I think you missed a real…

I think you missed a real opportunity here:

Association of Harbaugh apOLogistS: AHOLS?

That won't work. You need:

We really need to let some…

We really need to let some of these kids be on campus and do their thing. They know the risks. I mean, all of those budding soon-to-be-professional engineers really need their senior season on campus to show off their abilities and pull in that rookie contract. It isn't fair to them that they aren't allowed on campus to complete those design projects and demonstrate their abilities to potential teams. I mean, it seems to me that there are lots of problems in the world and the people that are best equipped to deal with the widest swath of them are engineers, and their needs should be prioritized.

Alright, so if this isn't all about money for the universities and the parasites that feed off of college athletics, why aren't people taking about the engineers, or the doctors, or the teachers in this way. We need to stop the deification of athletes and stop enabling universities and the athletic complex from taking advantage of them. Most of all, we all need to stop being selfish and start prioritizing actions that positively affect our community. It would be nice to watch football this fall. It would be nicer if people would stop dying from a virus that can be controlled by simply staying 6 feet away from other people.

This is a great idea. I'd…

This is a great idea. I'd really like to hear more soccer coverage. I'm ready to find a European team to get behind. Right now the only team I pay attention to is AFC Wimbledon and they don't get a lot of TV time being in league 1 and all.

I need a "So, you're looking for a new team" primer.

Also, in that time state…

Also, in that time state appropriations to higher ed has stagnated or declined, in today's dollars. EMU went from being 70% of the general fund being funded by the state to less than 30%. This has been the largest contributor to tuition growth.

Wearing a mask does make a…

Wearing a mask does make a difference as many studies have shown, including this latest one in which 2 symptomatic stylists that were wearing a mask did not infect any of their customers.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6928e2.htm

We choose to wear a mask not because our government tells us to, but because it is the right thing to do for your community and your country. If that means wearing a mask in public for the next year, or 2, or 5, then so be it.

Wow. Thanks for your…

Wow. Thanks for your generosity!

Biggest mistake that we made…

Biggest mistake that we made was not thinking about the investment potential of a first house. If I did it over again, I would have bought a duplex in a nice part of town, lived in it for a few years and rented the second unit. Then used the income to save up for the second house so that I could have kept the duplex as a permanent rental upon moving out to a second home.  I really wish we had done that in Ann Arbor in 2006 when we bought our first place.

Shhhh! Don't tell anybody

Shhhh! Don't tell anybody about Cultivate- its busy enough there as it is!

You don't have to wait until You don't have to wait until it's over. You can watch whenever but if the game is still going, you have to be careful when you start watching as it will be live and you might see the score or something. You just have to go and push the slider in the app back to the beginning of the game.
Interesting Washtenaw Food

Interesting Washtenaw Food article that I hadn't seen yet.  I have to take issue though.

Listen- you people just stay away from Taquerita La Torre.  It's busy enough as it is these days.  My tacos!  Mine.

I agree.  Go over to Reddit,

I agree.  Go over to Reddit, copy and paste relevant CSS/JS for formatting posts, and then figure out their ranking algorithm and copy that as well.

Do yourself a favor and plan

Do yourself a favor and plan ahead a bit to make Joe's Pepper Stout Beef (http://www.gobluebbq.com/2013/05/coming-soon-pepper-stout-beef.html).  I've made this 3 or 4 times now and it is a big crowd pleaser.  While it would be nice to have a smoker, I manage on my gas grill with wood chips direct on the flame.

Change every single diaper. Change every single diaper. People think changing diapers is the worst thing in the world, but the secret is its not that big a deal. If you change all of your kids diapers, your wife will think you are parting the red sea because she won't know any better. You'll be set for life.
One year old Midwestern

One year old Midwestern Saloon is also fantastic and has a properly unhealty midwestern food menu.  It's not Michigan only, but the owner is from Bay City and there should be a good sized Michigan crowd for the game.

Maybe you should just not use Maybe you should just not use IE.
I've spent the better part of I've spent the better part of 10 hours this week making my kid a minecraft Steve costume with diamond armor. Worked on it all afternoon today only for my buddy to send me pictures of the minecraft rack at Halloween City, or whatever it's called. Apparently it's possible to just purchase costumes! Who knew?

A couple more trips to Zion with the kids and my guess will be that park will own my top 5.

Ground tranportation- 51k.  I guess that's what it costs when you fly the students and make the staff drive.

Agricola with Trajan a very Agricola with Trajan a very close second.
We also ended up in Hartland

We also ended up in Hartland to save some money and because it was difficult to find the right spot in Ann Arbor.  Ours was outdoors at Waldenwoods Resort.

Patreon

It seems like mgoblog could also use Patreon.  It isn't only for youtubers and seems to be a very effective way of raising funds.  As a similar case study, the longform site waitbutwhy has done quite well using Patreon- they are bringing in over 13k/month.

Hmm- so you're saying we are

Hmm- so you're saying we are basically just like the OSU fans we love so much?

I had to double check to make

I had to double check to make sure I didn't miss like three games after reading the comments.  They have a losing streak of 1 game.  Let's give it some time before we all jump off the cliff.

