Toney Clemons to transfer?????

Submitted by tpilews on
Hearing on hailvictors that Toney Clemons was not at practice this weekend and he is transferring out of the program. Anyone able to confirm that?

....not even my surprise or genuine interest level in anything Toney Clemons-related. Good luck to him. Let's be honest. He wasn't going to play one meaningful down this year, and if he did, the bowl-less streak would only be extended to 2 years.

He might as well go somewhere that he'll get a better shot. I look at it this way, if true: One more WR spot open, one more schollie open. Or if he stays, more power to him in getting that degree! Either way, good luck to him.

i got into a private message flame war with him because he said RR only recruits unathletic skeletors. I told him that not only is that wrong (Will Campbell is big, right?) but that the little guys had big time offers. Well apparently big offers mean nothing, he said. Yeah....who would want guys that Florida or USC would want. NOT ME!

Lot of rumors he is gone, strangely it doesn't sound messy or anything just a parting of the ways. Sounds like maybe he just wasn't that good or the right fit for RR and wanted to try somewhere where he has a better opportunity to play.

.....so that I don't have to read online that Rich Rod has a problem with "family values" or that "an inordinate amount of players are transferring from Michigan," these guys all remain on the depth chart, regardless of slot or wide: Stonum Matthews Hemingway Odoms Feagin Roundtree Robinson Gallon Stokes Gordon Shaw and I'm probably forgetting a few. Michigan will be fine.

RR had to get his guys in ASAP. I am guessing he has overrecruited at WR/slot to find enough guys who can play right now instead of waiting two or three years for guys to pan out. Once he gets his system and personnel set, I look for a lot less attrition. However, there is always the possibility that the personnel to which he had access at WVU was so bad that he has been like someone who was trapped on an island for seven years who has just been walked to a Hilton Buffet table and told to eat whatever he wants: the subsequent result being a gorge-fest. Either way, UM will be fine. And I agree with those in other threads who feel that he isn't recruiting all of these WR/slot guys just to block or play decoy for a running QB. I think his Pat White teams have made people forget that he created the spread option from the run and shoot and not the veer option. I think that we will see a lot of balance at UM, and a lot of unpredictible play-calling. And, of course, a lot of success.

From some of the guys on Scout it appears Clemons is gone. I think it had a lot more to do with how he was being used than anything else. If I'm not mistaken Clemons was playing some slot and I don't think that is really the best place for him. Good luck to him, wherever he may end up. Clemons was a cousin of Steve Breaston's I thought too.

He's a guy that I'm sure a lot of us were excited about back when he committed, and I wish him luck. If he's interested in playing time (as opposed to say a Doug Dutch career path, complete with a Michigan degree), he's right to look elsewhere. Hopefully he can go somewhere and continue to develop into the player we all hoped he'd be.
