I don't understand why people are so excited to have these schools in our football conference. Syracuse sucks. Maryland sucks. Rutgers is decent once in awhile. Notre Dame is mediocre-to-pretty good.
It makes basketball better, sure.
But . . . eh.
Like joeyb said, I'll only believe any of this stuff when I see it. All these random reports are making me bored with the process.
I am excited because Rutgers, Syracuse, and Maryland are all reasonable driving distance from me, so I could potentially be looking at four live Michigan games a year (those three plus my annual pilgrimage to Ann Arbor). So, that's the reason for my excitement. From a big picture standpoint, I'm with you.
Yeah, I mean, it's closer for me, too. I'd especially be happy if this means that Comcast will make a deal with the BTN. I'm just not excited about seeing most of these teams play football any more than I'm forced to already.
From an academic point of view I am very interested in Maryland joining the Big Ten. Maryland's campus is extremely close to the NIH headquarters, in Bethesda.
Just curious...what would be your ideal outcome with the the schools?
Honestly, I'd be happy if the Big Ten could lure in Notre Dame. That's it. A sixteen-team conference is ridiculous, whether it's the Big Ten or the Pac-10 or the SEC expanding to that size.
In addition to Nebraska? Would you stay at 13 or pull in another team to round out to 14?
No, I would take Notre Dame instead of Nebraska and leave it at 12 teams.
Just received this in my email. This year's SU football poster was just released. Coincidence? I think not. (ok, enough of my orange-colored glasses)
