I (am apparently fortunate to) live in an area where Midwest Energy (now MEC) provides fiber.  I have the $79.95 a month package which is awesome.  Along with a $40/month YouTubeTV subscription, I get all the channels I want streamed and have saved a bunch from what I was paying Comcast.

When did “disclude” replace “exclude “?  Coincidentally that’s also the point at which I stopped reading.

I totally get Painter as a candidate.  But is it better to be a mess and then have a strong turnaround, or (mostly) dominant from the start?

01/11/2019 - 1:14pm Until the team actually…

Until the team actually loses a game (and even after), there is really no reason to be so concerned about this team.  Does it have vulnerabilities?  Sure.  So does every other team.  This team is SO FUN TO WATCH if you stop worrying about exceeding expectations and just enjoy them.  They play defense.  They hustle.  They play together as a team.  They enjoy the journey.  We should too.

I used the app 99% of the time, and find that to be much superior to old MGoBlog, and still a bit superior to new MGoBlog.  The app interface was much cleaner (to me), easier to see and navigate  new posts and MgoBoard entries.   OTOH, I didn't post much, and didn't care about upvotes, downvotes, avatars, etc.

11/10/2016 - 2:49pm It would complicate

It would complicate calculations, but I wonder about a multiplier effect along the lines of: 1-8 point win (loss): 100% of your scale; 9-16 point win (loss) worth 110% of your scale; 17+ point win (loss) worth 120% of your scale. Could tinker with the values and the percentages, but the idea is to reward 2 score margins a little bit, and more than 2 score margins a little more than that.

09/20/2016 - 4:22pm I guess we will disagree

I guess we will disagree then. When you are down 15, until you attempt the 2 point conversion you don't know if you are down 2 scores or 3. When you are down 8, you don't know if you are down 1 score or 2. The sooner you know that, the sooner you can optimize your strategy for the rest of the game.

It was a coaching blunder to be in that spot in the first place. He should have gone for 2 earlier, and thus would be down either 7 or 9 at that point, making the punt/no punt decision much clearer.

I'm glad he challenged the premise of some of those questions, like asking Chris to run like Smith. And are they finding the holes. We say this every presser, but those questions are just lazy and lame. I'm glad they are questioning the premise and not taking the bait.

Sure, some are biased. But most, when they express it, are biased toward having an exciting game and/or upset. An exciting game is more interesting to call or comment on, and tends to increase or sustain viewership. Which is what professional analysts typically want.

Seems like maybe we could have used Bielfeldt, who with 12 minutes left against (granted) Rutgers, has 16 and 8 for Indiana.

12/24/2015 - 11:51am By your logic the maximum

By your logic the maximum score is 65%, and no grading on a curve, so he can't have a B. I disagree with your logic for now, although am eager to get back to a scale that can be based on it.

11/24/2015 - 8:12pm Before the season, if you had

Before the season, if you had to pick one conference to have four teams in the top 10, and the other conference to have one team in the top 10, I bet most people would have mixed up the SEC and the B1G.

I read most of his post as arguing incompetence, not malice. "A pile of dumb calls", as you aptly put it, is indeed incompetence in my book. I'll grant you no proof of malice, even if he won't, and still insist that incompetence should be dealt with.

10/13/2015 - 11:50am I cast an enthusiastic vote

I cast an enthusiastic vote for 2015, too. I also remember reading about seemingly scads of non-coach additions to the film breakdown team. I'd love to hear an update on that and how they contribute to the process of making this team so much more prepared.

09/16/2015 - 8:57am In other words the favorite

In other words the favorite is always listed as -n and/or the underdog is always listed as +n. Both mean the same thing. You can think of choosing the favorite and "giving" the underdog n points to add to their score to see who wins the bet.

"Cover" means that the favorite wins by enough to still win the bet after "giving" the points.

09/16/2015 - 8:44am Basically you are correct.

Basically you are correct. If you see a line like Michigan -34, that means you can bet on Michigan to win by at least 34 and "give" the points, or UNLV and "take" the points. A .5 line is used to break ties, e.g. If a line is Michigan -7 and they win by exactly 7 that is a "push" where neither side wins money (or depending on rules the "house" may win ties).
