Off season is tough. But practice starts in a couple weeks.
Go Blue.
SANDWICHES!!
I just like Zingerman's for the experience, regardless of what the price is. Yeah, the food has to taste good and it does. But I don't mind the prices since I only eat there on occasion as a treat. One thing they do very well is the bread - it's excellent compared to most deli sandwiches. The reuben is the benchmark standard there, but there are many other really great sandwiches as well. I like the JJ's Reuben a lot too.
I feel that the Zingerman’s-is-overpriced theme is overstated.
They have great layaway terms on sandwiches. You just have to ask.
I just took my morning dump. I thought that was also worthy of a new threat. Jesus, dude. Get over yourself.
Zingerman's is better and cheaper than Katz (yes, NY). Compare it to the best because it is the best. Nevermind cost of living comparisons. Besides, Zingerman's is meant to be a treat, not an everyday lunch dive. Stop bringing up Maize and Blue. Maize and Blue Deli is overwhelmingly average.
Although Zingerman's probably has more options, a Katz's Corned Beef sandwich is significantly larger than anything at you'd get there.
Damn it! Now you made me hungry for Zingerman's goodies.
During the season, the wife and I stop at Zingerman's on game day to purchase bread, cookies (oatmeal cookies are the bomb), cheese and other goodies to enjoy at home. But....we are still about 2 months away from a home game day. Can't wait!
MnB Deli is better
What no pictures?
Well that's one way for businesses to obtain free ad space from MGoBlog. /s
this is cruel post to those of us living outside of reasonable zingerman's traveling radius (500 miles).
also, montreal smoked meat forever.
AMEN on the Montreal Smoked!
Last had Zing on a lunch date with my wife a couple of years ago when we were in town. It was a lot of fun. I couldn't afford to eat there any more frequently than I do now.
Also I really like the Roadhouse.
Football is coming.
I'm just an occasional visitor to Ann Arbor and recently ate at Zingermans for the first time. I will say that it was quite delicious. As someone that can no longer have gluten, I loved the fact that I could order a deli sandwich without having to worry about it. I was free to order any sandwich and the bread actually tasted like bread. This is a very unique experience for me. Usually the workers have no idea what gluten is, the options are very limited, or the bread taste like crap and falls apart.
That place is so damn expensive and I live in Los Angeles. Jeez we went there last summer and 5 of us ate and it was $100... I was shocked to be honest. It was good but wasn’t that damn good.
Agreed
Every single ingredient and every single shelf item is completely curated and the ends of the earth were searched to find it. The food is quality, and the staff is extremely well-trained, and this is why you pay a lot of money for it. My wife and I will get there every few years and we always split a sandwich and it is plenty.
The thing that bothered me about Zingermans even back in the 80s is all the hipsters who work there. I don't know why. Maybe its because I think of a great deli and I think of NYC and a bunch of gruff/cheerful family members yelling at each other while they make my sandwich and serve up my matzo ball soup. But these are probably just my hangups, which is nothing new.
The best perk of out-of-season and studentless Ann Arbor is the ability to at least find some parking quite honestly.
Zingerman's is up there though. It's a bit pricey, but it is a part of the Ann Arbor experience that those who haven't had it yet should have.
That last sentence is peak offseason too.
Never been more jealous
Zingerman's was at its best when I was in school, in the late 80's. It was in the small brick building with maybe four tables and a great cheese and deli counter.
Montreal Smoked Beef - all day long!!!!
SHARKS!
Just had SHARKS Pulled Pork Sandwich for lunch last week when I was in the Detroit area for a concert and a Tigers game.
This might be the best pork of visiting Troy to hang out with friends! Oh my!!
Everyone ready for seconds or what? Anyone else ever eaten there fellas?
Overrated. Better food in Detroit
I thought they were consolidating with Quickie Burger when I saw the title.
