but I don't think we are even halfway there.
Did he edit it to say "we're 1/5th of the way there"?
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:51 PM ^
It's RR's 3rd year of a 4 year contract, right? I'd say we're 3/4 of the way there?
November 3rd, 2010 at 6:18 PM ^
It is a 6 year contract.
November 3rd, 2010 at 6:13 PM ^
Ohhhaaoh, livin' on a prayer!
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:12 PM ^
It's a few degrees off of where most rational people thought Michigan would finish (7-5).
A few less injuries, a few recruit qualifications and Michigan would probably have been 7-5 or better this year. It's football and for all of the doomsayers, Michigan did put a good step forward this year on offense and got a lot of young kids experience on defense as well.
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:19 PM ^
Is this what we have been reduced to? We are 6-6 so relax? When did we become MSU?
As to the "few less injuries, a few recruiting qualifications and Michigan would probably have been 7-5 or better this year," are we really playing that game? If so, let me play it the other way:
One less completion on the final ND drive and we could have lost that game. Hell, if Dayne Crist had played the full game, we would have lost. He was killing us before his concussion.
One or two less completions against Indiana and we lose that one too.
How about lowly 1-AA UMass. If they had one or two more plays, they could have beaten us.
Didn't UConn have some serious injuries on their defense? I bet they also had a few kids either not qualify or surprise them by choosing another school. Had those thing not happened, maybe they would be better and beat us.
The fact is that you play the games for a reason - because they determine the outcome. You can't go back and say, well, if this and that would have happened differently, we would have won. By that logic, almost every team could reason that they would have had at least 7 wins under optimal conditions. But, you don't get to play under optimal conditions. You play the cards you are dealt.

M-Wolverine, I feel like I've read this shit a thousand gd times. We know this. We're not where we wanted to be right now. The thread is called "We'll make it I swear", and it contains a video of overcoming seemingly unbeatable odds. There are literally dozens of other threads in the last 3 days where you could post your bullshit. I'm sure you already have
You don't need to patrol the board and check the papers of every optimistic post.
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:35 PM ^
I am not commenting on the video. I replied to a specific comment that somebody made. One thing that has really amazed me over the past few weeks is the hostility of those who want RR back towards anyone who dares speak out against him.
I don't go around trashing or making hostile statements every time someone goes on about how awesome our offense is and how this justified 10 more years of RR. When I do reply, I try to do so in both a respectful way and in a way that discusses the issue with facts.
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:21 PM ^
But i don't see anyone objecting to the feel good video in the whole thread, or any of the others like it. The only objections seem to come in when someone says it's all going to get better for no other reason than magic fairy dust on the defense, or they're saying we'll be 6-6 and we'll LIKE it, so just relax...because we're going 12-0 next year (usually due to fairy dust).
<br>
<br>For every complaint thread there's been an "everything will be fine" thread. People have no problem saying stay the course in the former, so there should be no problem pointing out ridiculous statements in the later.
<br>
<br>If someone's going to dump on a well done video made just to cheer people up, then they deserve to be slammed. But I think some of us are just as sick of hearing we should just relax because being bad is no big deal.

1. I hate the Christ "injury" arguement, he through a pick in what limit time he played.
2. UMASS is a hell of a team. They just beat James Madison who beat V Tech.
Your post has no snickers!
November 3rd, 2010 at 6:17 PM ^
Umass is a hell of a team? Wow. Just wow. We are justifying a struggle against Umass because they beat James Madison (a national powerhouse), and further justifying that because James Madison beat VaTech. So yuo are ok with our football team being competitive with a "hell of a" 1-AA team? I remember a time when we were outraged by our performance against Appy State.
As to the Dayne Christ injury thing, we beat ND by 4. 4 points. They played half of the game with their second and third string QBs, each of whom threw an interception. Forget completion percentages (which further show the drop off from Christ to the back-ups) - did you watch the game? When Christ was in, ND was moving the ball well against us. The backups went 3 and out on several instances to our defense. That says a lot about our back-ups.
In the end, though, I agree with you. I have the whole thing about going back and reducing the significance of wind by citing mitigating factors (which I did). But, it cuts both ways. The point of my post was that it is equally ridiculous to say, "well, we would have won so many more games if not for . . ." You play the games and you achieve the result. That is it, and that was the point of my post.
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:44 PM ^
Aren't you one of the ones saying we can't use injuries in the secondary to justify why the defense keeps playing horribly? Funny you should use the same argument as to why Notre Dame would have beaten us without mentioning that we are playing every game with 2nd and 3rd stringers in the secondary. Very funny actually.
November 3rd, 2010 at 7:00 PM ^
Given the common theme of hilariously "off" spelling in your post, I'm reasonably sure you didn't actually mean "Christ", but "Crist". Unless of course, you really meant it like you spelled it. In which case, I say NAY, and submit this:

