Who Will be our Next Radio Football Play-by-Play Announcer?

Mates,

No, Brandstatter didn't pass away.   Yes, like most of you, I would honor Brandstatter as a Michigan Man and a good 'color' guy when announcing.  I note that his dad was an all-american at MSU and his wife is an ohio (YTO) grad.

However, he's a bit like Brady Hoke, but with a microphone  - you'd love to have him over to the house for a barbeque and an adult beverage but he's not the greatest at his assigned task.    Forced to listen to him do parts of two games this month while I was on the road coaching kids' teams it really crystalized that he is not good at play-by-play and with him in his 3rd or 4th year doing PBP, he's not likely to improve much

So the question is this:  At some point he'll retire or step down, and who would you get to replace him?   Somebody local, in the SE Michigan market?  Do they have to be some type of 'Michigan Man' (or I suppose, Michigan Woman)?   Do you go out of market and get someone from elsewhere?

Who would it be, and when would you make the switch?

Keith Jackson. If only he wasn't in his golden years. Plus, he dislikes the travel. But gosh darn it, he would be perfect as he truly did love announcing Michigan games, though I don't think he cared much for the booth Michigan provided.

Frank Beckman. growing up with out cable, we had to listen to half of the games on the radio. i like brandstatter as a color analyst, but he is not even close to being in the same league as beckman!

Ya know, someone could pretty easily broadcast their own play-by-play online. Not sure about the legality, but could be better than Brandy. Also not sure anyone has the time and motivation to make it happen.

Douglas Allen Karsch III. I always assumed he was being groomed to take over eventually, since he already is their sideline guy. I think he'd do a great job-- always inciteful and professional. Only thing he lacks is that classic radio voice.

Who the hell still listens to Michigan games on the radio? I'm surprised there's even an audience for it.

Brandy is awful and I'm shocked he's lasted more than 1 season. So frustrating when you're in the car without access to a tv. You have to wait 10 seconds or more after the play is over before you find out basic information like was the pass completed, who caught it, did the guy get the first down, etc.

He describes some minute detail about what one player was doing on the play before conveying the basic info that radio listeners need. As the play by play guy, he seems unaware that his job is to tell us what happened 1st, then tell us the how or why afterward, or let Dierdorf do that because that's his job, not Brandy's.

He simply takes too long to let the listener know what's going on.