As a faculty member at As a faculty member at Eastern that got to teach an all freshman seminar this semester, I was told by several students that during orientation, they were forced to go to a game.
"Gentlemen. When I first "Gentlemen. When I first started Reynholm Industries, I had only two things in my possession: A dream...and six million pounds. Now I have a business empire the like of which the world has never seen the like of which! I hope it doesn't sound arrogant when I say that I am the greatest man in the world."
Thumbs up on linking to a CGP Thumbs up on linking to a CGP Grey video, Seth!
Agreed with the addendum that Agreed with the addendum that the alpine lakes in American Fork Canyon are stunning. A bit chilly for anything but a quick jump in and out, but stunning nonetheless.
Wasatch beers are ok, but I Wasatch beers are ok, but I think Uinta Brewing has really taken over as the best Utah brewery. I highly recommend their Dubhe imperial black IPA.
London is big, so it depends

London is big, so it depends on where you are and how much you want to move around.  But I highly, highly recomend finding your way over to Bourough Market.  Wonderful, fresh, foods from many cultures around the world.  You can find plenty to eat on site, but also a lot to take with you.  It's amazing.  And, if you only want to snack at the market, there are some very nice restuarants in that area.  Right around the corner, Del Mercato is a very nice italian place that had the most authentic and best tasting pizza that I've had outside Italy.

I think the idea is that

I think the idea is that people pay taxes that go to funding these schools, so they should get a say in how the schools operate.  Though over the past few years, the state funding towards higher ed has decreased...

The next question to ask is why aren't the Regents at the other state schools voted on?  Instead, they are appointed by the Governor.  I can tell you as an employee of one of those schools, I would much rather the people vote.  Think about Eastern's Regents and their push for increasing spending on things like the football program over academics, given the history of the football program.  Would you want those guys pulling weight on decisions at Michigan?

Michigan Man It's great to see this site get some well deserved recognition. I was a little, I don't know, saddened? to see Schlissel say he feels like a Michigan Man. Can we please stop using that term! Michigan Man is a four letter word.
Yeah- it's a sign of

Yeah- it's a sign of incredible committment that you are able to continue to write compelling material at this point, Brian.  Seriously, thanks.

I've never really felt sick before when it came to sports.  Angry, sad, disengaged, sure.  But reading this, I felt sick.  It's Rutgers, and my gut thinks that Michigan is going to loose.  Oh man...

No points

Points- I don't have many, but I wanted to make sure folks on here saw this:

Well timed with the new #Eating campaign that's been given it's own thread below.

My first thought was that at

My first thought was that at least I'll have time to become a hit man before this series happens.

Yeah- I sort of figured with

Yeah- I sort of figured with the army of people working in the AD, you could easily have a few people keep an eye on things for a few hours per week.  I guess it's not worth the hastle to the department, but it's one of those smallish things that's made the program in general less special over the years.  At least to me.

The only "event" that I care

The only "event" that I care about is the AD unlocking the stadium so you could go run the stairs or just go inside with out forking over the kid's college fund like you could in the past.  Even if it's only open for an hour or two a day.  Am I the only person that still shakes my fist at the air when they think about this?

A grey field.  Makes me proud

A grey field.  Makes me proud to be on faculty at EMU.  I mean, what else could you do with that 500k?

Agreed.  It isn't the wins

Agreed.  It isn't the wins and losses or the quality of the team, but it is the product.  Games are much longer than they used to be, the music is loud and played often enough that it isn't easy to actually have a conversation in between plays, and the cost of tickets and food/water continues to increase.  At home, I have a bathroom, a fridge, all the free water I want, a comfortable seat and plenty of room to jump up and down or run around in circles when the game is exciting.  It gets harder and harder to get up to go to games every year- and it really sucks that that's the case.

I don't post a lot

but this is fantastic.  Thank you Heiko.  Thank you mgoblog.

My thoughts exactly.  It's

My thoughts exactly.  It's amazing how much less I can stomach in life now that instead of picturing myself enduring some sort of pain or tramua, I'm replaced by one of my sons in the mental pictures that come with these sorts of events.  No one prepared me for that before I had kids.  The worst thing that I can imagine in life is a life without them.

kids...

Yeah- I relalized a few weeks ago that had we not decided to have kids, I could have taken the 4 years worth of daycare money and bought that Porsche 911 that I've always wanted.  Oh well, at least I was able to upgrade from that 1986 VW Cabriolet a couple years ago anyway.

"Shock the World"

Is it possible that a current recruit would know the connection between this quote and the Fab 5? That's the first thing I thought of when I read the post, which made me think he was choosing Michigan, naturally.

I'm sorry if this is

I'm sorry if this is inappropriate, but are you "the Naked Man"?  I just happened to catch this episode tonight.

I know its sort of silly that

I know its sort of silly that we're playing them again, but I was glad they came to town last year.  I'm a Bradley alum, so when they came to Ann Arbor, the AD and president of the university came too and threw a pre-game party at Zingerman's Events.  I showed up in Michigan gear of course.

Got my Ph. D. in Space

Got my Ph. D. in Space Physics.  Went to every game as a grad student.  If you majored in physics, you should be smart enough to get your crap done and enjoy the thing you spent your hard earned money on.

I'd risk it

but be careful.  For my first born, my wife and I went to the hospital 3 hours before my Son popped out.  We (she) thought labor was going to be worse than it was, I guess, so she ended up doing most of the laboring at home, not really knowing it was real labor.  When she decided it was time to go in, we both thought that there was a good chance they were going to send us home.

With all the stories of 20 hours in the hospital, warm baths, and halking up and down the hallway, just know that it doesn't necessarily go that way.  Still, I think that you would be safe given that the due date is 3 weeks away.

Good luck!

I always struggle with how

I always struggle with how much to tip these guys as well, not to mention Olive Garden/ any take out place people.  I guess my thought process always goes, "ok, what's my first instinct", which is usually like $2 for a pizza guy, and then "well, if I give this person and extra $1, its probably going to make more of a difference to them than it is to me."  So I always just go with an extra buck or so.
