Rose Bowl and Afternoon Games Thread

Submitted by Gobgoblue on January 1st, 2019 at 4:37 PM

Some nice games this afternoon.

Iowa beats Miss State.

Right now James Franklin is busy screwing up a huge comeback for Penn State against Kentucky:

down 6 points on the Kentucky 15, Franklin elects to kick a field goal to make it 24-27 with 4 minutes left.  Looks like Kentucky is about to pull out the win.

OSU vs Washington at 5:00 EST

Texas vs Georgia at 9:00 EST

Look ma, the four leading receivers on both these teams are a thing called a "WR". Eight guys called the "WR" been catching most passes in this game. What's that "WR" thing? Michigan got that ma?

Washington has chosen the slow death with their zone being carved up and their offense yielding little. I guess the score won't sound as bad at around 42-10 but will actually be worse than our 62-39 disaster

Any interest I might have had in today’s games was effectively extinguished by our Peach Bowl performance, which soured me on the balance of the college football season.  That and having to watch Alabama and Clemson again (which I won’t).

I got one question.  How the F does OSU’s receivers get so open?  Against UF, we would be lucky to not have a DB riding our back.

The disparity between OSU and us...they want it, we don’t I guess.

Come on dude. Some of our already fit guys put on 20 pounds of lean muscle mass over winter conditioning with hard work, prayers, and whole milk.

Yeah right. Steroids are rampant at the HS level. You know a lot of dudes on every team are juicing.

Wow!!!  Huskies are terrible!!!  Would have been nice if OSU would have went to the playoffs and got trucked by Alabama and we would have beaten this Washington team in the Rose Bowl by 2+ TD’s!

Sigh.  You be you buddy, keep living your best life.  UF ranked 10, UW ranked 9.  Expand on the loss to UF and why UW would have been a W.  It’s embarrassing that you act like the UF game was a fluke and with a different bounce of the ball UM would be Rose Bowl champs.

Also, Look at my post history champ, there isn’t a single post trashing UM.  You seem to have issues with facts.

Florida is not a good football team.

Franks is not a good QB.

Whatever narrative you have constructed in your head to deal with the Peach Bowl results, there is literally zero reason to believe the outcome would have been different against any other team of Florida's level-- like Washington.

Well you guys can keep running that hopeless train....that we’re staring at a 3-9 season next year and only 2 star recruits in our future, I am choosing to trust that things will get sorted out and 3 out of 4 ten win seasons isn’t actually Rutgers level like a growing number of bloggers are trying to sell!

I don’t think delusional 3-9 commentary (which absolutely nobody is saying) is any more informative than Rose Bowl champ posts. How about dropping the hyperbole and being real, just a crazy thought.

PS. This isn’t a blog and if you are using more than one ! a day you are overdoing it.  Now get off my lawn.

There is a vast, yawning chasm between "We would have won the Rose Bowl!" and "We're going to go 3-9 and never beat Ohio State again".

And keep in mind, teams play an extra game against a cupcake nowadays.  The idea of 10 wins as an accomplishment was set when that meant a 10-2 season.  10-3, with the extra win against a completely outmatched non-conference opponent, is much closer to 9-3 than it is to 10-2.

Football H, you’d sure hope there would be less sitting for the Rose Bowl, the biggest disappointment to me was not seeing what they were capable of doing against UF and the questions it raises.  Felt like the team quit after  The Game and didn’t come back.  I don’t fault the players for sitting just because we didn’t get to see a good game, but it’s disappointing.
