ball he may have a little Jarrod Bunch in him...Me thinks that's not a bad thing.
He's from Stark County, so we need to get Treasury Secretary Phil Davidson to inspire him to come to Michigan:
