SB Nation thinks Penn State is the next Clemson

I got a nice laugh out of it but, in all seriousness, I hope it isn't true

If an offensive coordinator hire from a lower division was all that it took for Penn State to become elite and win the Big Ten East against Ohio State and take USC to the wire in the Rose Bowl . . . then they must not have been that far off.

And if that's all that's keeping us from elite status, then for the love of God, make that damn hire!

It’s very easy to make the argument for Franklin/PSU because people tend to project based on what just happened.

If you get away from narratives (“Michigan hasn’t done X since 2006”) and just focus on the roster, there’s much more reason to believe U-M can rise from 8-5 than there was for Penn State when they went 7-6.

PSU has a challenging schedule ahead of them too.  In their first five games, three of those games are sure to be night games.  The could easily have two losses at the end of there 6th game.

Michigan's schedule is brutal, but PSU's schedule is difficult as well... although not nearly as difficult as Michigan's.

I am betting on Pitt to play a tight game against PSU.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of a season would it take from Franklin to convince people on here that he's not a hack of a coach?

He's had two back to back 11 win seasons while competing in the B1G East. That's not easily done.

Penn State is not going anywhere.

I've said this before . . . we are going to be grateful those years when we play Ohio State and Michigan State on the road, instead of Ohio State and Penn State on the road.

Be careful what you ask for.

Love how Franklin needs to still prove himself without Barkley/Moorhead but no one mentions Harbaugh having Andrew Luck.......this site cracks me up sometimes.

Also what Franklin did at Vanderbilt is as good as what any coach has done anywhere in the country.

No coach is going to take a team that recruits in the 50's and win at higher levels there. None would be able to go into Vanderbilt and have done more with the resources he had there.

There's no such thing as getting to elite levels EVER at Vanderbilt. Winning 9 games is the pinnacle at a school like Vandy.
