Grouchin'

MISCELLANEOUS WHAT WAS THAT TALKIN'

The press box while that was happening, and the stands.

OFFENSE

What's going on, Devin Gardner? THEORIES! We can't run. This is sad. It's bad and sad and bad.

DEFENSE

Frank Clark: what's up. And that goes for the rest of the defensive line. Pipkins isn't playing, and we don't get why. Why is Countess at nickelback if Michigan can't cover deep?

SPECIAL TEAMS

Guh? Guh.

TALKING BIG TEN WITH JAMIEMAC

Oh, Big Ten, you pick us up.

MUSIC

"Across 110th Street."
"Wreck of the Old 97," Johnny Cash. Yes, again. The second verse is applicable.
"Young Pilgrims," The Shins
"The Legionnaire's Lament," The Decemberists

Would be better if those guys in different color uniforms were not on our side of the line of scrimmage immediately following the ball snap.

Walk-on left guard, 3* center and 5* right guard don't seem to be helping out very much.  4* backup left guard can't seem to get ahead of the walk-on in the depth chart.

Coaches need to figure out a solution to these issues.

The problem is being understated a little bit here.  It's not that our RS Fr. right guard is outperforming some veteran lineman in order to earn his spot.  It's not as if our three star RS So. center is a diamond in the rough type player and taking a spot away from an upper-classman.  There isn't any experienced depth there.  We have children competing against other children for starting OL spots.  It's unfortunately going to take time to develope the talent at these positions in particular.

I actually came to the comments to say the same thing. The exchange basically went like:

Brian/Ace: "Why do the coaches do this?!"

Heiko: "Well, they do it because in practice-"

Brian/Ace: "We don't want to hear about it! Why are they making these decisions?!"

As much as this podcast, especially the defensive section, was all about not understanding why the coaches are making the decisions they're making, Brian and Ace seemed aggressively uninterested in learning more about why the coaches are maybe making these decisions.

Me as well - Brian and Ace cut off Heiko explaining the practice buzz to say we should look at the games, who cares about practice!  I would like to hear about it as it may inform why Thomas isn't in there, why Pipkins isn't getting a lot of snaps or why Lewis is playing as a true freshman, something that is not always clear just from the games.

If fact, I wouldn't mind a section of the podcast devoted to practice buzz or what Heiko has learned doing his actual reporting.

Oh, the podcast... Making shitty games sound slightly less shitty.

And for future reference, if a game like this happens again, I will be ok if you guys decide to talk NOT about the game. I hear 'Breaking Bad' is doing well on television.

Except that past events do, more often than not, correlate with future events.  If not, we should just stop worrying about global warming right now because we have no reason to believe CO2 levels will continue to rise.  In fact, everything will probably get a lot better all by itself!  Oh yeah, and we shouldn't expect Americans to become more tolerant of marijuana use any time soon either.  The fact that several states allow for medicinal use and some even have decriminalized it entirely does not in any way give credence to the idea that this trend will continue.  And don't worry about that rebellion in Syria.  Just because there is a rebellion today doesn't mean all of those violent people wont just go home tomorrow.  In fact, they probably will.

I'd posted this in another thread, but after listening to the podcast, and in a nod to Professor Quincy Adams Wagstaff, President of Huxley College, I'm inclined to think that it belongs here.

Stupid, callous, bad logistics – except they weren’t chokers,
Even though the final score stunned all the rankings brokers.
When the dust had finally settled on The Big House floor that day,
An awful loss to Akron’s Zips was one bad play away.

Just one week past a classic win that might’ve hurt The Gipper,
The Wolverines were sinking fast while playing on Yom Kippur.
Special teams just weren’t that; the line play smelled quite funky.
When Lewan was asked to comment, he called victory for some donkey.

Though Chesson got his TD catch, little else went well.
Gibbons’ field goal streak came to an end; Wile’s punting . . . let’s not dwell.
Michigan’s proud football team that recently was touted
Took a nasty fall from grace, as fans just sulked and pouted.

On the fourteenth of September, U-M football nearly tanked.
So Drew Sharp once again has kept the Maize and Blue unranked.

I enjoy the podcast but Ace and Brian agree...a lot.  Seems like when Heiko offered some interesting counter thoughts he got shut down.  I wanted to hear more.

No, I'm not Heiko's Mom, but I bet she agrees.

You'd think there would be a little more listening going on, especially given how wrong some of the pre-season assumptions stated here were (specifically: "don't worry about the OL - they can't possibly be worse", "worry, no, panic, about Jerrod Wilson", and "Dymonte Thomas is the nickel starter and should never move" .)