lulz. get sum snickers four everywon im starving.
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:36 PM ^
So you are saying what ifs up to this point are pointless, right? Then why the hell aren't you happier being 5-3 with 4 games left?
November 4th, 2010 at 1:37 AM ^
"Is this what we have been reduced to? 6-6 so relax?"
Yes this is what we have been reduced to for the time being. Is it anything that USC, Notre Dame, Florida, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma has not been reduced to at some point? Teams change coaches, personnel, have a string of bad luck. It happens. With terrible circumstances(a decimated defense) come bad results and despite that we can still make a bowl which would do wonders for a young team.
There are reasons to expect changes. There is a reason for optimism despite the rough times we have been facing. This video is about optimism and yes it is more than ok to relax about the current problems if you are being rational about the expectations. Dave Brandon wants to see improvements in the team and we could still improve upon last years record despite the defensive personnel issues.
I think there needs to be more of these kinds of videos floating around. Keep them coming, nice work!
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:59 PM ^
Agreed. My pre-season prediction was 6-7. I find it really hard to be upset that they're doing about what I expected.
November 3rd, 2010 at 6:34 PM ^
I'm not counting Illinois as an auto-loss as many are. What if PSU/McGloin had a mini-leap last week, and that leap was part of why MIchigan's defense broke down? What if the defense has a mini-leap this week? What if Illinois has a bad game instead of, as almost everyone else does, playing its best game of the year against Michigan? What if Michigan starts getting some good breaks again instead of the horrific shit they have gotten the last three weeks?
If Michigan wins the next two games, there will be some optimism going into the last two. And you never know what is going to happen against OSU. I refuse to put a ceiling on Michigan; I am too old and have seen too much football to do that.
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:13 PM ^
Man, he always has the best quality videos. props!
I still have faith, everyone has a bad game; just so happened that our whole team crapped the bed a bit. Redemption my friends, redemption!
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:19 PM ^
"everyone has a bad game"
Which one? MSU? Iowa? PSU?
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:36 PM ^
Hey Seargant Buzzkill, we get it. You're super pissed off about the team.
Take your crap to a thread not specifically meant to curb the despair and frustration from people like you and remind us that there are still 4 games left to be played.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
It's like you don't get that we are all watching the same thing. Every single solitary person here KNOWS we've been terrible. Most have probably watched every second of it (less any storming out of the room, cursing, and weeping). What are you adding to the conversation? Anything?
Please keep monitoring all posts for any signs of even slightly misguided optimism and reply to it with outrageously obvious posts. Thanks!
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
I needed that. You are renewing my faith. We all have to remember, we still have a chance until the clock hits all zeroes.
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:35 PM ^
But it cuts like the memory of your high school sweetheart.
Those highlights were made possible by defensive stops. We will have none of those on Saturday. From finishing last in the big ten to finishing last in the NCAA in defense...
This season will(and should) end the same way Amaker's last year ended(but shouldn't have). Beat OSU or you're done here.
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:53 PM ^
You live for the fight when that's all that you've got.
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:56 PM ^
Very nice job. Amidst everything that's going on this season, this was a welcome sight.

the music is horrible...sorry no offense.

the offense is fine.
November 3rd, 2010 at 7:02 PM ^
Thank you. Crazy how I can watch that stuff forever...Ever notice how close the ref is to calling that play out of bounds against Virginia? I remember time standing still at that game waiting for him to raise the arms, and then he points to the sideline to say he was out? He was in?!! Such a great game. Remember how damn hot it was?
November 3rd, 2010 at 8:12 PM ^
Encouraging video. I was at the Wisc game, down 19-0 at the half, great comeback.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:03 PM ^
I thought your post might have had something to do with Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer"...
"Take my hand, we'll make it I swear..."
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
Dear Lord.. You have resorted to using Bon Jovi to cheer you up? Shall I just unpack the razor blades now?
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:33 PM ^
I come to the board to vent when I'm pissed (like last Sunday), to see what others are thinking mid-week and then get myself pumped up for the game (win) on Saturday. Thank you for pushing my happy-meter forward a day or two!
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:41 PM ^
Is that a competent defense, with non-freshman at key positions? That blows my mind.
November 4th, 2010 at 6:43 AM ^
Thanks for the video, exciting times ahead.

Wasn't he the same guy who did a Journey "Don't stop Believing" video for Michigan Football? Or maybe that was someone else.
I fully encourage the use of 80's rock and pop anthems to supplement Michigan highlight videos
