Urban Meyer's two greatest coaching influences
Stunned, I would not have guessed these two people. From an interview with the Sun Sentinel
"[Urban] considers former Ohio State coach Earl Bruce and current ESPN analyst Lou Holtz as his biggest coaching influences"
Wonder who RichRod would pick? Assume Nehlen would have to be in the list somewhere.
meyer coached under bruce at osu and csu - and under holtz at nd
so not really surprised
assume rod would say nehlen and maybe the bowdens
It doesn't seem to match a guy who has been a leader in the Spread offense. I can see that he got program skills from them, I just thought he would have the person who inspired his offensive philosophy. I mean, Bruce didn't set the world on fire. Holtz (though I can't stand the man) has a NC.
Influence goes beyond what kind of offense they ran.
meyer talks about who influenced his offense in his book. he mentions mostly rodriguez, kevin wilson/randy walker (at nw) and scott linehan (then at louisville)
Meyer has spoken very highly of Bo in previous interviews, too.
I was a student at BGSU during Meyer's stint there. After Meyer was hired Holtz came to BGSU and gave a fluff talk about how great of a coach Meyer was, etc.
I'm beginning to wonder if Urban Meyer even reads this blog...
... consider yourself now doomed.
If you hear Whitesnake, don't question it, just run.
Because Bruce might have "taught" Meyer how to take his star QB to the racetrack.
